Why would they boycott one of the few tourneys that will have any sort of prize pool? Its all about grabing the money before the game inevitably dies, then its back to a heroshooter of the current month or ql

To be fair, when I was watching, rapha did say he would prefer 10 minutes and cycling of champions.

Yea, I think I remember him explaining why they probably set it up the way they did and he said he was alright with it so far. But also he was open to other solutions. He seemed to like the champs, and wants people to have to use multiple champs in duels.

All the rest of the pros I watched were not crazy about the duel set up. I don't blame them. I like the champs as well, but not at the expense of ruining the flow that a 10 minute classic duel has. I think they need to find another way to combine both things to make it more like classic duels.

I'm sure id received plenty of feedback from all the pros and it looks like most of them will ask to get rid of the rounds. I hope they change it for next beta. i don't see what the harm would be of testing a new duel system out.

Most people don't like going to their 9-5 job every morning. Most people too lazy or unmotivated to escape the rat race and change carreer perspective. Still beats being homeless or collecting welfare checks. In the end it's all about $$$

Concise: They don't care too much about QC anyways. They'll probably keep playing OW for the bigger amount of $$$ it gives and hop in to some tourneys here and there for shits and giggles, but most of them don't really care since they won't prioritize this game like the folks here do, so don't expect them to go on any strike or whatsoever. People should be happy idsoftware decided to make a Quake successor because if we all set our ego's aside and think critically for a second we know that this QC game won't last after the initial hype and will probably turn into a niche-fest like all previous Quake titles.

They already made a huge blunder not including matchmaking in the first beta-phases and even the most unempathic and narcissistic Quake veterans are PM'ing me on Steam telling me they feel sorry for all the noobs they are butchering. People are purposefully not teaming up with friends to give newbies a chance. They should really fix this ASAP, else it's gonna be 'checkmate' as anyboy would say it.

Of course some are going to enter QC tournaments for the money. Progaming is what rapha, cooller and cypher do for a living.

We are discussing how much they happen to like the game. Rapha at least has said he likes it, and of course QC is more fun to play than playing Lucio. Same in cooller's case.

They do, and they don't.

The three names I mentioned don't have a career (not mere studies) or a profitable business outside playing videogames. Other pros do, such as toxic, fatality and thresh.

Plus remember cypher and cooller live in Belarus and in Russia. Not exactly the land of opportunity, yet at the same time the favorable currency exchange (being paid in dollars) allows them to live with what in other countries would be pennies.

But you can ask them yourself for confirmation. Just be aware nobody is going to tell you he's poor; that's something you see with your own eyes. For example you can tell by seeing them streaming from small apartments without decoration, in noisy areas, etc.

They live in the capitals of countries. There's a great selection of work. They just love to play + they are professionals, what can be better for them? :)

Lmao. Cypher, rich from family. Now i've heard it all. The major part of what he earned has gone to his parents.
Between the quake pros, he's the one that likely has less moneys of them all. His pc is weak, before upgrading it last year he had third world specs and a 75 hz monitor. He had to upgrade it to be able to play overwatch. With his old pc, he couldn't even max out fps in Cs:go. Go figure.

In cypher's case his family was a burden. Then Rapha received zero support, as his dad had already passed away by when he had started his progaming career, and cooller has to maintain his own family (kid+wife).

But quake pros don't earn more money in overwatch than in quake.

Even winning a single torunament will give Rapha or who else more money than a year of Overwatch, PLUS the fame of winning a solo tournament and the fact that for all of them it's more pleasurable to play even this quake than Overwatch.

All quake pros more or less quit the other games during the quake nda lift, and that's just a restricted beta, where they had to periodically restart the game to have it a little less laggy.

Once the game will be a little more polished and open to the public, all of them will focus 100% of their attentions and time on quake champions.

Occasionally they may play Overwatch here and there to mix it up, and out of habit; some of them will take part in a sporadic Overwatch tourney, but that's it. Quake will be their only interest, especially with the influx of new stream spectators.

In Overwatch, they're nobodies; in Quake, they're kings and feel like home. (Let's also not pretend that this won't apply to us all; we will all switch to Champions)

Why would they go on any strike? The current form of Quake is better for them to play and gives them more chances to earn anything than any other game.

Yep. People on this thread don't realize gaming is what the listed pros do for a living. It's a different mentality than what we have, of playing what we like until we stop liking it. This is the only thing they know how to do and that they have experience doing, so they have to play what they have to play just like we have to go to work because we have to.

It's only a coincidence that so far all of the pros are liking the game, but even if they didn't you would still see them at Quakecon. People here are forgetting everybody hopped or tried to hop to PK, Q4, SM, OW, even when expressing they didn't like some of those games.

And I assure you all rapha prefers to enjoy the Quake-like movement in QC than Lucio's movement, or than flipping burgers because that's the only other job he would be accepted in.

rapha is most likely salaried in OW. He doesn't need to win to make money. There's also a league coming up in NA, it's meant to be the NFL, with a similar scale in terms of money. If Blizzard doesn't fuck things up, quake champions money will be a joke compared to OW money. That being said, if anybody can fuck it up, it's definitely Blizzard.

They aren't nobodies in OW. TL for example is a very popular team, even before they picked up a very popular twitch streamer named shadder2k, (who has unreal fps skill and you might see him play qc soon).

Pretty much all the announcers and all the ow pros know about rapha. And his team is good and exciting to watch. They just lose games they shouldn't. Their games are always close, and it's kind of frustrating to be a fan of theirs. But it's fun in a way. Remind me of when I was really into watching the NFL and would get nervous before my team's game.

Anyway, Blizzard just announced their plans for a huge league that involves a farming system, and billionaire investors. It starts next month. QC would have to have a very strong following to get the pros back. Although I could see some of them come back if they could play both. And esp if the game is popular enough for them to maintain +1000 viewers on twitch. In qc duel, you could probably stream your practice. That way you're training while making money. In ow you can't stream your scrims, or no one does at least. So if the game is popular enough for them to get twitch viewers, they might be able to go back to quake. But in OW, I bet the top teams players will make a really good living and be very famous.

Rapha and Fazz haven't been negative to the duel at all and I don't speak russian so I don't know what Agent and Cooller say, ofc they all may prefer the classic duel we have now I guess but we first need to see how this works in a tournaments then tweak it from there. They duel is way from being done I think.

All the pros i've spectated said they like the game. All of them. Rapha, Cypher, Toxic, Hal, Fatality, Cooller.

They seem to have some doubts about the round format, sacrifice, and the bugs, but in general, you can feel they're enthusiastic of a new quake and happy to have some changes. And the incoming tourneys, and new spectators.
