I did the same for years, if you have some spare room on the desk you should pick up an old, used CRT for a few dollars (or free) just to experience some smooth smooth ql action, I regret not doing it sooner

Well out of this list, looks like prozac needs a new monitor the most, dat input lag. Q50 also has that LG monitor btw, he can keep dahang and abso company on your list, they look a little lonely

I've got my BENQ for almost a year now, CRT is no more :).

That's an expensive downgrade :)

Nope

Only if the monitor is also better(like reaponse time, colors, etc). Otherwise if ur 120Hz monitor is good - no.

You have to experience it to see and feel the difference. Although, I have to say that 120Hz is acceptable, still much better than 60Hz. But 144Hz is just unmatched.

How does it compare to the Benq everyone is using?

It's simple; the thing barely got any marketing behind it. Most people doesn't even know that LG has 120 / 144Hz displays on the market. On the other hand, BenQ performed on QuakeCons, DreamHacks etc. - the best marketing there is.


LG has better colors (one of the best TN-colors out there), more connectivity options, including DisplayPort (!), better OSD.
Rest is more or less identical. LG also has factory pixel warranty for 72 hours.


No reason to choose the BenQ over the LG.

How about the other Benq?

There are too many Benq and im going insane trying to figure out the specs.

PS: How does DisplayPort compare to HDMI? For the 2233rz I was using the DVI cable, never bothered to get an HDMI cable.

PS2: Is there any reason why DAS and Moton 240 cannot be used at the same time? A review on the official site (http://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-24GM77-B-gaming-monitor) says that Motion 240 looks awesome, but the input lag kills the point of a competitive monitor.

I guess it's some technical issue that cannot be resolved? It's a shame.

But even with the settings you described, it is really better than the rest of TN monitors??

Well, basically ye, as far as your money is a concern and you want the best picture quality for your bucks.
XL2430T is nice, finally has DisplayPort, has basically everything you are looking for in a gayming display, but about $130 more expensive (!) than the LG while still has worse colors. So..

2730Z is in another category, being 27" and 1440p - and also in a higher price range.

HDMI is only 60Hz. I heard it's possible to get 120Hz in sub-1080p resolutions with HDMI 1.4a, but whatever. HDMI 2.0 is capable of 120Hz AFAIK, but the display HAVE TO have the ability to produce such a refresh rate via the standard. I don't even know if there are gayming displays out there with this feature.
Your best bet is to just forget it.

DVI(-D) is getting more and more obsolete, day-by-day. Limited resolutions and no audio signal. Some of the newer VGAs start to neglect it as well.

If you buy a new display nowadays, DisplayPort is a must.

Well, ye, if you enable Motion 240, DAS (which cuts input lag in half) gets disabled automatically. Think of Motion 240 as a form of LightBoost.

I see. But who cares about audio signal for a monitor tho? I got my own DAC, it's not like im going to plug headphones on a monitor to get worse audio quality than my DAC.

I am using it. Had the Benq XL2411Z for about 2 days and send it back. The colors of the Benq were awful compared to the LG.

Are they that shit? Markie said the XL2411Z was much better compared to the 2233rz, so im expecting a decent upgrade with the LG.

Did you try to configure the colors and whatnot? I've heard there are some downloadable profiles that improve the colors.

they were like outwashed @144hz - very flat and not enjoyable

and yes I tested some windows color profiles, but wasn´t satisfied

Benq is selling good 144hz monitor for 3-4 years now, its useless to switch from benq to this lg recent model.
All pros had 144hz monitors years ago, maybe they will pick new 240hz models if will be a good upgrade

We have people here that tried both and literally said BenQ is shit compared to the LG.

The LG 24GM77-B is not recent. It was released like 2 years ago.

The new one is this one:

Which is pretty much the same except with some improvements like added Freesync and better buttons.

I don't see any reason to not wait for 1 month and buy the 24GM79G-B once it's shipped to Europe and we get at least 1 review to confirm everything is ok.

Pros use whatever they are told to use usually, it really means nothing.

And good luck hitting 240fps+ in QC so i doubt they'll go 240hz

I dont think lg is so better than benq models to think about an upgrade now.
24", tn, full hd, 144hz, maybe finding a friend to sell your old monitor at decent price, but meh, we are talking about same specs.
Better to wait a real new thing...but you know, you can do anything with your money, so if you earn 10k/month changing monitor weekly wont be a problem :)
Im happy with the 2411, next upgrade will be something new (im using a dual monitor, so if i need better colors i need to switch to ips panel, the 144hz one is for mp games only)

From what I researched, LG 24GM77-B looks like the way to go, unless someone can argue otherwise, im getting that.
