Seeing that just 17 players who remain interested in Quake already broke the Bethesda website, are we in for some Queue Champions?

The graphic looks outdated, and the animations wooden.

What disappoints me the most is that they didn't have the balls or the creativity to generate a new weapons roaster, they just copy pasted q3's like they did with q4.

It's not that there isn't a better weapon pool; they just can't be arsed.

The only practical information that is possibly available to us is: "what is the probability of such kind of modification to be applied in beta stage?", to appoximate which we take a representative sample of betas from prevous game development history and count the proportion of them where such modification actually happened.

But I do have a really pretty good idea of how easy it is...

I hope that worked! There must be a lot of heavy traffic going on. I kept getting "bad gateway" page with a picture of the Bethesda host not responding. When I finally got onto the beta sign up page and input my email I got the "bad gateway" page again, so I hit refresh and it said that I was signed up, but it was a bit of a touch and go process.

Is there a way to see, or confirm, that I'm successfully signed up? Just to make sure that all the info got transferred properly?

I read on their Twitter page that there would be NO email confirmation - just a successful sign up notification on screen - because I wondered as well.

While I'm excited by the idea of big Quake LAN's again with (hopefully) all the old pro's showing up - there's just way too much randomness about these trailers for me.

I'm totally uninspired by this new one.. they've stuck with that awful, AWFUL Railgun design (where is the rail-trail??) and the character animations look clunky - it doesn't appear smooth and fast at all and with the 'shards' or whatever? dropping on frags - it's all rather alien and visually a bit of a clutter.

If this is the future of team-play - so be it..
but I hope Quake Live is left as the duel mode - I would have much preferred QL had just had a graphical overhaul - new front end etc and used that ruleset and gameplay.

Here's hoping Quake Champions gets the polish it requires through the beta.

I don't mind change, actually I'd love to see some solid changes. For the past decade or so I've been hoping id would come up with the next "strafe jumping". Some new feature or gameplay mechanic that's going to change how the game is played. While adding something to the game and making it more challenging. Not taking things away and dumbing it down. Unfortunately they started down that road near the end of QL and now with QC, it's pretty clear what their goals are.

Crazy how many closet moba fans there are on esr though.

Not the same engine but, yep, for sure. Just look at Doom 2016 speedruns for confirmation. There's clipping through the environment by using glory kills and then there's rail boosting, which I'll let you figure out ("once you see it...").

All my hype and expection to have a good "Quake Arena II" start to slowly disappear... I would not guess that Railgun is the Railgun. Some model looks more like a plastic Lego figures. I don't want to be old whiny veteran, but - too many buts. I was gonna to buy a new PC just for this game, now I know I don't have to. I will try it, but it won't keep me for any time longer that it took me to finish Doom campain probably. For me It feel like another cashgrab from brand fans, nothing more. I still might throw money on extremely not worthy collector edition, nostalgia is strong on this one. I gonna regret it. We will play it for a max year, unless Bethesda understands how esport works these days, and actually spend some bucks making tournaments/leagues, inviting stars to play, otherwise, oh boy, it will only hurt to watch.

But that's exactly the problem. They know what's up today, and that's why they copy pasted Overwatch. They sure as hell aren't gonna make an old style arena shooter, they want dollarinos from nooberinos.

Players in the video playing are obviously not skilled, but going through weapon demonstration videos, i've seen some jumping and moving a bit better. Initial thought is that for any quake player who has decent movement skills it will feel like home (just a guess).

Heavy Machine gun, Nail gun or what not are too similar, only difference is rate of fire and dmg..... Pick one, ditch the other and bring back plasma gun or hyperblaster.
Enemies dropping shards? what's this HALO-DOOM nonsense, are we playing sypro the dragon adventure game or fast paces fps ? when killing an opponet you are supposed to go forward and not stop to collect some green bits...

The Ugly:

I think for team modes this is going to be great, as long as it's relatively balanced, your team picks should cover enough possibilities to be good at countering and offering a decent offence to the enemy.

For duels however it's going to be really difficult to find the right balance. Either you pick a hero that would be a good counter to Nyx for example, which means it might not necessarily be a hero you are comfortable with, or you pick a hero you are good with and play with a disadvantage as it's not a great counter to Nyx.

I think balancing is going to be the biggest obstacle for this game, if they get that right, seems the mechanics and stuff are decent.

The whole genre of multiplayer Arena shooters has been dead for at least 6 years. For the past 10 years every single Arena FPS has been a complete failure, outside QL and that one only to an extent.
