Tubio twitch works fine for me with S5 neo and 5 years old lg smart tv. No miracast needed. I guess its not the case with pana.

i have miracast in my bluray player, and miracast on the xperia z3, all i need is a decent app from googleplay, otherwise i use smart on the bluray player through wifi, which also works when connected to my z3 hotspot and 3G 10Mbps connection on tmobile uk for £12 a month unlimited

i only actually have to spend £22 a month tops, and have a faster connection then most landlines, downloads are really 10Mbps and come down at 980KBs

theres are no other apps to use or worth bothering with in the app store, the web browser is just opera, and to use it you need a wifi keyboard with touchpad, the mouse takes 20 minutes using the remote control arrows to go from top to bottom of 1080p screen

The problem with relying on self downloaded content is you have to preempt what you're going to watch, netflix/amazon/kodi/etc presents you with instant choices and categories.

My setup is Netgear NAS server, a 20tb unRAID os server, a blu ray player (dusty and hasn't been used in 5 years) going through a Samsung 8000 series Smart TV.

I've never had experience with any other Smart TV's so I have no basis of comparison with other manufactures but I have used the Samsung extensively over the last 2 years, always with the latest firmware.

The main differences between the Amazon Firestick and the Smart TV's built in functions are as follows:

1) Speed
The Fire is noticeably quicker at navigating through menus, loading/switching between applications and loading videos both offline or online.

2) Quality
Using the Smart TV' to play larger (2gb+) video files off the NAS/unRAID server causes occasional stutter in both audio and video whereas the Fire streams perfectly.

3) Expansion
The Fire has much more scope for expansion as there is a huge library of official and unofficial apps whereas the Smart TV is mostly limited to crappy Samsung approved ones. For example (and relevant to this thread) the Twitch application which can be added to the Smart TV is absolutely crap, stops working completely for weeks on end when the dev's have to reprogram it when Twitch change server urls etc and when it does work (atm mine has no sound) lacks basic functionalities such as being able to view chat. The fire version is infinitely superior.

I've owned several streaming devices before and prior to purchasing the Fire was skeptical as to whether I'd use any of the same apps I already have on my Smart TV (youtube, streaming local network videos etc) but for the above reasons I've found myself using it exclusively.

For the money it's great value and at the very least a simple solution for watching Twitch or streaming content illegally through Kodi if you don't have a file server at home.

the local quality does'nt pass through youtube transcoding though, put the encoding level back to 3.1 and try it, and update the preset to save it off in handbrake

if the mp4's don't work on your TV and bluray player, set the encoder tune to zero latency and encoder profile to main in the video settings tab and they should work
