Am not sure if cypher is even able to speak Belarusian fluently since people versed in it flock mostly to the countryside, the others well sticking to speaking Russian. As for evil, he obviously lacks the skill to externalize his inner self in a coherent manner even in Russian =)

Not exactly. As far as I can remember, the only and ever permanent thought which I could ever discern from evil's former interviews was that he woud play sometimes not well enough which would makte him lose this or that match. I'd never heard something quite analytical or at least giving praise to how others play. Not because evil is selfish or something, but rather because evil gets really stressed and autistic under interview conditions which prevents him from thinking in an open and relaxed manner.

Bur, since they're not buddies anymore with agent (clash of egos probably, dunno the exact reason), we won't have the pleasure.

As I wrote on youtube, in my opinion the fact that Rapha couldn't practice in Europe didn't advantage that much Evil.

On the contrary, if Evil played him more, he'd have beaten him.

By that logic, why was Rapha able to beat Evil without practicing against Evil?

not sure how much of a factor it would have been, but evil was playing sunday cups (nearly) every weekend, so there was plenty of vods that rapha could have watched when preparing for qcon or whatever, whereas there were few na cups during the same period

In my opinion Rapha is smarter on the short term. He's more analytical and able to deduct things.

Evil needs time to adapt to your style, but once he's done it you're done for. He has everything he needs to destroy you, starting with the aim that Rapha doesn't have.

Cept Evil lost to Rapha in quakelives last major final with 8 years of demos and potential play time to study dissect.

He's top 3 in the world, but I would take rapha and cypher game just above his if I could buy a quakelive brain.

If they played each other more the dynamic would have been different, they both would have developed in their match-up. You can't say Evil didn't have his share of chances to take down Rapha ;D

so are you saying that practicing with euro players including evil would give have rapha worse chances than practicing with the weaker NA playerbase?

I'm not saying that it's a fact that evil would beat rapha if they played more often, but it's not a far-fetched claim. Evil is the kind of player who needs time to adapt and figure out his opponent and when he does hes almost unbeatable. Just look at how he figured out the whole scene and then later he'd could only ever be challenged by unusual opponents like the newcomer clawz and cooler coming out of inactivity. They would upset him for a short time(a cup or 2), then he'd adapt and comfortably beat em again (of course there is agent too)

No one can ever prove the counterfactual (evil would've beaten rapha if he had more experience playing rapha). But even if that were true, rapha didn't need time to adapt to Evil's playstyle and because of that he won. Rapha was simply the better player. There's not much more to say than that.

EDIT: One additional thought. It may be that evil was hurt by the opponents he played with regularly. Habits are hard to break and I think evil had developed a few habits playing against EU-style duelers. Part of duel is psychological and I think evil had loads of confidence winning against the usual 125fps crowd. But rapha did not have the same fear (as everyone else who regularly lost to evil) and I think evil probably did not have the same confidence (going up against rapha on the big stage).

I'm not gonna argue that evil is a better player. They are different in how they study their opponents. Rapha watches demos and learns that way, evil plays someone 100 times and learns that way. Imo rapha and evil (and possibly agent) in the late stage of ql played ql/q3 at a level higher that anyone ever before. And the difference between em was so tiny that it produced one of the best finals ever

I think an argument that evil would learn how to beat rapha if they were practicing together is perfectly valid to make if both had similar practice otherwise.

But if rapha had very limited practice in general while evil did not, it's a seriously dubious thing to state.

I concur; Rapha (and DaHanG) were the best to watch so far: well-mannered, cool, calm, collected; with good language and rhetoric skills, providing in-depth, coherent answers, often to an extent of giving and contributing more than was originally asked.

I didn't enjoy winz' one that much; at first I thought that's probably because of his accent, but then I remembered watching Tim Willits some time ago when after his 50th "you know" I almost wished I could've got on stage and beat that crap out of fucking mongoloid.

sometimes, i don't even know a person's mannerisms until someone else points it out. then i can't stop noticing it.

Just had a good listen and j wish rapha would expand on some points like cooller making rapha miscalculate his stack, how do you do that to someone on purpose? And cooller stealing items without seeing each other, again how does someone do that?

Only way I can think of for the first one is cooller bluffing and being aggressive for s certain item/position when all the items are up and for the second one cooller is predicting when rapha is going to leave a major up when it is nearly synced so that he can deal dmg at the other major.
