This is the first time I see people driven off this much by a "closed beta" to the point they're not even going to give it another chance, and give away their key, etc
This week beta testers were given three extra keys each, to share with their friends. They are not giving away their own key, that was already reedemed four weeks ago by them.
This thread shows the posters don't have friends, but not that they have stopped playing the beta.
it's more likely that they do have friends, many very close and dear friends, but they care so much for esreality and its dedication to quake that they believe esr users should have the first opportunity to use these keys.
esr users are big-hearted and thoughtful that way.
>People got keys given to them to give to friends. But no one here has friends, so.... :D
we have friends ... but they already have keys. better this way instead of people sale keys. at the time of quakelive beta in 2008 it was mostly handled through irc chat i remember.
none of my friends care about this game tbh
this is really the sad part
i remember OW beta was super hyped
if you ask around about quake champions no one has heard anything :/
maybe bethesda needs to pay for a thousand amazon turks to flood reddit with "organic content" the same way blizzard did.
it seems like zenidthesda banks too much on the "historical significance" of quake & doom. maybe they don't understand that there are millions of kids now who don't give a shit about the history of pc gaming, and that id software is no longer a stand-out name in pc gaming.
10 years ago, id was a relevant competitor against companies like valve. valve grew and grew, and id shrunk into itself. relying on the power of name alone isn't going to have the same impact now that it did then.
it's a totally different market.
QC needs some subversive grassroots marketing. they need to pay for some youtubers and streamers to show their game in a positive light. they need pewdie pie to spaz out in a video talking about how quake, the original red-pilled game, is back in form. they need to hire a few guys with last names that combine words for various precious metals and types of cups.
