It might not be "dead" but the rate of new players coming in has effectively been zero for a while. I would call it stale.

Definitely more quiet atm. I blame summertime rather than QC though.

You're right. As I was running plenty of tournaments and leagues in Q3/QL I observed it clearly. Once I decided to to never overlap a league with summer break and always started new league around October. Most of the people where coming back to Quake around this time in year and kept playing hard for like 3-5 months.
