Physical fitness is a good thing - Go for a run and then play a game of quake, you'll see a massive difference in ability to time and make decisions.

Pro tip - More blood flow = Better brain operation due to increase in oxygen flow.

In a speech I saw by Jordan Peterson, he said one's IQ starts decreasing year by year after age 22-23. And the best way to maintain it according to him was to keep yourself physically fit.

Well the main reason as well, is the lack of ability to want to learn new things.

You build up dendrites, so when learning a new skill or anything, they start off very small, the more you do it the bigger and stronger they get, hence the ease that comes with doing certain things over and over again.

As we age, we tend to lose the interest in developing ourselves, physically and mentally.

Hence why, reading is imperative. Challenge your mind.

From a physical point of view. Cardio is important for your overall bodily function. Blood flow and oxygen. However lifting is where's it at.

So a good mixture of lifting, cardio and just brain simulation is important.

When it comes to quake, people who have been playing it for a little while basically have everything down to an auto-pilot sense. Mechanics down, mentally too. So we just need to learn new things. Be creative and keep sharp.

Lift, Run and learn new shit.

for men it can keep increasing up to 30, since our brains develop later than women.

from my personal tests what works best for the mind are:

- physical fitness
- perfect sleep. this is very hard to achieve, because u need to sleep not too little, but also not too much and to sleep deep and if possible to wake up alone and not by an interruption in the middle of a dream.
- reading books, has a small positive effect
- playing chess. blitz helps u think faster and classical helps u think better and has a positive effect in memory and speech.

bad eating and drinking habits have a negative effect, but not permanent. if u sleep very little for a long period (which I did), then ur memory deteriorates permanently.

an under performing or sleepy mind can be advantageous in some activities, even in quake. I am not sure why, but most probably because it is easier to focus and not thinking too much. a sleepy or under performing mind in blitz chess is catastrophic.
