I am wondering where you can buy real WMOs. I have been thinking about buying one from ebay and didn't know who to buy from. Which reseller on ebay sells real WMOs?

Well, the only thing about mine is that it did break very quickly (lasted 3-4 months). But performance wise, yes, real WMO. And you won't get it this cheap anywhere else. Also, they ship for free.

Check number 6. But I think it's actually the other way around. Anyway, the one I got was from 2010 according to the 4-digit number. As the infographic says, if it's not some super old WMO, then it has the new sensor.

It's a cheap, lightweight, reliable no-bullshit mouse.
For years its sensor was unmatched, only recently did manufacturers start producing same/better predictionless/jitterless mice without gimmicks for a fair price.

It's like an old Honda, despite looking flimsy, it should last for years - obviously not every one of them has the same longevity.

The shape appeals to a lot of people, to this day people still make wmo mods because they enjoy the shell so much.

It also helps that the wmo was a standard office mouse all around the world and people used it/got used to it.

You can clearly see on the last picture that the P/N is 1215 which should mean that the mouse was manufactured in 2015. So his mice are probably fake?

As with my mouse, the year came first. I think the old version had the year go second. So that should mean 2012. Now, I don't know when did they stop the production of WMOs. I would think it was earlier than 2012, but honestly I have no idea.

#6 is slightly wrong.

Order of year and week of production don't determine Agilent or ST design.

This was actually changed around 07~ ish regardless of actual sensor model.

Mostly anything after 2002~ Should be an ST design.

Imagine my surprise when I bought one from a local mom and pops electronic store. It was off-white tainted color with a lot of dirt on it but I didn't care since it was only $1.99. Plugged it in and started skipping like hell and opened it up to find the brown chip board + shitty sensor inside. This was indeed a first generation WMO.

that doesnt seem like an issue, also the ipod have white USB port plastic too. I apreciate your effort ty man, but this doesnt prove that they are fake. i ordered back in the days some 50euros WMO and some cheap from china, internals was _exactly_ the same, external too. They are just sold without the box (OEM) and they are true WMO. Even some big shopes were selling the exact same OEM wmos 2 years ago.

And iirc some chiness shop even sell wmo with microsoft box. If you have any good link feel free to post.

X04 used older avago sensors

X08 series are fine, made in ~2003-2005 and are usually credited as best, most reliable series.

I was one of the first to sell IO1.1's. Many sellers have copied my description which amuses me. Most sellers of IO1.1's on eBay sell refurbished mice, shell's are usually resprayed. There aren't that many official mods of IE / IO mice, and most of the newer MODs are older PCB's resprayed as well. They aren't "fake" per se, but you have to be aware that the PCB's maybe slightly older. The IE3 has been out of production for a number of years now and the IO1.1 somewhat earlier. Completely original IE3's with original packaging can still be found, but completely original IO1.1 with original packaging are much much more rare. Legit original packaging sellers can usually only be found from smaller sellers who happen to have some left from before stockpiled many years. Those gem's are harder to find, like the older original releases, and the X800 Special Edition Japanese / US releases in 2005/06.

mine has no higher LOD than the Zowie mice still using a red-LED.
on my qck heavy it tracks only a bit higher than 1 CD(same goes for the mentioned zowie mouse, while the new ones with IR-LED only barely track at that height).

thanks for an answer. I got WMO X08-99491 and QcK+, for now stock mouse feet (waiting for hyperglides). LoD is about 3 CDs or even more. But will check again is that correct. Everything else seems to be ok. Great precision etc.

I bought a IMO 1.1 from takasta, and it's pretty much garbage compared to the (real) one I had before it. :(
The sensor is fine, but all the buttons and even the shell material feel terrible. Definitely not omrons in there, but something that has no feedback whatsoever. Same thing with the sidebuttons, feel like they're broken.
I mean maybe I was just unlucky and got a bad one, who knows. Seems like other people are happy with his stuff

So, I'm in the market for IMO/WMO right now. But most people just call these "microsoft mouse" and do not take pictures of the bottom. How exactly do I make out whether it's one of the newer worthwhile models? What does the bottom of a 1.1 look like? Or what should I ask the sellers in order to confirm it's a 1.1 and not something older?

Give links to the mouse you're interested in.

I can give you some pointers but generally speaking:

Most WMO/IMO with 100% faulty sensors (1.0 version) went out of production in ~2002, getting one from that period is extremely hard.
there is still a chance of receiving a faulty sensor even with the newest, most appraised model numbers - it happens with logitech mouse, with razor mouse, well for any product.
Don't buy if it has anything else than a MS logo.

I composed an album of some of the ones I am looking at. Hard to make anything out on some of them. These are from private sellers, that most likely had these laying around for ages. So no fakes I suppose. It's just that I want to make sure somehow they are using the new sensor. What should I ask the sellers, since the bottom doesn't specify "1.1", does it? Just ask for the PIN X08?

The most "recommended" P/N is X08, X09 have different omron switches apparently but sensor wise they are still good.

The one of the 8th image is definitely new because it has the slightly transparent bottom shell.

You can ask the seller if they can post an image of the back side, or opt for a brand new wmo that hasn't been used before, I don't think the price can be very different.

Thanks. I've got some mice coming in now. The varying labeling is somewhat confusing, but I'm pretty sure all are MLT04, just not entirely sure whether they are 6k or 9kfps variants though, except for the 3.0, which specifically states that on the packaging.

Those are some steep prices for a 10 dollar mouse :)

You'd notice the 1.0 sensor right away because it was horrible. Not just pretentious forum knowledge horrible, but absolutely horrible.

The problem are new sensors with shady PCBs, some come without omron D2FC switches etc

Well, it's intellimouse optical 1.1a and the 3.0, which as far as i know were always more expensive than the wmo. I just thought I'd throw the links out there since I'm sure some people prefer the sidebuttons on the imo or the shape of the 3.0, and it can be pretty difficult to find a reliable seller at this point in time.

The switches seem fine to me, but I wouldn't know how to check for sure.

Can it be those omron switches make buttons get pressed when moving the mouse vigorously? Had this problem on my first and only wmo, also button2 died some months after. Leaved me with a sour taste and didnt botter to buy one again...

May want to check your local library, the one in my town has black WMO's (1.1a version) on every public computer... there must be 30 total in there.

They are 3rd party MODs with some after-market treatment.

The "matte" itself is akin to perhaps like a Zowie AM, or the Rival, although the texture quality and overall finish is not as well rounded. Like other Matte surfaces, the surface is smooth and not as grippy.

Original WMO's use a standard slightly tacky plastic but doesn't "stick" to your skin like "glossy" surfaces do.

I personally prefer the glossy mods over the matte mods."

So I got what's meant to be a refurb WMO today as a spare and the MFR is 0947. So that's 2009, week 47 right? Is it possible for this to be legit? P/N is X802382.

After comparing it with my other mouse which I've had for ages (MFR 0350) I can't really tell them apart. It reports as 'Microsoft USB Wheel Mouse Optical' under Windows so can I assume it's all good?

I was specifically looking for the 1.1a, seller seems legit but who knows, they might be fake. Will keep you guys posted.

Update: seems like a counterfeit product. The color is grayer than former WMO. On the back the reference states "Wheel Mouse Optical USB" instead of Wheel Mouse Optical 1.1A USB". The Microsoft "Genuine" stickers on top of the sensor also seems fake.

I had wmo from ebay (china), and it wasn't same quality as original wmo. Sensor was the same, but shell, and buttons, felt much worse. You can see the difference, looking at finish of mouse wheel "hole". Edges are sharp and poorly finished, while in original wmo, they are smooth, like everything else.

The MAXDATA models are X08 from 2004, i. e. original internals. The housing is completely dark grey.
The standard models are X80 from 2006, i. e. slightly updated internals and 9000fps.

All of them are as good as new, so just hit me up if you want any.

Hey. I just found out that I own an Intellimouse Optical Usb ( it doesnt say 1.1 or 1.1A but i have the model with the 2 side buttons) and the PN number starts with X800 and the 4 digits are 0706.
Can you tell me if it has the good sensor in it? Thanks
