They should have learned from QL that gay sounding characters/VO is not what the players want, and according to the youtube comments it's not only the quake players perspective. It is turning into an OW clone update by update.

For the public audience: I was worried by two things when i first started seeing footage. 1 the "injection" being miss perceived and also the character that puts her finger up (like the f* you finger)

It literally says "Cybernetically Enhanced Junkie" on the official website, so I don't think it will be misperceived. :D

Even the trailers on youtube are all age restricted as well.

I don't think they are marketing this towards youngsters, and that's more in line with the rest of id's games other than QL and Commander Keen.

Despite all their flaws, there is no way Quake Champions characters could be worse than those.

The scalebearer is the most generic "heavy guy" ever, compare it to team fortress's heavy or to ow's Reinhardt.

This anarki fucker is less defined and more annoying than ow's Junkrat, and Junkrat is a mediocre character even by ow's standards.
He can't hold a candle to team fortress' scout.

Those "champions" are dull copies of other game's characters. Paradoxally, anarki has more originality in q3, where he wasn't pandering to "fellow kids".

Why do we need characters with so much "personality" in a multiplayer AFPS like Quake anyway?

It's not like you sit down and have a chat with them, and they are not really part of any story you're gonna care about when playing.

A little backstory you can look up once and then forget is enough. :D

Quake characters developed a vibe with hardly anything needed to be said about them, just because we went through our quake experience along side them. Take Ranger or Bitterman as an example.

The point was that the characters, this one in particular, are boring and clichey. Now you argue about the importance of whatever, but that's not the point

My point was that there is no point in arguing about whether OW or QC characters have better personality because personality isn't even very important.

But I also defended Nyx and Scalebearer because while they may not be as quirky and overblown as OW characters, I don't see them as "generic" like you do.

Yeah, this version of Anarki is annoying, and that is the result of trying to give him too much personality. But really all that is is a bunch of one liners that can hopefully be turned off.

The characters are obviously important when you build your entire game around them... it's called Quake "Champions" if you didn't get the memo

I think for this game, it will only be important that each player can find a "champion" that he considers has coolness or badassery, and that's as far as it will go.

Other players will choose a champion based on stats and abilities.

I like the look of Scalebearer, but he's probably too slow for me.

I'm sure there will be plenty of skins and customizations to keep players who care about their character more than the gameplay happy.

I expect a Quake game to be darker, grittier, and more realistic art-wise than OW's cartoonish, colourful characters, where everything is so cheerful and playful.

One guy on twitch watching an OW stream during the beta once said his eyes were "ejaculating". Not far from the truth. Saturation is turned up to the max in that game.

Q4 was delicious, too bad it didnt have a better audience, the movement fluidity and pace of the game is even faster than q3/ql...or maybe that's just me. hmm
Q4 was most interesting just becase there wasn't typical grinding of ztn, dm6, aero. But completely new map rooster. Which should be a go to for any game in general.
Q2 had The Edge
Q3 initialy had DM6, later on ztn and aero
Q4 had few but Phrantic (which was derived from q3 cpma also) was one of the most played as this in the video was.

And now QC we have remodeled dm6, aero, probably ztn too....shame that we are dragging old maps for 17years now....

Thinking about it Q3-Q4 best maps were done by mappers not id itself. Strange coincidence?

Lets talk maps. Blood Covenant is Campgrounds, taken from Quake III Arena. Are there any other famous maps, such as Bloodrun or Aerowalk, that have made it to Quake Champions?

This is a very good question. We have another classic map which is almost ready for release. I can't say what kind of a map, but I am absolutely sure that will be all to painfully familiar. This map is for dueling, and people will be happy to see and play it.

I just know somewhere I've heard talk about aero, not sure from where, but maybe I'm mistaken who knows :)

Either way, it's not such a big deal if they bring in a couple of old maps, so long as there is lots of new content as well.

Aerowalk was in q1, q3, and QL, so I wouldn't be surprised if they bring it to QC.

I would just be bored to watch another tourney for a completely new game, which would be played again on a rooster of 5 maps and 3 of those are again old ones just because community doesn't want to learn new stuff.
There is s*itload of good maps in q3 and ql made in 10 years which never even were considered or played, because nobody wouldn't even test them and from 1000maps created there is at least 50good ones for any game mode.
That doesn't matter now, let's just hope the game is good.

Relax, if this is really a MOBA, there will be only one map all games are played on. :D

They really need to work on those damn weapons: the RL and the railgun look awful. MG artwork is also out of place, completely uninspired (ie why not just use the RL model from quake1 and add some scifi discrete element or add a colored Q logo on the rocket, if they want to avoid weapons looking too simplistic. Going the UT seems the worst idea).

Also what is that green sh1t falling off from corpses like raining sh1t? Does this sh1t look inspired to you people? If the game will not use blood and gibs instead, or at least use some inspired fall off body parts/items everything will be a f* disaster.

Also most of the players -their praised playerbase would not bother or know how to change that so the standard -the sh1t we see now in the trailers -would be the iconic weapons image of the game which sucks balls.

On top of it how about gibs and the silly bubbles raining? How about the childish color variations so-called "effects" that just don't make sense? When you got so many bad decisions it would be harder and harder to get something good they really have no sense for building anymore finer binary art in a strong consistent doom/quake world it is just that the genius entity behind the Doom1/2 Wolf 3D is not there anymore.

To me the fall of Troika, maybe the only one games company that made relevant games represented the alarm bell announcing the death of gaming evolution. Because all of this is a cultural thing the decay of it we are experiencing now in all the important aspects of our lives.
