Indeed. In my opinion, a very good compromise could be a system similar to the ServeMe from the QuakeWorld community.

For those who don't know about it, it is a fakeclient(bot) connected to all the servers that support it, and that is able to broadcast messages to and from IRC to all the servers where the bot is in.

So, for example, if you're in a server, alone, looking for a 1vs1 game you only had to say this in the chat where serverme was here : ".qw 1vs1 on dm4 anyone?" and then, the said message would be broadcasted on all other servers, on IRC with the registered channels, and on QuakeWorld community's Discord.

It would also provide information about the broadcaster (ip of the server) and ezQuake client (and other ones I think) has a command to directly connect to the last IP that has been written in text.

So, while the playerbase is small, you can actually get pretty easily games going in QW, from 1v1 to 2v2, to even 4v4 and other stuff.

Unfortunately, there are many more European players than from other regions, so this kind of works well in EU only..

Maybe a system like this in QL could do the trick and make people able to get games going very fast without manually joining servers, asking people on steam irc discord etc.....

We had this for a while in Australia. Most people only played CA and found it annoying so it for removed.

Of course I agree, but still if I'm able to find player for a duel manually why wouldn't I achieve the same with MM software? I mean assuming that everyone uses it which can only be possible if iD software integrates it into the game (never gonna happen). I don't care if I have to wait 5 or 10 minutes to find a match. It's still better than refreshing game browser every 15sec or waiting on the server.

Same stands for TDM pickup. This kind of app could easily replace the way it's done so far using text based bot.

Summing up I just think that the small player base is 2nd major problem in this case.

The best way for a small community is to create a mailing list for interested partners in duel, tdm etc.

or just a whatsapp group which I think is fairly used already.
