thanks this is another picture of my desk-tops which are not working at the moment but we can hope :)

the first one is stuck at the windows XP install screen and wont boot from any disks and the second one i got it to show the BIOS once but only once :( And the hard drive from the laptop is encrypted and I do not have the time to install a new operating system over it so I cannot use it right now either...

There is a third one off screen but the heat sink fell off and i need to screw it back on, and a motherboard with a pentium 4; but I dont have a heat sink for it right now... there is one in my closet that is supposed to have some kind of linux on it but for some reason it wont boot ...

on the compact disks and DVD's there is an install disk for windows XP and also an install disk for temple OS, and i think there is also an install disk for windows 95 but i do not remember where it is right now :(

'Building the timber frame house (the revival of a forgotten craft)' by Tedd Benson is an excellent resource for those that enjoy woodworking and building. As you're from England, you know that these structures can last many centuries (medieval english timber frames are considered top of the bill (of the west) by the author.
The book is meticulously detailed, with lots of drawings. The author is quite funny and very passionate about his craft.

I have another book by the same author that shows many of his builds. These often look awful inside (american interiors), but the structures are beautiful.

I've always wanted to build a house. It won't be timber framed though, except for some interior work.

I just realised you might have meant the coloured one, which is called 'Tiny Homes, Simple Shelter' by Lloyd Kahn, and is just superb and chuckful of inspirational houses.

it depends on what you want

a good 22" CRT @ 120+Hz is at least as smooth as a TN 144Hz 1ms, if not smoother. 140+Hz CRT is smoother/faster than any 144Hz 1ms TN

also the colors and contrast are still slightly better on a good CRT

but with a 24" LCD you have larger screen/image and 1920x1080, whereas with a 22" CRT the image is smaller and you're pretty much forced to play at lower screen resolutions in order to get 140+Hz

I switched from 144 Hz CRT to 144 TFT and it's so bad in comparison IMHO :/

Colours are easy to fix if you know what you're doing with the colour profiles.

I know CRT will always have better colour representation over all, but on a new monitor it's still pretty good if done correctly.

I don't spend that much time playing anymore. But anyway what do you mean by imbalanced exactly? The fact that my left and right hands aren't at the same level? Is that actually bad in any way? Because I've never noticed any ill side effect.

We actually have the same desk, except I took the L part of it and extended it to the other end of the desk so now it's just a 70" long ass desk :D

Interesting. What did you use to connect it to the other end? Because there's no room for the metal plates underneath because of the wooden panel. Did you cut holes in it?

Yea, I got some random spare L-Brackets and just connected it that way. I also removed all the other stuff that I didn't use such as the keyboard tray and the top section that you have.

Neat. It's so much different now ahah. I've been thinking about removing the upper part too. It's not that useful and kinda getting in the way.

I had to remove my top part because it was sagging down so it didn't look as nice. Not just that, but I didn't use any of the little storage spots that it had anyways so it offered 0 use to me anyways.

I'm actually going to be making my own desk soon, as for the past few years the amount of water damage (the white bubbly stuff is all water damage) and just the amount of times I've actually slammed my desk, is making it feel like a piece of cardboard playing on it.

Well yeah, that's exactly what I'm pointing at. Having your arms at different levels for an extended amount of time causes inbalances in the scapular area, which can cause tightness and pains. Also, having an imbalanced posture from sitting this way promotes a higher chance of other muscular imbalances over time.

For instance, having your right arm elevated and under tension recruits the right trapezius, rhomboid, latissimus dorsi and posterior deltoid. Doing this for multiple hours a day can cause these muscles to become stronger and tighter than your left side. Next thing you know, you start to move and pick up things in daily life, not being aware of your imbalances you're prone to overuse your righthand side of your body more and can start overtaxing, leading to injury. Imbalances in the upper back also affect the rest of your posterior chain (erector spinae, glutes, shoulder joints, hamstrings, hips and in extreme cases your feet placement). So please understand the importance of what I'm telling you here.

It's easy to overlook proper posture and seating, but most big injuries start from excessive bad way of sitting and disregarding physical fitness. Seating is just terrible for your back, and sitting in a shit posture is just asking for bad stuff to happen.

I recommend you to put your keyboard on the same level of your mouse, or if not capable, to atleast stretch and strengthen your upper body and be aware of your posture a bit more.

Thanks. Improving this situation would be quite challenging, though. Yesterday I took pictures to show you how my arms are positioned as I play but they didn't come out great so I decided against posing them then. With that comment of yours I might as well show them though. I wish I could have taken a single picture with both my arms in position but sadly I don't have three arms.

Basically to be able to use my mouse correctly, my elbow needs to rest on the desk. I could put the keyboard on the desk too but my chair's armrest doesn't reach that high and having my left arm floating in the air would be fairly awkward (and probably much worse for my health).

Stretch upper back and pectorals daily. Do push ups couple of times a week and get yourself a chin up bar.

Keeping good back and shoulder health is about strengthening the rotators in the complete axis. So start pushing and pulling with a retracted and depressed scapula is a good start.

Also take enough breaks in between computer sessions.

I was mostly thinking of suggestions regarding the setup but that works too, thanks.

In that case I suggest putting keyboard on same level, raising chair and putting something under your feet for support if your feet get too high off te ground, DIY it.

This is better than a mousepad. Aside from some rock that has spent millennia being smoothed by a river, this is the smoothest surface I've ever gamed on. I've had it for 10 years and the entire area is incredible. I've tried every mousepad I could think of and nothing comes close. It's smoother than glass. I don't know how else to describe it.

I know it sounds absurd and if things were reversed and it was you that had posted that pic, I'd call you a liar. I never have any issue with the cursor jumping around while aiming like some people do or anything like that when not using a mousepad. I will have this table until one of us dies. Which is good, because when you're 7' tall(I have Marfan Syndrome), you don't exactly fit under regular tables/pc desks that most of you guys on ESR show us. So between the smoothness and sturdiness of the table, I'm quite happy. =)
