"Closed" means that it's not open to anyone, but that doesn't mean they will have an NDA. Lots of developers are allowing beta testers to stream their games.

closed also means closed, and non disclosure is part of the real legal document of the T&Cs as beth and id are real companies

What I'm saying that is that a "Closed Beta" doesn't necessarily mean people won't be able to stream it. It is unannounced whether the QC closed beta will have an NDA.

Unless you have something that id has said specific to the Q:C beta then it seems pretty on par for companies to allow closed beta testers to stream. For instance Overwatch had a closed beta that had a shitload of streams. Like publius was saying "closed" can refer to just closed access to the game and not closed viewership.

no company allows streaming during closed beta, you can't write a review, you can't post screenshots, all you can do is play it, and send them feedback and bug reports

did you ignore his entire post? There are plenty of examples of a CLOSED BETA being allowed to be streamed. Overwatch probably the biggest example.

So I'm hearing that people who signed up today are getting confirmations in their emails of their sign-up, but folks like myself who registered before haven't gotten any confirmations (checked spam)

I've heard that it's not just an email too but it also includes a link that verifies your sign-up on the QC site.

yeah when you sign up on the site, it says

"Please check your inbox for your confirmation email and follow the instructions.
If you don’t receive it, please check your spam folder."

I never got an email, spam or otherwise...

Initially, confirmation emails were not provided as part of beta sign up. Due to a recent change if you sign up now, you will receive a confirmation email. However, if you previously signed up and try to sign up again, you won't receive a confirmation email because you are already registered in the system.

Your chances for selection to participate in the closed beta is not affected by whether or not you received a confirmation email.

It would be nice if they check sign-up emails across their database of QL Steam and previous yearly subscriptions of Quake Live. I think it's more fair to grant access to those who played and supported their previous Quake with priority.

Wouldn't they get a very biased view of their game from their testers then? It might be smarter to try to aim for something closer to the playerbase they're aiming for.

That is a fair point, FlashSoul.

But then again - if you get your testers from other games who don't have much to do with quake and it's ID, the slight changes in "beta" variables we all want might be overlooked.

We still have ZeRo4. I hope he looks at it from an honourable point of view and the behalf of oldschool quakers, not just "playing games got me this job" standpoint.
