There's a difference between saying something should not be allowed and saying you don't care about it, it doesn't matter, or you have no time for it.
It's more like saying, "sure, have your car, but if I have my bike, it doesn't bother me either way whether you have your car".
At the end of the day, a console is just a command-line based shortcut for stuff that can be done other ways, for those who have taken the time to learn the commands.
I can't imagine that QC would not have an internal console for dev purposes anyway, so if there is enough pressure, they'll surely make it accessible to everyone.
You can turn in console by issuing +left/+right. The default speed is indeed not so fast. You can make it faster by some cvars, so I think the 30-120 seconds value is too exaggerated but you still lose a lot of time to enter those commands. It's only slightly better than gamepad though.
It appears to me that this thread is about the in-game command-line console, not the console that you play games on while sitting on the couch. It seems quite likely that slm is talking about the latter. That's all I'm saying.
But of course, the both of you could know that, and there could be some jokes or puns going on here that do not come across well in text alone.
It's not just about configs.. It's honestly a very nice and convenient feature.. there's really no reason to forego it imo..? Like what's the point? the thing has been in quake since 1996.. Unless it's not as much idtech as they want to claim....?
I just want some sort of bright/colored skins, unlagged RL and a decent netcode. RL atm and not being able to see the teammarker above players are driving me NUTS!
Their doing the right thing focusing on PC. They tried Quake on Xbox 360 with Quake Arena Arcade. Sure it got decent reviews but it wasn't played much. It was pretty big on Dreamcast but that's mainly because that was a novelty at the time and a lot of people that had Dreamcast didn't have powerful enough PCs to play Quake 3.
Yes CS:GO is on consoles but it was a waste of development time. They never carried on supporting the console versions.
I rather them focus their time on making the PC version perfect than compromising to cash in on console sales.
The manager who is in charge of deciding such things doesn't know what a command line or a config file is. Don't tell id you want console access, they'll just give you a PS4 port.
