Pretty much they'd always probate me eventually.

I now go by cxe and I was gone for 4 years, came back to CPMA in Q4 of 2016 and been getting in and out of love with that community sense. Dabbled in Defrag. And all those years I read esreality and posted maybe 10-20 total anon comments even when I wasn't playing any video games.

So I guess I've become a perpetual reader of quake and not so much a player of it, mostly a lurker. I still get excited watching the talented players each Quakecon and the QuakeWorld tournies that happen on LAN every 4 years or so. Anyway, don't worry about me, I'm doing great.

I'm curious what G.I. Jonesy is doing and p0rt. Jamerio is boring to me since 2011-2012 I totally got over my obsession with him (now I just feel bad for him). I think he was more fun when Vedic was around.

I never did find out who Vedic was, he'd always tell me to play QuakeWorld and CPMA and I grew up to realize he was right, those two games are the best ever. He lived somewhere in IL state if I remember correctly and I don't think I ever saw him in #qwcentral or #uscpmpickup or anyone with his name or catchisms play. I guess he was nostalgic about games that are actually decent.

Too many to name tbh. So just want to give a shoutout to the people posting Quake related content/news on frontpage, people hosting cups and people casting them. It's the source of all discussion and classic threads and/or replies. So a big thanks to them and the people who moderate/maintain this website for allowing the authentic ESR atmosphere.

Then we have people like memento mori, torzelan, teen queen, megaman, T1E, Fizzle, Ika, Heartless, Jamerio (and many others) that bring/brought the lulzzzz.

People like injex, p0rt, Rauvz, bst and other techy/geeky people supplying us with rather exclusive and in depth information about math and cfg tweaking and hardware related stuff. Learnt a lot from these folks.

We have had the pro's join the drama and contribute/discuss topics with us that was pretty $$$.

Forgetting a lot of people worthy of mention, but this place remains gold, no matter what people say about it; no matter if I do or do not play Quake, I keep coming back and it never dissapoints me. Lots of brilliant and bright people in this place, even though lots of them have some ambivalence in their character, all the better for creating a raw and (dis)honest vibe around this place.

So thumbs up to everyone.

I still don't know if he was trolling or really that much insane. Like, clinically insane. His posts were even unsettling in how complex and articulated his absurd theories about being the strongest quake 4 player ever went. The "hand of Dao" teachings, the percentages of performance, the convoluted strats with no sense whatsoever.

I have one "oddly-specific" memory of us playing FFA and a guy named heartless chatting with us, giving advice. Through all these years I wondered if he was the same Heartless that hangs around ESR... but yeah, it's been a long time, I hold those memories very warmly in my heart. Never had as much fun playing quake as I did back then. :')

I started my first quake in 2009. I must have been 15 or 16 years old. But I lied about my age and said I was like 17 or 18 (so people would respect me lol).

Quake live man... I didn't know how to strafe jump.

Who I miss, all the guys who made it happen for me man:

Yeah I was really bad and didn't know how to strafe but raythenoob and MateFeedKill took me in. I was on ventrilo with MateFeedKill, MoRpHaZe and dark (the dutch guy! never forgetting you pal), on a daily basis. People say a lot of bad stuff about ray but when I was a kid in high school, he had forums with a decent community of new players, we could play our tier 2 tier 1 games and ray would even set up competitions. I was bad at playing but I was ambitious so i asked him to put me in the duel group but I said I'd play some CTF too. So I was one of the five duelers. one of them was really decent at the time, vanskater, and then we had TR1N1ty who turned out to be a hacker and FuzzyBritches who was really good (aka Spyder). I was learning a lot and having a lot of fun and ray organized clan matches and we'd all hop into a CTF game together.

Morphaze was really funny and my best friend of all was MFK. I wish I stayed in contact with him. I fell in and out of love once the game disbanded and I made a new nickname and never really saw him again except that one time we spoke on a race server in 2012...

All of these people were really normal and really kind.

Fast forward just 2 years later or so, morphaze gets into a huge drama with raythenoob and gotti and I want to stay friends with him but he caused PiP to sort of disband as well. He goes by DJKantankerous now and he really seems to hate our guys and is playing with GSI or some other clan. raythenoob is the only one left in PiP and MateFeedKill (i somehow lose touch with him). And we all know unfortunately waht happened with ray, he got banned from esreality and from here.

One thing I will say, I will never disrespect or say a bad hing about him. He helped me get 1-1.5 year of building myself in QL and finding friends (friends who I sort of lost) but that was the only time I really felt a brotherhood and like I was really part of a clan.

I can say a good thing. He has two good qualities: he cares. And he's persistent. I'd say he might even have a disability of some sort that makes him so persistent and I mean that in the nicest way possible.

He genuinely wanted to make Quake cheat free, tier slumming free, and his obsession with a certain someone (inc) (u) (bus) was fanatical. If I ever met him in real life I'd try to get him to see that he comes off too strong, he cares too much, and he pursues the trees so much he doesn't even see the forest. He's gotta see the forest (big picture).

ray, I hope you are doing well, I want to wish you good health, and I hope you've found peace in some form. I'm sad you sort of became this caricature of yourself but after the year 2011 I think you became too crazy but that passion is your strength.

Morphaze I wish you well as well, I hope you are still pursuing your radio station passion.

Vanskater keep dueling, keep killing man, I hope you still play.

And MFK, thanks for hanging out with me man, when I was a young and dumb kid, honestly I looked up to you and you were someone I wanted to be. My mom would even ask if it was you talking to me and she knew you on a first name basis as well. Anytime I'd play a game it would be with you (looking to hop into your CTF game and what not), I didn't really care too much about playing with ray or those other guys.

dark - you were dutch, you were the first person I'd really spoken to outside of america you kicked ass with 100 ping though I know how hard it was for you to play with us and I know you only played with us because there was no europeans ever in ventrilo and you had a lot of fun laughing and joking with us. I always loved having just you or just MFK in voice chat cause it'd never be awkward. Always fun.

I can't believe I used a Wireless microsoft mouse and had 9-15% accuracies. And I can't believe I had /sensitivity 40. I thought I'd be elite if I could play with a super high 1 inch sense. Lmao... and that time I launched stermys config and figured he probably played windowed so I told MFK I been playing windowed for like 2 months a little 800x600 box to shoot at.

Does anyone still play QL? I played since 2009 off and on, but now my PC is so old that Steam refuses to support me anymore, haha. Is QL still being played elsewhere besides on Steam? And what is all this about Discord? All I ever knew about them were they were like teamspeak and skype. What are they doing with QL?

There is a trick - install Lubuntu 18.04 and Steam. After that you can try to play QL via its emulator called Proton. And btw Lubuntu is a perfect OS for any outdated hardware.
