Thought I would point out its actually harder to get the highest score when you lower the difficulty because the easier they are the slower they move. On the lowest setting they crouch everywhere lol. But ya its easy to get over 50 frags on ztn since there are only 9 spawn locations and a few set paths the bot follows.

Having said that I would like to see if anyone can do 60+ which is almost impossible.

I doubt it, his aim advantage isn't a big deal beacause bots are easy to hit, its more about speed and lucky spawns and knowing where the AI went.

The game physically won't allow much more than that.

The only two games I ever dumped serious time into was killer instict and super turbo.

I ended up being employed by the devs of killer instinct as a fighting game expert and wiped the floor with their experts.

And this is what happened when I played the winner of the world champs in super turbo. I pushed him to the limit, despite a massive break from games.[img1]

No I don't. I simply know how I would prgress if I played the same as top players. Its not really how much time you put into a game, but the conditions with how you play.

I didn't pick up quake until early 20's, gone are the days when I could finish school and play from 3:30 to midnight. Yet most of the good players did that with quake. Even Rapha took 8-10 years to get as good as he did.

There are no quick and cheerfull ways into quake, its a big investment and time is key factor. OFC its not as simple as time = success, but to say time isn't a key factor is just corrupt:/

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of players better than you.

You can start bragging once you actually beat someone worthwhile. As of now, your biggest accomplishment in Quake is beating Crash or Xaero.

I got 56 to 0 a few days ago and I only play quake with my clan about 2 or 3 hours a week.

You aren't even a tier 5 player. There are literally over a thousand players that would get a higher score than you.

I haven't played hardly any quake in 6 years. And I'm using a 60 hz tft with a mouse with no feet on. And I came late into the game.

Most of those players you're comparing me to are in the best shape of their lives and play often with a decent config. I'm at about 60% of my bility from 6 years ago, so I'm perfectly capable of raising my game in next to no time to the standard you talk about.

Stop trying to pretend this is my full potential.

2 or 3 (lets say 2.5) hours a week x 52 = 130 hours a year plus you keep in some kind of consistent shape and you were playing quake 3 before i even owned a pc, so and the best you can do is average 1.1 frags more than per minute despite my presnt form and the extra invsement you've made.

Gotta say, not impressed.

I can also play a lot better (60% lol what? I'm at like 40% of what I used to be) , as could a lot of people that only play casually. What evidence do you have that you would play better than them with more practise?

Coming late to a game is no excuse, I know guys that dominate me that have only been playing the game for a couple of years. (albeit with other FPS experience)

Anyway, you can't use this as a basis as being some super gamer. I do think you are an above average gamer, just beating a nightmare bot by 20 frags in an achievement, and getting over 40 in under 10 minutes is spectacular, but I don't personally think that above average is anything special.

I didn't see the extra stuff you tacked onto the end there. We both know that being twice as good doesn't equate to twice as many frags per minute. Also, 56 definitely isn't my upper limit, after playing a bit and seeing what you need to do to force the spawns, I think I can well over 60, maybe 70. (just need to stay top level, and force spawns between pg and rocket - maybe time mega)

I can get 40-60+ on most maps with some luck ofc. And certain bots yield more than others(depends what weapon they use, for they tend to go straight to that weapon), and looking through my old screenshots's I got 89 on house of decay but that map is silly.

I play ql bots a lot :)

Its not naive at all, you can tell if a player is good or not from how be plays against bots, you can measure movement, reaction speed, aim, all key factors which transfer against other humans to a certain degree.

If I give you a demo of am0kchen and one of (let's say) Juvenile, both playing a bot, abusing the spawn system and scoring 65-70 frags. Will you be able to tell who's who? I doubt it.

If I give you a demo of am0kchen and one of juvenile, both playing TDM. Will you be able to tell who's who? Most likely.

That's a pretty trivial example, but I hope you see how your theory of measuring skill by the performance against bots is falling apart. :)

Vo0 proved it was not the optimum tactic and all it will ever do is ensure a good, but far from best score. Proven by the fact that I got 56 on my first go using that technique, at the very least, amochicken has proven he has a pretty solid shaft (despite limited A.I. movement) and understands the concept of forcing spawns. But probably showed that overall that if he played like me and vo0 he would probably score significantly less thant 61 becuase other parts of his game (which are required vs humans) would not be as easy to accel at. Even if his opponents were better (despite them averaging 22 frags to his 50) I would say finishing two minutes quicker than a world class duel player 3 weeks before he won Intel Masters Europe is pretty impressive.

Okay, I just tried this a few times, and this is my best result. I must first start my 4-page essay by saying that I was on the phone all the time. Furthermore, my cats were constantly on my keyboard and mouse pad (I can make pictures to prove it!). So yeah, I am probably at around 60.1% of my actual skill level right now, given that I am inactive and all. I mean, 60.1% compared to my top level around 1 year ago.
Definitely not my full potential.
Also my left mouse button is broken and I had done quite some physical activity today which makes me not as good as I could be. My screen resolution felt really weird, probably because I am inactive and tired. Also my mouse pad is dirty and skips.
I must note I played the way this is MEANT to be played, according to the official rules and the honour that exists in beating Crash in a Nightmare 1v1 match.
I am not really committed to gaming anymore. As I am very busy in real life (again, I can post pictures to prove it!, because I feel insecure and need acknowledgement).
I am not sure if I already told you that I am inactive, but I am. Look at my QL profile to see. If I wasn't so busy right now I would make a screenshot, for proof, of my QL profile.
Anyway, I am inactive and would do MUCH better if I was actually active, had as much playtime as real top players, started the game earlier, had no cats, had no busy commitments, played with headphones on, was not on the phone, had a decent config.

best in the world is probably about 80.

Lol, you've been playing quake for 15 years and travelled all over the world doing so. Its only in the last few months you've dropped off the tournament scene. The fact that you got 65 frags and you're a cpm player which means you're probably one of the best positions to totting up a high a score in this challenge.

Also look at my original statement.

And you just happen to get 65 :).

This challenge will have a limit on it, so once you reach a certain level of skill, you're not going to do much more becuase as I said earlier, there is only so much you can physically score without obvious exploits which for the most part you did not do.

Yeah you missed some shots other pros would get and if you were in better shape, but you also got a triple frag with the plasma in about which got 3 kills in about 8 seconds with the plasma which made up for the added time where you made mistakes. So my statement of saying 65 or around there is bang on IMO.

Secondly, its people like you that whine at me every time I post a demo, if you didn't do that then I would not have to point out why I'm not doing aswell as I could.

So it has nothing to do with being insecure, it simply has to do with people being unaware of their behavior that causes the reaction :).

I'm sorry. as I said, I stopped playing bots years ago. I'm not going to start practicing 2 hours a day vs TankJr in Q3 (which I haven't played in years) just for the sake of some ESReality thread. I deliberately deleted those demos and screenshots a long time ago, because I'm sick of hanging onto old files just for the sake of it. for what? so I can prove to some guy on ESR that I beat TankJr by 130 on ztn? whatever.

I played TankJr EVERY DAY, as a routine, sort of like practicing Mario speedruns or something. I knew every spawn, every move the bot would make, and it would make those moves repeatedly. for instance, I could get about 10-15 spawn frags by forcing spawns at LG/lower YA/GL, standing near mega with LG. it's not very difficult once you master every possible outcome on that map, and anybody who has watched me playing ztn vs actual players knows that I have a pretty good grasp of how to play that map.

also, Ph4ntom had a popular demo of him getting about 154-0 vs Anarki on T4 back in the day. this is roughly the same order of frags, so we at least know it's possible by someone who's decent and plays bots all the time, which we both did.

you haven't raped anything, certainly not me. I said the best score would be around 65 and it was. Even the 69 (which is still around 65) was so obviously spawn abuse it would have been mid 50's without it.

As for the Sirlin page, that guy's whole game revolves around cheap characters, so it doesn't surprise me that's his view.

I play my games with some kind of code, cheap tactics don't last forever, so while you might get by on them with one version of the game, the second capcom or idsoftware take it out, you've become dependant on an unsustainable mechanic, which lowers your skill in the deepest sense.

Winning isn't always winning, and losing isn't always losing.

Yes but even then, abusing a bug or a flaw in the game doesn't make it right. All that does it give a player a false boost over the real score and make the challenge less fun spectate and play.
Spawn raping is one thing, flat out exploitation is something else.

But you're still making up your own little rules that are convenient for you / your argument. Spawn forcing or not, all of the better scores against bots will be because of abusing the bot's routes, priorities, lack of dodging and so on.

Basically EVERYTHING "to [this] degree" only works against bots. And? As kg said, as even you yourself said, this is a "contest" (not really, just some guy asking) against bots.

Fun fact: I didn't know how to force any spawns (can't even do that upper plasma+rail combo everyone does in real duels) and am so inexperienced at ztn that the two sittings I had doing this taught me a ton about the map. In the demo / your YouTube video I just went for more LG ammo after the first frag and noticed (and caught on to) the effect for literally the first time. If someone actually knows how to force spawns (and perhaps is better at ztn in general) they'd definitely get way more frags, and deserve the "high score" in this thread.

I will say I'd prefer it if spawn forcing wasn't possible, but it is. And in this case I'd rather take (and accept if others take) the Sirlin approach. The "I don't like this and that" approach is too flimsy.

There was a nice article about street fighters 2 or similar, which described a similar situation.

Some players would start abusing the lower light kick, while some others said it was clearly wrong, and kept playing with a set of unwritten rules. The result was the the fist group started exploring the game much more, abusing easy thing, and learning how to counter the abuse, ultimately pushing the limits of the game and becoming much better players. On the other hand the second group kept their unwritten rules, and never developed.

While the situation is different here, your attitude is not. Either you state your rules, and convince the others to obey them, or you play the challenge as it is.

Facts are not excuses, I already beat vo0 live on in stream in quake champs FFA on SEP 18th, a few weeks after he places second at the world champs, then there's this.

Don't matter who you are in the world, I can take game of FFA off you, unless you're busdriverx or toxic, but I'm starting to think slash is now in a league of her own in FFA, and I have no intention of playing her, anarki, nyx, sorlag.

If I played the cheap chars I would be better too, but I'm busy atm, I play a few hours a week now.

Solve the netcode, balance the game better and maybe I play more.

VoO was probably mocking the post you created after your keyboard failure at the ESR Invite. I�m sure even you agree that you went a little over the top on that one. So just laugh it off instead of getting defensive. We all have our pride and ego but you seem to be a bit more extreme when it comes to proving yourself on this website. It�s entertaining for us sure but it makes you vulnerable to flame battles as its very easy to trigger certain reactions from you. It only results in endless loops where you try to deflect the same type of attacks from others on what you did. The people change through the years but the arguments stay the same. I�m aware that you view this is as entertainment but it still comes across as compulsive. People around you might get the wrong impression because of this. I hope you also tone down certain jokes you occasionally make. You can be a funny guy, but certain shit you say isn�t amusing and I�m certain you know what I�m pointing at, so keep that shit out.

P.S. if the community of Esreality did a fundraiser to get you to a LAN tournament for the next big thing or perhaps Streetfighter. Would you go?

It's this cocky attitude of yours that got you caught up in these e-battles that you fight out. You try to elevate yourself above the rest of us when you claim that you succeeded in a field where the rest of us failed. But guess what you need to have aspiration first before you can fail and the truth of the matter is that gaming is only seen as hobby for the majority of the gamers on this site.

I�m interested in seeing actual work you done while working at Rare. Could you show us some cool stuff that you helped design? Or maybe a link to a company where we can see some nifty 3D work that you created.

Oh and that DarkPrince dude is quite hilarious. Takes me back to my younger years when I payed 75 pounds for Streetfighter II. Certain games were damn expensive back then.

I brought it into school on games day, charged people 10p a go and won 300-0.

I don't think gaming was a hobby for most on this site, maybe now when they realise nothing will come from it, and I don't need to elevate myself, BAFTA winning game designers are elevated by default over regular gamers, just as anyone who has done anything in a professional capacity.

Its just a lot of gamers are alone in their bedrooms and hide behind their computer, so they struggle with realities that other demographics do not.

I'm here to remind them of that.

Shit example, as the Special Olympics only has other disabled entrants in.

FFA is more like the 200m, its not as prestigious as the 100m, but you don't consistently beat or push top 16 quake con players in DUEL and SACRIFICE without being special :)
