Tim Willits are a big supporter of Quake, and always has been, only one of the "originals" that is left and still works towards making quake great.

Yes he does some things that many would agree he should not have done, but that does not take away the fact that he does deserve some credit and praise for what he have done and is doing.

Ya`all gotta remember QC is a business gamble , and how much would anyone personally gamble on Quake beeing highly successfull?

I would personally hire a cheap crew, and slap em with a whip until the product is fairly good . Because i know the money potential in the game is nothing compared to a triple A game , not much options there .

And another note, Tim is himself only a worker , he is not a final boss at all . Seen the live streams , where they take questions ? Several people behind camera that dictates what he can and can not say\do .

Today best games possible will only be created by someone that has nothing to loose, doing it as a hobby, only they can make risks and spend as much time as they would like on the product .

While I understand what you are saying "business gamble" and all that I have to disagree.

They (as a company "id") have approached this from the entirely wrong angle.

You have to remeber what a doom/quake game is. Its meant to be a techncal marvel of brlilliance. Something like the original Crysis game that every person must own for testing out their powerful rig and fancy gfx card. Its meant to be the pinical of video game tech.

Doom 1 and 2 were far beyond anything of their time
Quake 1 again far beyond its time
Quake 3 atleast gameplay wise, and possible gfx wise is far beyond its time
Doom3 was a tech demo, again with gfx arguable beyond its time (except for the other games which basically used the same level of tech like Farcry1 or HL2)
Quake4 missed the mark (outsorced to Raven) and a similar story with Rage but atlest they hyped that properly

And then Doom4 which you could again argue has sold well due to the kinds of 95% ratings it gets on reviews in the gfx department.

All the needed to do with new Quake was deleiver the high tech gfx that would make a 1080gtx have a seizure (because its high detail, not because its bad optimised as is the current case), put in the proper quake gameplay (as they have somewhat done) and hype the shit out of it as that benchmark/game of the year and they would likely have the top selling game of the year. It worked for doom4.

But instead they cheaped out. sabre engine, 2010 level gfx and the result is a game nobody outside of old quake players will ever care about. Whoever is in charge should be sacked for essentially losing them millions $ in sales because lets face it anybody with half a clue can understand this concept.
