i would of called "Deathbringer" Doombringer sounds like a doom mod of some sort.

Awesome stuff! Is it easy to port over maps from Quake3?

Yeah, it's the same map format. Currently you would have to change entities for Teleporter destinations and jumppads and a bunch of the pickups. But eventually I want to add special cases for that so it will be working with Q3 maps too.

EDIT; I've now added so that the next version will have rudimentary support for Quake 3 map entities.
I don't really want the game to be just another dumping ground for Q3 maps. But it would also be counter productive to not offer people who want to play their favorit Q3 maps in it to be able to do so.

I just did a test with my favorit QL map, Furious Heights. And it worked perfectly fine. But one thing to keep in mind, is that the maps won't play the same as in QL or Q3. Jumps are different. Some are easier, some are harder. But you're also moving a lot faster. So covering a map like T7 doesn't take nearly as much time as in QL.

I made a few new maps that might work well. :)

Can't see what's soo DOOM2ish about this game from the alpha gameplay video...

I would imagine most of the DOOM inspired stuff will shine through in the single player mode of this game when its eventually made...

also the super shotgun in doombringer is a top tier weapon

It's mostly subtle things that don't leap out at you. On top of the shotgun taking a greater role. There's also aspects of the movement that is inspired by Doom2's more hectic type of dodgy movement. The Deathmatch (or FFA as it has unfortunately come to be called) mode is going to be more balanced like Doom 2's much more chaotic and fun Deathmatch, rather than what you would get in Quake 3 FFA.

But like Al said. the brunt of that will come in when the Single player comes around.

The reason I started making this was because I wanted to move on from Doom modding. But I didn't see where I could move on from. Since none of the offerings on display looked very interesting to me.

So I am making this game as a basis for making maps in it, and with a bit of luck, to have other people make maps in it too. Since that would be fun to play.

All I could see were black and red. bots killed me without being able to see anything :(

First time I played I started a local game and it started in a map that had almost no lighting at all. But then I connected to a server and everything was normal.

I've hade recent reports of this as well. I've tried geting someone to send me a screenshot of it. So I would really appreciate IF you could help me with that.

A few other things:

- The line ending on the .sh file is set to DOS, I had to change that to be able to run the game;
- The binary name in the .sh file is wrong, should be "./darkplaces-linux-x86_64-glx/sdl" (I'm using glx) (the "./" is missing too);
- libjpeg on my system is "libjpeg.so.62" instead of "libjpeg.so.8" (which is kind of old), but that's something I can work around using a prebuilt .so with LD_PRELOAD.

Other than that, the game runs fine, although I do get a few PNG warnings on screen when maps load (as you can see from the first screenshot).

Ah. Those shorts are from maps which are just a bit testning. I should've removed those before upload. My bad. :/

Thanks for the report. I don't use linux myself. So I would appreciate help with making it more streamlined to run with linux.

To get it working properly with Linux "out of the box", you'd only need to apply those changes to the script and maybe update the version of libpng.

After a quick check on Google, it appears that the current stable version in most distros is 1.2 (libpng.so.12). I have both 1.2 and 1.6 installed on my system.

If you need anything particular tested, or help with anything else, just let me know. For the most part, the game runs just fine on Linux, you would just need to take care of those details I mentioned.

That is a known bug. And unfortunately it has been elusive to figurer out why it happens. I'm on my way to work fight now. But best I can offer you is to redo your video config. I think it happens when darkplaces has an issue with the video mode selected. Drivers maj also be the culprit.

I'll dö what I can to Hunt the issue down. But generally it has been a matter of switching resolution. Or something of that effect.

Reflex is not open source, you can't just "work on it". Besides, judging from the style of Doombringer, I don't think it's the kind of project Kristus would be interested in.

I'd essentially be limited to do maps.

But most of all I'm afraid I don't particularly like Reflex. Plus it's only MP.

It's a joke. There's not terribly much different at the moment though. The game balance is different making it play differently.

Weapons have a lot more knockback than commonly used.
Weapon balance is a bit different and generally harder to hit with.
- Shotgun is a tier 1 weapon.
- Rail fires faster than general.
- Rockets got wider splash.
- LG is more damaging, but hard to hit with.
- Instant weapon switch.
Ammo system is more balanced towards the ammo pickups than the weapon pickups.
Movement is similar but different. More focus on swift dodging movements.

After this cup and the next version is released though, we're planning to move ahead with our next step in development. Where we start working on the Single player aspect of the game.

hrmmm I cant unzip doombringer.exe. Must be admin but I am. Using 7zip. Never had this problem before. Ever.

You don't need that file though. iut's just a launcher a guy made for the game. You can just run doombringer_windows.cmd if you're playing on Windows.

After a few hours of good sports and great casting from Jehar we ended the first ever DB cup.

We had a great time and now have a lot less money in my bank account. Ö
