this is now a place for veterans, who played games that were more skillful and interesting than what is popular these days. I dont think my views are distorted on that because of nostalgia. If some quake vets beat some supposedly good overwatch team in their own game, I mean come on..
It's a bad sad that so many FPS players will never enjoy something equivalent to zooming around cpm3a in Quake CPM, or have interesting duels in Vq3 on ZTN or DM6, without all the horrible clutter and gimmicky crap. I guess Quake duel was always pretty niche, but the odds of something that allows for the expression of skill in a clean, tight game that is spectator friendly way without the clutter to become somewhat popular (at least to sustain a proper and a bit more non-niche competitive scene) are very small.
Only hope is for starcraft HD remake leading to some interesting matches to watch played by korean pros of old and new for the coming few years.
I'm hopeful for the Starcraft remake to get a gaming ladder going again in the EU. Starcraft 2 killed the remaining SC community and replaced it with shallow garbage.
That feel when Starcraft: Resmastered is atm getting 15k viewers on Twitch and atleast 10k on Afreeca. Meanwhile Quake Champions is having 30 viewers and Bethesda is throwing 1 million dollars on a dead in a couple of weeks.
people aren't committed to making a content for QC as they don't really love it? Seems that way a bit. Getting all negative feedback for Sacrifice does feel pointless.
I'm not necessarily talking about gaming content but the fact that there's nothing here to talk about anymore, regardless of topic. a dozen of people who had something meaningful to say here throughout the years, or defend a certain point of view with at least half of an argument are long gone. then came the trolls spamming shit everywhere along with the local clowns who actually managed to get some praise thanks to the fact that their pointless waste of oxygen and bandwith was the only thing happening here. the only thing they all did was raising the numbers, confusing some of the admins here into believing statistics show the site is "not dead". i joined up in 2002. and i've seen many generations of people walk through this site and trust me - this is extremely dead, even with ~500 people signing up for quake champions quals. it's abysmal.
what made this site great is the same thing that buried it in the end. it's the lack of filter. when you have the profiles of people to provide content of any sort, even if it's cheating, or hacking the site, it's something. when you don't it's just a river of pointless shit with autistic gimps using this website as their own toilet.
There IS censorship on this site, dunno where you got the opposite idea.
Ever seen the oceans of *nuked* posts? Where were you when Slasher was going full retard some months ago abusing his mod powers in threads critical to dumb features of quake champions?
Some comments get even removed without the nuking overlay.
Just cancelled by admins, like you never posted anything.
Happened to me in a thread where i posted negative stuff about lenovo. Comments straight cancelled.
There actually is even too much, considering that some of the greatest contributors of this site have been driven away trough years by excessive censorship and power-tripping asshole admins.
You got the illusion of a random "everything goes" forum just because a bunch of nerds spams the usual, lame stuff like rearranged word comments or identical comments in chain.
Or because an admin of the site started multiple alt accounts impersonating the charicature of a "black polish" ( aka doubly ridicolous subhuman for this site's admins) to keep the activity of the site up.

you're only a decade too late to try to tell me how stuff used to work around here.
the things you're mentioning happened years after esr entered a vegetative state. yeah, slasher shouldn't be relevant around here let alone protected and yeah, that's what happens when admin privileges were being handed out to people who shouldnt' have had them in the first place. (just like the one mentioned above)
none of these change the fact that the only thing happening around here is the new quake game, and the new quake game gets less coverage than an average ql fps cup with ~17 participants.
the pretty much religion surrounding quake3 + the people = esr. the people left and the game is long gone. i can't even force myself to give a fuck about what happens here today.
You just avoided the point. Apart from being triggered by misinterpreting the "impersonal you". (seriously, why do all posters that are here from some year so desperately need to flaunt their age? It's something unique to esr at that level, it's seriously amusing. I'd argue that's something that contributes to drive away people, but anyway:
Your point was that the supposed "lack of filter" killed esr.
That's not true at all, because esr is heavily censored- even reddit is much freerer than esr, ffs! Reddit, of all forums.
So it isn't the lack of censorship that drived aways the quality posters, who actually tends to enjoy as much freedom of expression and least admin interference as possible, everywhere. But it was probably the opposite: too much deleted stuff and passive aggressive bullshits and assorted assholery from power tripping admins like demiurge.
avoided what point exactly? esr didn't use to be heavily censored back in the day, noone gave a fuck and everything worked out. i don't remember anything being edited out or nuked without a solid reason. opinions were never edited, only raged insults and that's against the terms of use (i guess).
in the recent times there's a flood of bullshit around here which mostly gets a pass because if that gets deleted there would be a giant empty space. there's basically a handful of situations where the emotionally unstable admins decide to show authority, mostly in places where it wasn't needed in the first place.
the reason why the AGE is even mentioned is simply because you'd be perfectly aware of the fact I mentioned above if you were here back in the day. You weren't. And the esr you know is just an empty shell of something which was extremely alive for almost a decade. The profile of the people who had something relevant to say changed.
the main difference between me and you here is that you believe that nowadays admins prevent content with their behaviour. I say there isnt't any to begin with.
it's weird to hear i'm repeating stuff, cause i never said that the lack of censorship drove anyone away, censorship was never relevant. so you misread a couple of lines multiple times?
of course you replied an hour and a half after the ninja edit which came exactly a minute after the original post to edit a typo or two which makes you sound a bit lost.
But seriously, what's up exactly? There has been a ton of interesting and hylarious stuff going on recently, but there seem to be no activity even considering it's august.
The site has been the same for the past 4 years. Same design, same logo same everything. Zero effort lol. I don't think they even have a designer anymore.
What I'm really surprised is that I initially came here to troll and now it's like Stockholm syndrome - you guys got me. The fact that you guys put up with my shit and not ban me for my vulgar behavior. This place is my kind of society.
The main issue is that they don't get any money from this site. So it's more like a sunk cost. The website is worthless. They don't even have ad revenue.
So everyone is equally NOT worthless enough, for you to be talking to them on this website. Glad we could help.
As an aside, it would really help you to use your time efficiently if you prioritized conversations based on the context, or ignore anonymous useless blatantly uninterested in your honest reply.
I'm not trolling, if I was trolling I'd be trying to deceitful, but I keep showing you being wrong, in every comment, by being obviously logically right.
Yeah, you owned me from the moment you made up some arbitrary minimum number of users for a site to be alive that no one else knows up to the moment you claimed the effect of your replies was owning, as opposed to enlightenment. Well played sir, well plaid.
Yeah, twist3d logic, like considering yourself to be everyone who matters on all matters. Oh, who did you consult on your expert opinion, yourself? Oh boy, can't argue with that kind of nex1Level pw0nge.
Imagine a movie where it shows you 24 hours of some boring office clerk, waking up, eating breakfast, then sitting 8 hours at the computer, getting back home, watching some shit tv show with a couple of beers, and then going to sleep. The end.
The reason why they don't make movies like that is precisely one that eluded the creator of plusforward.
