It's obvious im searching for best Quake monitor within the TN realm, and since the Viewsonic and the LG seemed to be equal except the LG having better colors (allegedly) why wouldn't I buy the LG?

Now im just confused since the guy on reddit told me the Viewsonic is the best.

new monitors are obv almost as good or better than CRT's in terms of lag and refresh rate now... but that wasnt the case until like 2 years ago...

you will never beat out CRTs with cheapness because it is ebay / craigslist prices (the equivalent of this in european countries) so even though poor resolution you can get 120hz 1ms but this is only for pepople who want it on a budget ... if you want to spend real money ($100+) get a new monitor

not an expert on monitors... but... i had a diamond pro 2060u before it broke thanks to fedex and it was amazing to play on, could do 160hz and felt great. I know that the best one has to be the sony FW900, from second hand accounts because it has the best specs and all that , if it was still made I could buy one :(

The only TN panels with significant speed advantages (vs 144hz 27" 1440p AHVA) are 180-240hz TN panels, but most 240hz have insultingly inaccurate color presets (AOC and BenQ).

Also, skill always outweighs monitor features, and most competitive gamers use the worst 144hz monitors, including garbage like the GN246HL and VG248QE which use LED PWM Dimming or Flicker which ruins motion clarity and and makes some people suffer from health issues like headaches and/or eyestrain:

Figure out what it is you ACTUALLY want from your monitor and then ask me. The PG248Q has really low latency and higher than 120/144hz output, but because it's overclocked it comes with it's own "image quality" problems - which is why I never recommend it unless it's purely for esports/competitive play. You also seem concerned with image quality, so I suggested the better alternatives that have almost zero difference in signal delay... You'll now have questions to that and I am not prepared to write essay upon essay, but you're welcome to ask me when I'm live so I can elaborate quickly.

I was just asking why people here claimed the LG had better colors when tests by that reddit guy indicated the Viewsonic has not only better colors but beter input delay too so I think i should buy that one, specially considering the new LG is going to be worse.

200hz CRT is still best in term of smoothness and responsivity, but you need prolly 400fps stable to really feel the difference. And you usually (well almost all the time actually) need to lower your screen res to ridiculous res like 1024x768 or even 800x600, and that, on a 22" monitor, which sux monkey balls imho.

1920x1080 on a true 24" monitor is one of the reason why i prefer by a large margin a good TN monitor over a CRT.

ofc, like i said, 200hz is still killer, but if you gauge the pros and cons, now 24"+ LCD monitor are significantly better than a 22" CRT.

colors, contrast and all those things are customizable anyways, and who cares if you don't get perfect black or perfect colors reproduction, if you're not a graphist or just a FPS player ?

just get a 24" or 27" 144hz 1ms (or even better, 240hz 1ms, but it costs much more obviously, but if you have the money, go for it definitely, you won't regret it :)), any model really, it doesn't matter.

don't try to pursue the quest of getting the PERFECT monitor, cause actually it doesn't exist yet, it's just like mice you know.

fyi most of the quake pros including me (i'm not pro tho) have benq xl2411z, and they're perfectly fine with it.

Unless you're top 10 in 1v1 the kind of monitor you have makes a very small difference on the standard of your game. Don't overthink equipment choices.

i got zowie xl2411, it's fucking glorious. motion blur reduction on, took 2 days to get used to, wouldn't switch ever.

you can adjust the colors on gpu drivers... digital vibrance -> you get better colours.
newer benq/zowie monitors have a digital vibrance setting in the monitor menu.

factory settings are really not good, you need exactly 5 minutes to tweak the colors and you're set

the transfer from 2233 to this wasnt at start so good, but after a few days i adapted. the thing is fast.

Think they merged or something, my zowie ec2a has a benq logo on the side and the monitor box says benq by zowie or something like that

Well sure, there is nothing wrong with having HDMI on a screen, but I would have thought DP would be a higher priority for a screen that is generally intended to be used with computers.

I have a 9 year old LCD screen on my desk with DP. I thought it'd be standard by now.

i traded vg248qe for this one after 2 days, don't really care about DP at this point, the colors may be a bit worse but the visibility in game is 5x better than on asus and that's what matters way more to me. i'm not into singleplayer games that much right now and if i was, i'd get a bigger screen or some IPS stuff instead of this.

You claim it has no impact in your quake playing, in fact, it inproves it since it's less blurry and you claim has no noticeable delay.

Well, I've no idea what kind of advances have been made in this area (it's not like they're going to tell you exactly how their shit works), but things like blur reduction and anti-ghosting usually work by buffering up frames and processing them to determine the best way to overdrive pixels.

If it buffers up even ONE frame, it is going to add an unacceptable amount of lag, about 7ms at 144Hz. It may not be noticeable, but it is a concern for the most competitive category of player because you can't react to something you haven't seen yet, which means a minimum of 7ms will be added to all your reaction times, and when you're up against Heartless with his 139ms reaction time, you need every millisecond you can get. :D

That's because there is no way to "fix" blur on LCD screens without actually improving pixel response time (i.e. making a better panel). All the hacks, overdrive, light boost, etc, all are gonna sacrifice low lag for a better picture.

I don't think it really works well as a containment ground since for redditors, it is supposed to be "the front page of the web". If a link gets put on there, redditors will follow it---the more controversial it is, the more will follow---and "contaminate" that other site.
