cypher got offered a spot straight up by reunited, but there are contractual issues with anox, so he has to be bought out or wait for the contract to end
there was hardly any synergy in the team which lead cypher having more of a "cleanup" role instead of a core dps. kensi was always the one making opening plays and dealing more damage.
cooller...is uh..cooller, he minds his own business and doesn't really take much initiative, or he just expects everybody to follow his random lead, pick up on his ideal vision and execute flawlessly every time, without a set-play. that's why he was put on a leash and played lucio.
frankly their 1v1 mentality/style really shines thru in this game which obviously doesn't work to their benefit. and this aint tdm where you lock down items and pile through the enemy team with a fullstack of guns and armor afterwards.
cypher is an ok pharah/genji and uh reaper LUL. that's it. his hitscan is not really that impressive, which is a shame because it is the class that makes opening kills most of the time while genji mainly relies on his ult which is easily countered in the current meta.
cooller is kek. he thinks this game is all about focusing the weakest target and move on from there. disregards everybody else in the opponent team while he's at it. and his attitude doesn't do him any favor either. he even had the audacity to call out his teamates on stream (cypher included), everytime they would lose important matches.
cypher has a future, but he really needs to finetune his movement, hitscan and play of his team's decisions better.
cooller is like 5 steps behind cypher in all of those aspects on top of a short temper.
the silver lining however is that they decided to stick with rubikon who is mechanically by far the worst player in the team XD. quite debatable tbh as to who should have been booted next with cypher. cooller's own fault for hardly communicating in the team though.
you seem to over-criticize cooller....I thought his game was on-point for most part.. One screwup that does come to my mind is in the anox vs rogue game in atlanta he held off a sound barrier unnecessarily when using it could have ensured anox a victory, which was kinda bad.
Also, in overwatch its hard to judge individual skill just like that, some people click together, some dont. No way of playing is inherently bad as long as the plan clicks against the opponent, and metas fall out of favor every week as opposed to quake where meta does not change in years.
i'm not over-critisizing shit. this game is a joke to e-sports and everybody is aware of that - especially anox and rogue, but it's still a team game with good money involved - which is why a personality such as cooller does not belong to it. he was booted because of his trashy, impatient and antisocial attitude towards himself and others, not because of a poorly timed soundbarrier.
as much as i love these guys, they are duelers to the bone with next to 0 team environment experience compared to the average ex-tf2 player who makes up 80% of the pro ow playerbase.
for what it's worth, cypher wasn't much of a hotshot in quake tdm either.
cooller had his fair share of tdm/2v2 experience, but he's not much of a likeable guy once shit hits the fan. and it's pretty funny of you to say that some people don't click together, considering that these two guys hardly got along with eachother in and outside of quake, particularly because of cooller's ego. i mean no wonder he's been a crappier chuck norris meme deity among the quake community with his obtuse tarzan english quotes.
i'm more than certain that cypher just felt sorry for cooller being left stranded once he got offered a spot in anox (after their previous team fell apart) so he just dragged him by his pinky to fill the shoes of the least mechanically demanding character in the game - an african american with a music fetish and burrito tentacles for hair.
calm down [USA] cl0ck, cooller doesnt have the toxic personality that you pretend he has. Yes, hes not very patient and he can be unlikable, but transferring your personal butthurt to this is pathetic.
Anyway, Im pretty sure you will deny that its you, cl0ck, but didnt you get booted out from raphas team too? =)
cl0ck? please, my 2 year old cousin can dish out better insults than that. as far as i'm concerned he's just another has-been who tried to use his quake "claim to fame" and latch himself onto the big leagues with a similarly bad quake stack of players. it just so happened that he was the worst out of the bunch.
if anybody's butthurt it's this fossilized community filled with nostalgic and bigoted grumpy old men having a go at each other and where everybody thinks that quake and its players are the holy grail of competitive gaming or something. a profile which you perfectly fit, judging by your post history. what a travesty.
but yeah guy, i was only pretending all along about cooller being toxic, because i hate his guts. you totally got me by the balls there.
This is actually pretty spot on. I like it when germans goes to nationality judgements. Didnt you guys learn how the world still think you are retards and wierdos?
"Well, since I used to play with half of the ANOX team in TF2, I was already an option for them since I put a lot of time into Overwatch and play ranked with them a lot."
Apparently they replaced with someone they were friends with from before.
They placed 5-6th in the online Qualifier to DreamHack. We'll see if this change really makes a better team or not soon enough.
@the duel part: random practice games at 3 o'clock in the night dont count, unlike tournament results, of which you shied away from iirc, speaking of zotacs, faceits and whatever else happened
Yes, I was talking about tournaments. In praccs I've beaten more of course. I used to play quite a bit of tourneys up until like 2013-2014 (more zotacs, less faceits) or something before I realized that I'm too impatient for duel.
Meh, I watched OW streams for a while and Cypher/ cooler put in their time practicing and are each very skilled IMO. I think the problem was with the entire team.
Cypher said in his interview that they couldn't practice before the tourney so I wonder what went on there.
Cooller was obviously pissed off about something. Cooller seems like he gets pissed at stupidity.
Hopefully both of them can transfer to another team, if OW doesn't die in the meantime.
Seriously who gets rid of Cooller and Cypher, lol. They probably were dissatisfied with the team and that's why the team dropped them. We will see what happens. Would be interesting if they were picked up together on another team and meet ANOX in an upcoming tourney.
I have no real incentive to play quake right now. No big lan to look forward to (and if we're talking qcon well I'm not prepared to spend so much money again with no real ROI). God I miss dreamhack, cheap enough to afford and always a good lot of fun and games. And afterparties.
The main thing I like about OW is it has generated some interest in Asia and it's somewhat of an FPS. So maybe if QC is any good, some asian players will show up to the tourneys and I'd like to see that because it'll make the tourneys larger more of a world event.
even winz and akm said OW is shit and they play it only for the money, and when the hype will go down and there won't be a lot of money to win they will stop playing it...
I thought TF2 and Quake guys would rule in OW, due to both games requiring high levels of combat skill, but sadly this does not seem to be the case. It seems like they're floundering, really.
Must be all the retarded abilities.
Admittedly I stopped following after I was flashbanged for the last time DX
It's just that duelers can't play team based games well. Quake itself is not the problem, but that a portion of the playerbase lacks the correct attitude and comprehensive skills needed to perform with and against teams.
That can't be learned in six months, especially when by now they have bad habits.
And of course the team has its fair share of fault. I mean, what kind of idiot puts the most egocentric fuck out there (cooller) as the support.
you are not fair, cooller might have his head up his ass but using your same argument i'd say it's quite surprising to see them performing in pro teams and going to major events considering their background. It means they did put the time into the game and more importantly they aren't scared of losing, they go for it no matter the consequences (on the other hand i don't think they care about some guys at esr are saying that they suck).
They switched to another game with the goal of becoming pro gamers again and they succeed, being at the very top is a whole different story... they are ahead of many teams with people who come purely from team based games so I don't know, kinda backfire argument too.
if everything you said in your post was true they would be doing way worse and they wouldn't be placing top500
They do like they do (well but not top tier) because they are professionals at it. This is cooller's only job and he isn't studying. Cooller has at least 10 times more playing time than anyone on this site, so no wonder why he is good.
But, at the same time cooller is most likely the worst OW pro (exclusive dedication) in the world. There aren't many people in his priviledged position, yet he is on the bench of a top16 team. Even the world champions (Rogue and Misfits) aren't "pro".
Though at the end of the day going pro at something unprofitable (for him not for the better guys) will not end up well for him and his family. It really was a lousy financial decision to go pro and not be top8 material.
Both Cypher and Cooller are back on stream on Twitch. I don't have time to watch but I heard Cypher say at the beggining of his oct 11th stream he is only focusing on OW because 'he has something to prove'. Said he's not playing for ANOX anymore.
Anyone have any more info? Sucks that we probably won't see them for dreamhack.
Ty for thus info. Puts some things into perspective.
I was going to type i wonder why cypher didnt use that attitude to persevere against evil eventually... Then i rememberd their duels on lan looked good for cypher :)
NP, I should clarify, someone in chat asked him if he's going to compete in QC and he said something like he is focusing only on OW for now because he feels like he has to prove something in OW. The way I worded it sounded like he was only playing OW because he had something to prove, which may be true but could be inaccurate.
hello im cooller, i am from ANOX
if i play good @ quake means i everywhere rox
fps or rpg, mmo or SNES emulator
i play good any game, like in ur sis vagin vibrator
i hit all headshots and i grab all 1337 loot
i defend own base without base.cfg in my config boot
and i do all that stuff while sniffing coco from big-titted whore
my very beatiful torso and face cant beat even marilyn monroe
all times direct rockets, all times crazy rails
and i am causing lots women juice from esr lads
and even if some day anox will kick my pretty ass
i just grab donats from stream fans with sneaky smiley face
Afaik it's not how it happened. Kyrw got kicked out for various reasons (behavior issues being apparently the major one) but also because Misfits wanted to move Zebbosai from Lucio to flex instead of Kyrw and Kyrw didn't want to go from flex/zarya to support. Which is understandable considering that he's apparently pretty good at zarya.
I'm guessing that Kyrw was troublesome with his behavior and the fact that he did not accept the change gave a reason for his teamates and manager to kick him out.
Which is why Zebbosai is now flex and they called Cooller to take the lucio spot.
Currently misfits is tied in the grand finals of Dreamhack Winter 2016, if they manage to take it I don't see cooller going anywhere. The cooller/zlive memes are alive and well in the twitch chat, too.
Yeah but they stuck him on Lucio. I don't know if he's happy playing Lucio but I'd love to see him play a character that actually gets camera time :(. Cooller, when really in shape was one of my favorite quake players to watch. In OW, he's in shape but we don't get to see his pov.
Liquid Cypher, Whaz and maybe Stermy or someone. All Quake team. I heard there was some all Quake teams in the beginning and it didn't quite work but now maybe it would since the game has been out for a while.
It's nice, but this tournament was missing a few top notch teams, because of Korean APEX tournament. I mean Rogue, EnvyUs, REUNITED, NRG + a few Asian teams.
However it's good to see Cooller happy on stage when they won.
Yes, but the tourney win was still nice. NIP and Fnatic are two teams capable of winning against anyone. Misfits did beat NV the last time they played and Rogue is not looking too strong right now with the new meta so... Still a nice $30k take down for Misfits and Cooller.
It was a bit sad (for me) to see him wasting his talent on OW and playing that utterly stupid game, but he played phenomenal, and he was the backbone of the team many times.
Let this post be a placeholder where all the people can reply to who were posting "smart" "insider" statements about teamwork and who were bashing Cooller and Quake duelers about their lack of team-play ability: Please feel free to say "sorry" and that kind of stuff, we can take it.
It's hard to say how well he fits his team. I didn't see any mistakes. He stayed alive most of the time and gave Sound Barrier in crucial moments. I guess he played well in that terms, but Lucio used to fill important role in team comp for other reasons.
His most valuable standard ability is passive and weapon is kinda crap if you look at damage stats and how hard this plasma projectiles are to hit anything apart from tanks or close range. Due to this character being mechanically least demanding most of Lucio players are team captains and shot callers. They have the widest image of what's going on live so they job is also to coordinate and instruct team on current actions and chances of winning a fight. Teams needs to know when to retreat and don't waste any more Ultimates if the fight is lost no matter what you do. It's impossible to do this if you're DPS player trying to maximize given damage. You're just focused on other things the most.
That's why it's hard to rate Lucio players if you are not a member of the team.
He probably doesn't fit well in any team in a way a top tf2 or a cs player would, but he still played phenomenal, he made the team much stronger, and I'm not really sure if the casters or most of the audience even realized that.
"Cypher and Cooller have transferred to the reserve, and in their place come two talented and ambitious players:"
"and in their place come two talented and ambitious players"
That feel when you play Quake for 15 years and some randoms who have never played FPS in their lives replace you and are considered "talented" because they can press their Ultimates at the right time.
