im totally ready to not get a beta invite

Everyone will get one. The game is going to be free anyway apparently. Maybe they'll do it in tranches so they can hype up the game further (user feedback via comments here or somewhere, twitch, utube,..., review sites).

it now tells me (when signing up) that i need to check my emails for confirmation?

ok, for people who already signed up weeks ago (which was without getting confirmation mail), they wont get the confirmation mail if they try to signup again/now. (cuz ure already in)

they make an "initial group" of testers ... I really would like to know the ratio of the people getting picked for the beta ... prolly like 1/20 ... maybe this beta is also a form of advertisement, if they dont let a lot of people in, why spread the word about it so big, they would get the numbers even without advertising

It can work both ways, making it exclusive and inviting 1/300 creates drama, and drama is the best form of marketing, ("onlywatch" closed beta, tracer butt, tracer lovin' pussy, etc...). On the other hand, while Blizzard are masterminds at greasy marketing, id software are dumb as fuck and any drama tactics they try will probably backfire, kek

I agree with that, id seems to not have a good hold on marketing. Lots of questions and few answers.
