Professional gamers and organisations should have enough mental capacity to know tournaments will be held all over the world and if they use a bit of initiative they could get different types of visa's to a accommodate certain circumstances.

It's not possible to get visa in Russia or Belarus in 1 month. Agent said that the slots in the embassy are available only from September! And you cannot receive visa before qualifiers, since you do not have tickets and invitation from organizers

We don't know all the information. May be he had slot already or used different embassy. In Ukraine it's easy to receive visa to USA, but in Russia or Belarus - not.

Agent in his interview said that he has no problems with the documents, but he checked 3 cities (Moskow, Saint-Petersburg, Ekaterinburg) and the first slot was for 30 of August!

Update: I received information, that Belarus citizen can do USA visa in Lithuania or Latvia. May be Clawz did it this way.

His point is cypher and his team had over 3 months to get the Visa. Quakecon dates were announced in early January and the tournament in early May. Instead they chose to only recently start the process, in late July for an event in late August, knowing very well this would hurt their chances. Same with cooller, both very much seasoned travellers.

That's their fault. Not id's, not zero4's, not Trump's. Adults are responsible for their decisions, so stop putting the blame on others.

I'd agree with you if it was someone like clawz, as in his case there's no certainty of qualifying, due to his age likely doesn't have the money to essentially gamble it by paying to get the Visa when he could or could not qualify, and doesn't have experience dealing with Visas to know they can take a while to ve issued. However, cypher is in the complete opposite situation. He missed the chance of 100k because of straight up lazyness, so well deserved if you ask me.

The Quake Champions 1 million dollar tournament was announced at E3 11th of June. you didnt notice the top players were ignoring QC and playing Overwatch, and then suddenly after the announcement switched to QC? As far as they knew Quakecon was gonna be another Quake Live 20k-dollar tournament in which case the top teams would hardly have bothered. I blame this on the ignorance of ID and the retardedness of the big dumb fat country called usa. Cypher is probably the biggest poster boy of Quake and possibly the only contender to Rapha, and now all of this is wasted. What a joke smh

note that list of invited players for previous quakecons was usually published around the time of announcement, which is like april or something

In Ukraine USA visa is valid for 10 years. If in Belarus rules are the same, then he probably visited USA many times with the same visa, which is now finished.

I think it means that they will sponsor a player that has already qualified (he will get payed and will wear their t-shirt, spread the name, represent them during interviews, etc...).

No, he's not going to quakecon, he cannot enter US territory at all according to the OP article. I'm not quite sure where you got that from, but my guess is you misunderstood the casting part. The casting is happening from some location in europe. (which I'm not quite sure they will manage to make happen, I doubt there will be any possibility to spectate the LAN games remotely, as in, actually join the ingame server)
