It was confusing at first, and the in-game description tells you nothing useful.

I think I get it now, but it will be hard to tell how good it is until everyone gets it. :D

One thing though, you don't have to stand in range of the obelisk, like it is Domination, after depositing the soul. That confused me at first.

Also, it is round based, but there is no waiting, which was what I was afraid of.

yep that confused me as well. and you don't have to carry the soul all the way to your point, you can just throw it there.

I love it, very fun mode and fast turn arounds if it's a good game with decent/even teams. Watching Noctis' stream last night looked pretty good when playing organised games too.

It's bombing run from UT2004 with some tweaks. It's fun for pub games imo but not sure how well it works for competitive play, we'll see I guess.

Now we just need a proper duel mode, meanwhile im ffa while solo and sacrifice when partying.

Just would add a 30 seconds optional video at start of warmup, that shows how its played, most newbs have no clue what theyre doing, like going with soul to enemy base.

If nobody else knows how to play

then its all the same

- two neutral obelisks at the start of the match
- when soul spawns bring it to either obelisk to make it "your teams" obelisk and start the "countdown"
- first team to reach 100% scores a point
- opposing team can steal the soul by hanging out close to your obelisk while it is being uncontested (not sure for how long, maybe 5 sec or so).
- once returned to their base their percentage starts counting to 100 and your team needs to steal the soul.
- soul spawns once again shortly afterwards
- your team's obelisk does not change until the end of the round.

I like to think of it as two teams of demons fighting over a soul.

4v4 FFA with an object

game mode is fun. enjoying it.

There's mainly two things I find annoying.

(1) The rounds. It interrupts the flow in an unpleasant way especially since they are very short, but it is probably necessary since the first capper chooses their "base", which in turn is necessary because the maps are asymmetrical.

(2) 5-second respawn delay feels like an eternity.

Did not bother to play from OBS point of view it looks sh1t.
There is enough strats and all to be build in regular FFA duel matches for me.

i played and this sacrifice s**k hard!!

it's a bit derpy but it's fun because of the soul mechanics. would like to see things like soul collision size, throw speed (i.e. charging) and trajectory tweaked a bit to allow for more passing and interception opportunities. also probably should to be 1 champ limit.

Played a few games, seems really fun! Suits the champion stuff as well. Just need to find some decent people to play with because playing with noobs that don't know what's going on makes it very boring :|

My Impression of sacrafice?

Its just another shitty mode that cannot carry this game to success. Thank fuck for FFA and Duel cos if all this game had was sacrafice i wouldnt even play it.

They also need to look at the bases being more even in how they are to attack/defend or have fixed Obelisks each round.

For instance on Blood Covenant this base is much much harder to defend than the other meaning whoever gets to pick the first Obelisk has a massive advantage for the rest of the game. It does give the incentive to really push at the start and could be seen as the same as pistol rounds in CSGO but the advantage is huge.

I'm pretty sure that's why there are multiple rounds. Without this, there'd be no reason for the multiple rounds.

That's fine but in the example I gave on Blood Covenant the difference between the bases is far to much.

I don't think so either. It looks to me like the whole "choose your own base" thing plus rounds was done deliberately to make use of the asymmetrical maps.

also in each map the weaker base has kill-zones nearby that you can toss the ball into and either reset or delay.
makes it such a bitch to defend as nmes can just use their resources to steal and cliff the soul and not worry preserving some for the run back to base.

This game is going nowhere without matchmaking, noobs are always stomped and soon it will be empty as ql

Fun to play 4v4 scrims. Boring and tedious when played alone or not as a team.

Also very confusing for spectators. A good spectators game should be able to be enjoyed by people that don't even play the game, whereas now the game is chaotic even for seasoned players.

Most importantly if you quake players don't know how this mode goes what do you think would other people understand from it? This mode is dead before arrival in competitive scene from a streaming success point of view -well fatal1ty got some viewers bc he is fatal1ty (better PR) but anyway cooler's duels attracts more viewers already.

I think they could of helped a lot of the confusion by just having a 1 time in-game explanation or just put up a video somewhere that shows how you play.

It was confusing at first but if you just listening to the voice cues you should figure it out after 1-2 games. Then the next thing you learn is throwing the soul.

Now that I have a good feel for it I think I like it more than traditional Quake CTF. It has a lot more micro decisions you and your team will have to make.

I can also see this being really fun to watch two really good teams play. Right now part of the problem with the mode is simply the lack of matchmaking.

Only played it in solo queuing, but I find it really boring. Mostly just get the soul to a point and let the rushing begin from both teams. No matter if I am winning or losing, close game or blowout, I'm just bored when playing that mode. Might be slightly different on a pickup or in a clan game, however I miss the dynamic gameplay of CTF that comes from having two bases with flags and a middle that people must cross through. Only times when sacrifice is somewhat exciting is when the soul is out on the map (not on a point), but it would be twice as exciting if there were two flags on the move.

Maps are also an issue. The new DM6 remake, blood covenant, is just boring to play on in general, especially after they moved quad and the bases are quite uneeven so getting to pick the base can really tip the match in your favor.

Powerups with 4x quad and 4x damage reduction on protection is just overpowered as well. If the enemy gets a powerup you just hope it is quad as the only efficient way to kill protection is with the broken gauntlet (can do 200+ damage in less than a second at times).

I prefer one flag CTF to Sacrifice. I think one flag CTF is cleaner, easier to understand game mode. And Sacrifice turned out to be quite confusing for many players. One flag CTF is a better mode for newbies and it also trains people for proper CTF as well.
