There was nothing wrong with the seeding system, it was the fairest way they could do it for a completely open tournament. Taking results from a weekly $50 community funded tournament would be pointless and a huge mistake. Inviting players to bypass the qualifiers would provide less chance for players like RAISY to make it through. The only embarrassing part was their pre-recorded livestream draw for the round of 16 matches.

I'm not going to comment on the rest as I don't know the internal flow of information and/or documents. I just know that that the event is happening regardless and I'll watch some of the games. I'm looking forward to their talent announcement too and I hope they utilise some of the on-site players for commentary and analysis at QuakeCon - the latter was sorely lacking at the EU regional finals.

It's Quake, support the game. Yes the situation with Agent sucks but the largest obstacle is outside of idsoftware and bethesda's control. Even if they do absolutely everything they possibly can and by the book, a visa can still be denied and time can run out because ultimately, it's in the players hands and control of another party.

Seeding type should be announced before the first qualy match is played. Pre recorded draw is super shaddy, i dont have proof they did 10 draws till they got cooller vs evil and av3k vs cant remember... But people defending id also dont have proof they did it just one time.

I have been a huge quake supporter through the years, not only playing and promoting but subscribing to channels, donating money to cups and streamers, etc. But there has been many really stupid decisions about QC, gameplay wise, raising NDA way too fast, not caring about SouthAmerica community with a super crappy Brazilian server that made a very active community die, and these latest issues about Quakecon spots was what did it to me.

The whole structure of the qualifiers was awful. It is difficult to do seedings for a tournament when the game is so new. But there are lots of other ways around that, like group stages, triple elimination, swiss rounds etc.

I do think RO16 should have started with Swiss too! :)

No, it's not the largest obstacle. If the documents are filled right, then it's much smaller chance that visa is denied. Yes, there are still some things that id cannot influence, but what they did is guaranteed a visa deny by their actions, so any outside factors are not even involved here.

That was totally cyphers own fault. The whole 'regionals should have been played earlier' doesn't hold water, as one of the best quaker was sure to qualify more or less 90% anyways. He could have applied for visa weeks not to mention months in advance long before regionals, if the issue here was too little time.

I've done so for years through all the bad games. Taking a stand this time around. Quake Champs is horseshit through and through. Not getting any of my dollars.

Apparently it has something to do with the political tensions between Russia and the US. I mean, obviously is still possible for Russian people to get an american visa but, evidently, it just takes so much time to do it, and neither Cypher or agent started the process on time.

Agent, according to some users, makes a living out of some sort of gambling, which could present a fair amount of problems in regard of the information you have to give out for the interview at the embassy, plus being all by himself without any sort of backup, he’s just pretty much all around fucked up.

Cypher, in the other hand, has the gaming organization Virtus pro behind him, but for the look of it that wasn’t of much help, because: 1) he got some kind of bad record visiting the US it seems, since after so many years of entering the country, last year when traveling for some shitty OW tournament he got entry denied at the airport and immediately sent back without any explanation, and 2) it’s just another Russian organization after all (makes me wonder, if it’s really true that Cypher considered this scenario beforehand when making the deal with Virtus pro, then why sign with them? why not an american gaming organization instead? they prolly could have helped him better in this case)

So with all this both players were literally up to the neck in shit, and their last resort was pretty much any sort of help they could get from id / Bethesda (an american organization), some kind of letter or w/e, since when giving out the tournament information id first announced that they were covering all the cost of the players trip, so they were expecting some kind of proof documents like tickets, hotel reservations, flight itinerary or whatever shit that could have helped them, unfortunately, id’s plans and not very clear / specific info was not meant to work that way, and they didn’t get the kind of backup they were expecting, so they’re out. This is why you see a lot of people hating on the organization, the tournament, zero4, Tim Willits, and so on. IMO that’s just childish, and while I agree that all of them do a shitty job at best and definitely could be a lot (or MILES) better than what we see, this isn’t particularly their fault and they didn’t set up this whole scenario for both players. (for instance, see Cypher, who is pretty much remaining stoic about the situation and isn’t moaning and blaming id / Bethesda / Qcon organization for everything, instead, he’s just hungry for the next opportunity that shows up)

I'm not sure how much of it is about politics specific to russia as opposed to the US's general stance on immigration. Though I guess people from other countries didn't have nearly as much difficulty getting a visa...

edit: There literally was a news announcement on our national radio just now saying that the US isn't handing out any visas to Russians until at least september, apparently because a number of diplomats left the country or something to that accord. Any russians who want a visa need to go to moscow to get it.

Cypher got signed by VP end of June (or that's when the news came out). Supposedly the decision to go to quakecon was made only shortly before that. Probably they were simply too late with initiating the process. Plus they didn't have confirmation that he can actually participate till 3rd of august, which clearly didn't help matters.

All of which could have been avoided had cypher applied for a Visa in May (tournament announcement day) and not in July (one month before the event).

Evil and cooller are going. How come they can pull it off, but cypher can't? They aren't in an American team, they didn't need to get invitations.

To put an end to all this drama, in a country where there's no ESTA so you have to go through all the process in the Embassy, which takes months to do as you have to schedule an interview to be held in person, then who's at fault for applying way too late, other than cypher's? He knows about all this and he knows he had to especially deal with this, since last time he was rejected in the US (playing OW), but chose to not deal with the issue, for months.
