watched rapha get killed by someone who couldnt strafejump, attacked with the new gl, and seemingly never played an fps with a mouse before. the other guy played that charge character. quake champions is quite tragic huh
was awake until late last night to watch, but had to go to bed . Now i wanted to check in and see if i missed anything cool, but no recording of the stream ??
Team liqud w rapha and dahang vs tox, fazz, noctis and stermy in a new quake . And no one is talking about it ???
Why wasnt this "event" advertised and hyped more ?
It was the first LAN event of good players , no real tournament or prizepool(showmatch) , but its the first time we could really see how it plays with good netcode\LAN . , and usa vs eu .
Rapha vs dahang in duel was beeing talked about also before i went to bed, did it happen ? was there any other fights of the top duelers? what was the outcome ?
Have so many shittalked QC to a degree that most have just given up and lost all interest in Quake in general ?
Info i got :
EU crushed USA . 3-0 , but there was promise to be seen in the USA team. score was 6-1 in totem captures or whatever is called
USA team had played like 10 matches of sacrifice only.
Rapha was sick , feeling ill , you could also see him on stream that he did not feel good.
Fazz keyboard broke during flight , didnt play as good as he could have.
Tox LAN aim looked lethal
Stermy rails are lethal also
Dahang was hitting really well , that OW support seems to have been nice aim practice.
Sacrifice is horrible to watch, like CA levels of bad. The casters tried really hard to explain what was going on, but still it was unwatchable because there's too much stuff going on, in different places than in the points to defend/attack and all over the map rather than at one or two spots. It really is like watching FFA.
Since about 70% of the playing time was spent on that mode then that's a big reason why nobody is talking about the stream as a whole, and why it had from only 700 to 1400 viewers (nothing).
Only one proper Sacrifice match was played, which was the euros vs the raphas. The euros only played that match. The others were raphas vs the audience, vs the devs (as expected Willits doesn't know how to strafe), and scrambled.
In the euros match individual skill was displayed from time to time (tox got little POV time) and I'm sure the players had fun playing, but overall watching it wasn't enjoyable since Sac really is a miserable experience on stream. There was no clear common goal so it was like looking at tox playing FFA on his stream for 15 secs a map. Also on the stream every single capture felt sudden and anticlimactic because there's no audio queues regarding the timer expiring soon. Sac just ends.
Duel had only one good match, which was rapha-dahang at the end of the day. Before that they showed classics such as id-azk (I know they are good but that's not an attraction) and dahang-roger (people in the audience). Euros didn't play duel.
Rapha-dahang played like a standard QL duel actually, with the difference being that it abruptly ends after three kills (anticlimactic) and that there's less fights since there's less items. Overall it was a good match, but that needed something to play for to make it more exciting (a trophy) and each round to last longer.
Also I think the rounds system contributes to the match being anclimactic, since it's more of a rush to win one big match than a series of matches on the same map.
And that's it really. It was a really boring stream and only 10% of the time was spent in worth watching matches, that still weren't nowhere near as fun to watch as of previous Quake games. Matches the QC playing experience.
Duel was by far better to watch than Sac and I think duel is actually fine to watch, in comparison to how good it was in QL. Could be better of course but it's not bad. I only hope they remove the rounds system, for the sake of streams as a continuous match is just more exciting to watch.
Sacrifice tho is just an abomination on stream. It should either be fully revamped or be removed from the game, because mere hud or audio changes are not going to be enough to make it anywhere enjoyable to watch. Plus it's unbelieveably boring to play solo, hence it's the only gametype that sometimes lacks players to launch MM in the game.
The only notorious thing was the horrible fashion sense of the casting team. And if that is the highlight then the whole thing was boring.
edit: Also there were a ton of technical issues in-game. Like half of the duel matches were stopped because of this, and they weren't restarted. I had forgotten about this because the casting team did a really good job to cover that up, for example by hosting quick interviews. There was also some FPS stuttering. The game is not ready for Quakecon.
yeah i could not follow sacrifice at all . Atleastr there should be a graph to show where the soul is , captured or on its way to others totem . Like QL ctf has , but this 2017 game could make something better. Or just .. ctf .. :P
Also autotrack on soul carrier , and hot keys to spectate different people . 1-8 prebinds for different players. Cycling through players looks so bad.
I think it would be simpler to just replace Sac with CTF, both for future tournaments and for pub play. Sac needs so much work that might as well drop it now on closed beta. For example it badly needs mod specific maps and fixed points.
I did like the idea of trying something new and objective based, but Sac just failed. It's the least played mode, the most boring to play solo and an abomination on stream, so it shouldn't be what's being shown on stream as the main Quake mode. I understand it's fun to play 4v4, but every team based gametype is fun when played as a team.
To the very least it will be fun seeing the 1m prize pool being burned live. For Quakecon they are going to get 10k viewers on Sacrifice matches, paying 1m for that. Duel could get up to 20k. That's how it was yesterday, with Sac getting half the viewers than duel.
I played all Quakes, except QC and I sometimes couldn't tell WTF is going on during Sac stream. I wonder what it looked like for people that aren't quakers.
Also the other commentator, Blu, has a very good flow.
Anyway, the duel was fine to watch, but I have to agree that Sacrifice is way too intense. Constant fighting at and aroung the obelisk, non stop.
I liked how at one point they let us hear the communication in between the players, even if it was only for like 20 seconds and what we heard was hard to make sense of with what was on the screen. That's a feature that I always wanted to have in team tournament... but yeah, ideally I'd like to hear what the players are saying all the time and not just a snippet, but that's obviously never happening.
Still super excited about seeing these high stake matches at QuakeCon, hopefully it will be good :)
Any vod from day 2? It was a nice event. Decent casters and coverage. We had old faces like Unholy, Makaveli, Jibo, DjWheat, Carmack etc. Also Toxic was a beast!
