By the looks of it this game will be EOL end of this year. Good moment for Ika (yes this is a request) to start producing a proper 'Good bye Quake' video, blockbuster style. That's the only worthy thing looking out for at the moment Quake related imo.

I think it's still too early to tell what faith awaits, once they have fixed all major bugs (they are many) and lowered the minimum pc performance, fixed the netcode which should be soon and finally releasing it as free to play early 2019, we can see how dead it is.

The major tournaments are important commercial for QC as well and those deserve a frontpage spot on esr. But as qmau already said there is too little enthusiasm and most people here seem to just want it to die. I might be the only one but this gives little to no reason for me to visit esr at all these days.

Someone posted somewhere dota 2 had a very slow start with many bugs / unbalanced gameplay etc for a very long time. I don't know much at all about it so I can't confirm this is a simular case.

But the succsses QL had would not even been close if it wasn't f2p, even when they moved to Steam the game has now over 2,6m owners. As I said it's too early to tell but I think it's too early to count it out yet.

It sure sounds too good to be true, even the 1,4m players sounds oversaturated. But if I recall correctly it was free to play on steam over the slow transistion from standalone and that might have lured a lot of people in. Or maybe that was only for those who already had a QL account?

What's hard to know there? Dota 2's chart has no point below 75 000 players.

Point being Dota 2 was a bug fest from start and like Quake they relied on an old title hoping to gather the masses.

Then again Dota2 is the same game with better features and some gameplay improvements; there's little difference.
Dota community suffered these initial stages the same as the quake community would had the game been a better version of what they loved.

Maybe the problem isnt esr but rather qc being a bad product.

It is bad for now with so many broken game'features', I believe what makes most people stay away from it at this point is the high pc demands (combined with not so convincing graphics), and shitty unplayable netcode. Champions will be balanced and perfected over time, I don't think it should come to anyones surprise some champions gets favoured over others. When this is done and it goes f2p I don't see why people wouldn't step in.

I guess you will have to explain what makes qc a bad product, but I assume it's because not forceable enemycolors and capped movementspeed, and of course that it is a hero shooter?

This. I've been a member of ESR since 2003 and I don't remember the site ever feeling so pointless.

I mean, there's a new Quake that came out. Yes it's not perfect, there's still tons of bugs and issues to fix but it's still Quake, it's fun if you give it a chance, there's competition in which Quake legends are competing in, there's people streaming it, etc.
