ANARKI INSTANTLY HEALS HIMSELF AND RECEIVES A PERMANENT BOOST TO HIS MAXIMUM HEALTH. ANARKI ALSO RECEIVES SPEED BOOST FOR 5 SECONDS AFTER HE USED AN INJECTION.
Now: Rapha leading by 1 frag with seconds left, evil on the hunt. Evil finds him! He's chasing, rapha misses the jump! Evil pins him, frags him, OMG!!!!111 WE'RE ALL TIED UP!!!111
QC: Rapha leading by 1 frag with seconds left, evil on the hunt. Evil finds him, chasing. Rapha teleports away to a safe distance. gg
I just hope that the duel is still based on the abilities of the players and not the abilities of their "champions". If I want to push the "ultimate" button at the right time I'd play LOL/ DOTA / Overwatch.
I want to win, because my aim, timeing, positioning, movement ant tactics is supperior not that i pushed the "ultimate"/"ability" button at the right time.....
Don't get me wrong. If the abilities are just an addition to the gameplay its fine. But it should not play a major role.
I think these abilities are going to add an interesting level of complexity to the game. Anarki's max health starts really low, but he's fast and he can heal. It's going to be interesting to see how he might play against a lumbering, tanky character.
Well, it means he can leave up health and armor for teammates, sooo... just a really bad medic.
"You are hurt? Here, take this medkit, I have no clue how to use it cause I use heroin to heal myself."
Well, in my experience, this sort of thing goes back to early RTS games, where every time you tell a unit to do something, they say something. But it wasn't really until I played LoL that I came across lines of this type that were overdone or trying to exude as much "personality" as possible. That's where the cringeworthiness began, and I think QC is trying to emulate that a bit here.
is way over the top compared to what you might get in say Warcraft 2.
It's like the difference between a funny joke and an awkward joke.
SC2 was a more recent game, and it didn't have this problem.
MOBAs really push the individuality of each hero, so it is not surprising they have decided to do that with their lines compared to a unit that you might have two dozen of in an RTS.
A matter of taste in the end, but I do see a difference that isn't just due to me being an old fart. :D
My truck is loaded!
Let's make a delivery!
I shall avenge us!
Why don't you drive?
One way trip!
As you wish...
Watch out for the bumps!
For my people!
I am prepared to die!
It will be a smoking crater!
Don't wait up for me!
AH KAKAKAKAKAKA!!!!
Even q3's impressives and excellents can sound corny on paper, and they actually became that after they got that DBZ guy to do the voices.
I reckon the style has changed as they attempt to outdo themselves.
See my LoL link and you might get an idea what I'm talking about.
But yeah, I'm sure LoL didn't invent cringe. :D
I actually don't remember Tiberian Sun all too well anyway.
However, this is the voice of the announcer, which doesn't break any common sense. But in QC you get voice of the character itself and the phrases are completely out of sync with the gameplay: you wouldn't say those metaphoric things with such slow speed and calm intonation in the heat of a battle. And by the end of the phrase, game situation can become entierly different and not suitable for it, but the char will still continue to finish it.
i have been playing overwatch recently and as "simplified" everything is compared to quake, they sure as hell know how to make the heroes super cool and the mood of the game epic.
these trailers make me think id could use similar presentation styles.
gritty, sure. Yet Quake is also associated with skill so after years of super cool frag movies with amazing frags etc its kinda akward to watch 2 dudes walk to each other straight and shoot rockets at each other without dodging like its some 14y old playing for the first time.
Wait if it increases your max HP then there's a tiny bit of strategy, you can wait till you lose HP for the heals or you use it straight away every time to have the highest Max HP possible for the late game.
The faster you use your ult the higher your max hp will towards the end of the game. If you only wait to use it for healing then your max hp will be less than the first example.
Anarki is being chased down, juggernaut rushes him, only 10hp left of anarki but he has one second for ability cooldown.............anarki full health kills juggernaut....gg
These random luck ass scenarios will happen more than they should and it will diminish pure skill... still hopping for servers without abilities
Its not luck because Anarkis opponent should be keeping track of his cooldowns and taking fights based on that information. The same way that taking a fight on mega and winning because it spawned beneath you isnt luck if you took the fight because you had timing on the mega
You shouldnt take a fight with Anarki if the fight is going to bring you down to low health and you know his ability will be available to cast during it. Just like you shouldnt put yourself in a vulnerable position on top of a red or mega if you dont know when its spawning
Force him to (or wait for him to) use his ability and then try to kill him while its on cooldown, or take fights where you will win or come out better despite him using his ability
You also have your own abilities too that can help you play offensively
Agreed - polygon count is lower - animation is better. imho
They may tidy this up in Qch... hopefully.
Anarki 'Board Flip' is a good idea - would be nice if he grabbed it on really tight turns.
I would have expected characters to interact with the ground better using modern tech - rather than just sliding around (Visor) as in that 1st Anarki trailer.
'If only' they could look like the FMV Quake Champions trailer from E3 -
(where they've obviously mapped actors)
the way Ranger catches himself by puting his hand down on the ground as he passes the pillars heading onto the jump-pad - and his sideways movement (strafe) as he frags Scalebearer just before that (as he skips to the side on landing)
I was hoping for that kind of attention to detail.
It would have been welcomed.
I also don't think the Gibs are as good either.
There was some really nice character animation in Quake III - limited now by the tech of course.
So if this ability increases max hp by 2 points, as it seems to do in this video, and you can use it every 30 seconds, then by the end of a 10 minute match, your max hp could be up 40 points higher than at the start, right?
If he starts with a max of 75, it would be 115 by the end.
"Anarki instantly heals himself and receives a permanent boost to his maximum health. Anarki also receives speed boost for 5 seconds after he used an injection. "
I guess it's permanent, as long as he stays alive, aka, not like megahealth. But we'll see. Keeping it real permanent, for the duration of the whole game, weather he dies or not, would be kind of hard to balance around.
It would add an interesting tradeoff if it was really permanent though as aeol pointed out in Comment #38.
In the video, you see him with 97hp, which should mean that is the 11th time he has used it. I don't know whether you can read too much from the video though.
the art direction is anything but cohesive, tacky in most areas like the dm6 remake which has like 4 styles mixed into one map.. detail just to show off detail without any cause or need.. then you have the aztec map thats just plain boring...
whats the inviorment saying to me? where am i? just as tacky and unclear as the maps are the characters with the expection of the one who is an exact replica of reflexs model..( are they doing what prince did to dave chappele using him on his album cover(breakfast can wait)? lol)
What does that injection do?
