Just incase you consider QL a Q3 remake, that's false. It's more appropriate to call it a reboot. They didn't remake anything, for all intents and purposes it's the same game.

Calling ql a reboot is too flattering. It was simply a re-release, or a remaster if u want to be magnanimous and consider browser platform and bloom as huge improvements.

what i'm saying is that they did what the public wanted. we had quake4 and it was crap cause it wasn't quake3. then we had quake live, which is basically the same thing, esl picked up the game, it had a huge amount of lan tournaments, and it still died. sponsors didn't care, viewership was abysmal. didn't work. so you won't be seeing something similar again.

now they are trying something else, and they are putting the money into something new. whether or not you like it, it's different, cause listening to the "public" gave em shit before and they don't need to spend money kicking a dead horse just for you couple of nostalgic people unwilling to let go. if you think it's so terrible, check out the numbers and the names in the signup lists for the recent tournaments.

Are you implying Q4 and/or QL were catered to us? I don't remember the public wanting a single player quake, nor q3 in a browser. One thing that should be evident is that id was never able to produce good games, but merely good engines. It was always the community that molded those into the game it should've been. Their games failed because they could never see or hear what the public actually wanted. And what the public always wanted was a fun game. The sad truth for many people here is that q3/ql simply are not that fun. They are dumbed down in a way that takes away skill and fun. Now what id is doing now is much better as they are still clueless to game design but they're copying the successful competitors. The problem is they're still oblivious as to what is good game design and they've wound up with the casual portion of the game which is first person rock-paper-scissors. They are still clueless as to what makes a successful esport game with depth and longevity. And looking at their decisions I doubt they will stumble upon the correct formula by chance.

And what did you want me to see in the sign-ups? I see quakecon's sign-ups - 3-4 americans which I do not know, the rest of 'em are the usual suspects - you know, the same people who played q4 too.

Yes, i'm absolutely implying ql was catered to us because it followed quake4, which was a decent game to say the least, and it never got the chance. So what if it had singleplayer? so did the original quake game, didn't take anything away from the experience. There is no difference whatsoever between quakelive and quake3. The same players who were the best at quake 3 were the best at quakelive, and were the best from the get go because it's the same fucking thing. some finesse here and there is pretty much irrelevant looking at the big picture.

quakelive was not a failure from the beginning, quakelive is the quake title with the biggest amount of professional lan tournaments within a year or two (ESL tournaments + quakecon and dreamhacks together with others ) and it didn't help the game become big. it got the chance, it didn't make it. sounds good - doesn't work. if the game is not popular enough, there is no money. if there's no money, there's no reason for the developer to put any effort into it. it's not like ladders or whatever would have helped quakelive, it's an outdated deathmatch game and vast majority of people moved on. i'm not talking about core skill or whatever, i'm talking about the audience. that's what matters. empty venues and 2400 people on stream is irrelevant. that's a dead game.

the reason why i'm very positive about this game is that it's not trying to do the thing which clearly doesn't work anymore. classic scoreboard deathmatch with everyone doing pretty much the same thing is gone. i mean, if i can see it how it is why can't you? it's been around for ages and it was mostly life support. idsoft is trying to bring something new and SEE if it's gonna work or not. and even if it doesn't, there's gonna be a lot of room for improvement. maybe it's gonna be a total disaster (i don't think it will but still) but at least they have a new basis for building something potentionally good. and maybe "good" will become "very good" within a year or two.

what i don't like is the million dollar tournament with absymal logistics, and i believe 4 x 250k tournaments would have been a perfect start. we don't need a million dollar tournament, the biggest ever was 40k for the first place and that was back in 2000.

To me the new doom is proof that what you're thinking about classic deathmatch is false. What I can agree on is that DUEL is the thing that doesn't work. And it is the direction id is choosing this time(I can't say if they had any part in duel being the staple of quake at the time or if the lack of players at the time made it the staple). As to ql's lack of success I can only reiterate - none of us wanted a q3 in a browser. It was just a gimmick - and not one that could result in any growth like skins for instance. Is anyone really surprised that the masses didn't show interest in a repackaged fossil with no new features? Had it had matchmaking I think it would've done better but still marginally so if the focus wasn't switched away from duel. I think CSGO speaks clearly to that effect. It is repackaged, it is a fossil. But it has matchmaking, it has skins, it's a team game.

And yeah, I agree with you that this game has more potential than a Q3 remake(stop fucking putting me in that camp, I think I've made my disdain for vq3 clear as day throughout my years of posting, I don't think CPM is the pinnacle either for that matter). The problem with all this potential is that by looking at the decisions of this developer is that whatever they happen to make right is pure luck. And I doubt they are gonna luck their way through the competition.

Tbh I loved QL from the start, it was what I needed. And still is.

i agree with the bigger chunk or your post. cs is an objective based game and i don't think it needed to change in the first place - a new engine is all it needed together with the skins market and they were good to go. it's not just like 5 people shooting 5 people, csgo is a lot of strategy and teamplay and i personally despised cs back in early 2000s. q3/ql kind of hit the wall there.

with all the negativity surrounding qc, i still enjoyed pretty much all of the duels i've seen, and some of the moments make me think they are on the correct path. it succeeded in bringing in people from different sides of the fps genre (vq3, cpm, ut) and there are some new faces learning fast and giving the old guys a run for their money. for me, that's promising.

on the other hand the "esport mod" i find to be extremely chaotic, hard to spectate and not entirely welcoming for the new players. it's just people dying one after the other with camera changing frantically so i've mostly struggling to realize who i'm spectating in the first place. i've played q3/ql for more then a decade and this doesn't look promising from the start. then again, maybe it's the production being crap and needing time to learn how to cast and do the camwork.

We can also compare it with a new game made from scratch by three random aussies who had orders of magnitude less ressources at their disposal and still did a better job. We can lament the sad fact that reflex is almost a carbon-copy of cpm as long as we want, there's no question as to which of the two games is the higher-quality competitive FPS.

reflex is nothing special, it's not a groundbreaking achievement, it's just a polished modern version of a game that exists since pretty much forever.

Rail feels a bit snappier, hard to tell about the LG, always felt kinda good imo. The problem is visibility which doesn't exactly improve when you turn on the LG. Changed to the QCon LG but that beam only made it worse for me:) Though the enemy outlinings are deffo much clearer/thicker/brigther now.

I find it hard to see the enemies on blyad run. Other than that, it'll get there hopefully.

I hope they introduce teamskins for ctf atleast. Can't even imagine playing ctf while having to look really hard on players to know whether to shoot or not.

Well, yesterday I was a bit disappointed...
After installing the game, i played some rounds and the game didnt feel so smooth like on cbt13. Also the loading times and waiting for the matchmaking didnt feel so good like in the last patch.

Cbt13 was really smooth as fuck. But besides the micro stuttering in the EA yesterday, i could really feel some improvement of the hit registration.
In my first match, i was able to hit a double air rocket. I think i never managed that in qc before.
Also my rail acc went up pretty high. I had 63 % in my first dm, where all other enemy players were ranger.

What I like is the art work. I really enjoy the new maps and all the stuff you can unlock, Most of things look really amazing and hit my taste.

Today I only played 1 match and I was surprised cause the game run super smooth again. I dont know if the stuttering had something to do with the server issues they had yesterday. Also my client was able to join that match pretty quick again. I had a looking for match time with 40 secs or something.

Currently the server are offline for a hotfix, so i couldnt continue testing. I hope they come back soon, so I can play some more rounds before going to bed.

What is your experience so far?

There were some new drivers released by nvidia that optimizes the game a bit better, seems to be a lot smoother - Mouse actually feels like it is reacting correctly.

Hit boxes are not too bad, still no idea how people say they can't hit shit (40% +- on the smaller champs with rail.)

LG seems to stick like you can't believe.

Rockets have a nice satisfying pop to it when you two shot someone with it lol.

So far it's not too bad.

oh yeah, forgot to add, the loading times are rapid for me, not sure if it's because I'm running to SSD's in raid 0 but eh w/e's

Not bad. Gameplay is much more responsive and fluid but still not flawless. I can at least rj with ease. Weapons work well enough. Only issue I have is there's very little in the way of actual content: maps, game modes, teamplay. What's fresh can only keep me interested for so long, when all I actually want is all the content the previous quake games had. Ctf would be wonderful at this point but I doubt it'd save quake.

Destroys all of the negativity and perception of what the game would be like at the E3 announcement last year. I have been testing since the first CBT 1 test and playing non-stop. Played in the NA sacrifice qualifiers and will be attending quakecon. Currently ranked third in NA for ESL duel ladder - I have put a ton of time into Quake Champion literally non stop for over 4 months. I bought the darn DXRACER Quake Edtion chair that just came out.

This is Quake for the modern era but more importantly this is Quake.

Get it in Early Access - it's worth the 29.99 and then some. If you want to wait for the release and play F2P that is fine, just know you will have quite a bit of grinding for champion unlocks or using in game / real currency for said unlocks.

Replayability with this update is insane thanks to finding lore for each character around maps along with runes within backpacks that are rune trials which lead to special shaders and eventually a master skin for each character and master shader, avatar and nameplate.

Passed the wow factor of discovering the new skins & co, my crappy internet cant handle the upload rate QC demands.
I just asked a refund, it was a mistake to purchase EA in the first place.
I'd rather re-purchase the game full price when I know I can play in good conditions.

Having the cosmetics & the crappy challenges fully functional while the game itself isn't is fucking infuriating.

Guess it is difficult if things aren't 100% right now.

lg/mg - feels pretty good
Rail - doesnt make sense, my guess its server side and/or its my ping but the shots seem to not make sense at times
RL - feels like its from a completly different game, maybe its slower than ql or its the animation that makes it feel weird I donno
Maps - are cool looking, I get caught out a lot though. Im use to simpler maps where I can pre aim angles, I might need to up my sensitivity.
Nyx - is annoying

I had beta but didnt play it, so its still fresh to me. Been playing deathmatch and feels a little faster than ql ffa. Could be cause I dont know whats going on lol. I want bots to shoot at :(

Yeah, bots would be fun to lol around with.

some weapons do feel a bit strange but I guess it'll grow in time.

It's a good game, still has its bugs but I'm hopefull that they'll sort them out.

in this latest build my mouse actually registers like it should (the insane accel I was getting is gone)... so it's almost playable (at least I can hit most people now).
The sound system is really crap though.
Also sometimes hits just don't register for a couple of seconds and then it suddenly jumps back to normal?
Also it's strange that the nailgun seems to be lagged while the rocket launcher has an unlagged feel to it... While of course both should be lagged.
And some players just warp like mad which destroys the game :(.
