I think this draws parallels with the whole industry, not just QC. I'd say QC is not in that bad of a spot, but the same principles applies and it hurts.
This has happened to duel, it's easier to win. Now you just need a little bit of momentum and a couple of frags to score a round win, you no longer need to defend your accumulated lead as long as before that tested the skill of both players involved, because the game automatically grants you a victory for such a small achievement of 3 frags. It also takes away what the catching up player can invest for regaining control. The shortened 5 minute scale and the small amount of available "lives" (this duel reminds me of last man standing from UT99) gives more possibility for worse players to win by playing reckless and aggressive, doing wildcard moves, and forces better players to counter that with passive and defensive play.
