one of my best friends is the german oldschool player hausratte. he told me so many things about the game and how it was played 8v8 back in the days.
sadly i missed that game when i was young and sadly he never joined quake.
think he could have become very good at it instead of playing nubish world of warcraft all day
That was my big takeaway at the launch of TF2 - basically all the mobility and verticality was stripped out of the gameplay and map design in favor of flat maps and a cadence dictated by choke points and uber charges. I suspected at the time this was to better accommodate gamepad players, given that a big part of Valve's launch of Orange Box was attempting to break into the console market.
I'm trying to imagine playing a CTF map like Well (as it was in QWTF/TFC/Q3F) with an analog stick and still manage all the conc jumping and mid-air skeet shooting required. Granted that overall map design in TF2 has opened up a bit more since then, but the player mobility will never stack up to proper TF.
the first game that i ever played on LAN. network cable between neighboring houses, four people in each house. could yell at each other through the window. good times.
That's the game I miss the most, and the most advanced fps movement/trick/skill wise. I mean tricks when you're really playing the game objetives, not defrag...
Migrating from TFC I was quite disappointed with Quakelive when I realized that movement is not as big of a factor as I had hoped it would be. Turbo CA is fun though.
yo dude! a fair amount of very old school players (Wheaties, Shinok, and Doug from [TCK], akwid and heat/swk from Nx/TDA are still around so if you ever wanna shoot the shit about TFC and share some memories, hit me up! I'll get you the information to come hang out!

I would personally prefer some slick scout flag runs though, but that was some gud air rockets +) playing scout and spy in tfc is some of the most fun I've had in gaming
too bad they made tf2 a completely different game gameplay wise :/
