It is kind of a bad sign for the future of Quake Champions that the n+1 something players and teams have not been picked up by organizations already, especially as the Quakecon thingy has been announced.

Well in comparison to other titles that have come out during the last ... decade, QC is kind of slow to take of.
Didn't a lot of major teams pick up full teams in Overwatch so they could play 100 dollar online matches for half a year?

For your reference, Overwatch released May 24, 2016.

Generally, players are signed up after their showing at a major tournament, not after a tournament announcement.

seems weird to sign for organisation right before quakecon, as all expenses will be covered by id/bethesda and organisations normally take % of winnings.

hopefully he doesn't have that kind of contract, or at least qcon is excluded.

even I had a contract for a while where I didn't have to pay anything (not in any case) yet stuff got paid for me.
Atm I even play in a team for fun which offered me a similar deal for specific lan tourneys (aka they pay expenses I go and play under their name, which I didn't do yet).

I don't see why better players than myself shouldn't get a similar deal + salary. Although tbh I would prefer a stable salary over occasional prize money. (also reduces lan stress due to money being on the line)

Would be cool to see some Weird action in this new weird(lowercased) game we have now ;)

On the long term I do prefer QC to other games... (even though they made so many bad decisions up till now, it's still a reasonably skilled FPS game that has a duel mode)
Unfortunately I kinda 'have to' wait until the memory bug is fixed... as tbh during a single long map people start to warp.... and I don't plan on buying a new pc just to solve their inability to write software.

Regular people do not understand anything about game development m8.
Now I do not really approve of how they made the QC netcode (as I am a firm disbeliever in unlagged crap and would prefer extrapolation over interpolation for hitregistration any day) but it is much more logical than QL's netcode ever was.
QC just has a lot of other issues which I assume would be caused by the memory leaks and or possibly badly setup servers which is a result of the FPS based sending of (too much) information. Which many people attribute to netcode, while it has little to do with that.

It doesn't matter what category you file it under, netcode or whatever; sending 250 bytes per frame (what used to be even more) is just plain inefficient. There are probably similar inefficiencies in the servers, causing them to choke frequently.

Warp was probably the biggest problem QL had, and it is back in QC just much worse. You should try the AU servers some time. :D

In general the reasons are different though... Although unlagged will pretty much always have people who intentionally fuck up their internet to gain an unfair advantage imho.
The main reason why QC is laggy is just a result of programming mistakes/bad choices.
Main reason QL is laggy as hell is because players gain huge advantages by lagging like hell and will thus even play on wifi connections just to be able to win maps.

What makes you think that's not the case in QC?

People can warp just as hard in QC by fucking up their internet. But they don't have to because everything besides their PC is already causing them to warp as hard as hell.

As far as I've seen it appears to be the case that if you fuck up your own connection the opponents also start to warp quite heavily in QC or their hitbox starts to 'float around the model' (for a large part this can be attribute to programming).
In QL however this was hardly the case. Therefor it will pay off less to do so in QC than it did in QL.

Not to say that the problem is non existent, as like I said unlagged will always have people who intentionally fuck up their inet.

Whether they are doing it on purpose or not, it is very annoying. Some people are using 3g/4g here because it is the only way they can get a connection that can handle the game.

QC just feels like all the problems of QL on steroids. :D

You can get shot eons behind cover, have a rocket explode next to you and die a second later, get killed by gauntlet from a mile away, have someone with their back to you shooting a rocket away from you put that rocket up your backside, etc. :D

I don't really see a reason why a bigger org with bigger agreements should take (part of the) winnings from their players....
The better they do the more exposure their sponsors get and the more they are willing to pay to sponsor the team.....

If the organizations are a tiny bit smart they will base their regular organization on fixed long term incomes rather than anything else.

Because they're greedy and take advantage of the fact they're signing young players that will cave to almost whatever to live their dream.

Cypher is a national treasure of Belarus!

He's not one of the best Quake players, he's one of the best Quakelive players. Quakeworld and Quake 2 are on a much higher skill plain than Quakelive.

Quake 3, Quakelive, Quake 4 and now Quake Champions... being at the very top of 4 out of the 6 Quake games doesn't sound so bad and would qualify him as one of the 'Greatest Quake players ever'

Furthermore, Quake 3 / Quake Live lasted so long compared to Q2 / QW in terms of being the biggest deathmatch game.

That's because of 2 main reasons:

1. They were a lot easier, so they attracted the spoon-fed generation of that era.

2. There wasn't anything to compete with them for a long time besides Quake 4, which due to its design was demanding in terms of computer hardware, and also slightly more sophisticated than Quake 3/QL, putting the spoon-fed generation off having to learn anything more complicated than the basics.

I'm just saying, he was the best at the game that was around longer and was played by more people for longer.

Being good at the easiest Quakes in the series doesn't qualify him as one of the greatest Quake players ever.

Quake 3 was a big step down in skill from Quakeworld and Quake 2. It was very commercialised and dumb down, and it was designed that way. Things didn't get any better either with Quakelive. In fact, there has been a steady decline since Q3.

ql skill is light years ahead from qw's skill. With champs like anarki and sorlag and rl being OP in qc, qw players have a huge chance to prove me wrong. I mean it is like the game was designed for them with OP champions (anarki and sorlag) and weapons (rl) that suit them. The only thing that works against them is the rail. They have the near perfect conditions to show us their skill, but they won't, since the skill level has moved on to even higher levels than in qw, which is very logical.

also, I won one of qw's legends in QC. I really doubt that could do the same with any from the top of q3, q4 and ql (even though the game is more random than ql).

therefore, yes Cypher is idd one of the very top quake players of all time

it's my opinion and the one and only thing that I don't like with the champs aspect in qc. he is annoying to play against, boring to watch and brakes the game (it's quake, not chasing the rabbit).
