It's pretty easy to grasp new shooters, it's just there's no challenge in the new shooters.

I picked up COD ww2 - Awesome game, within a day or two, 30+ kills easy peasy on average. So from a skill point of view, it's not really challenging.

When you look at a game like Quake, it's damn near perfection in regards to pushing yourself to getting better.
Just being slightly better than your opponent can sometimes make all the difference.

So your movement, map knowledge, weapon knowledge, positioning and all of the other things that make Quake, Quake need to be really well practiced. I used to spend hours on Defrag just running around and getting better at the movement mechanics of the game. I've always been a movement whore and I find that is fun as fuck in it's own right.

You can't just randomly run around in other modern shooters, it's just not fun.

From COD - to CS:GO they're pretty much the same in terms of how the game is played out. Different weapon mechanics fo sho' but very boring.

So yeah, we might be old and stuck in our ways, but Quake isn't just a game, it was a part of life growing up when you had tight knit circles of mates you'd jam with after school, on the weekends and holidays. The LAN days where you'd carry your pc and monitor to your friends house cause you weren't old enough to drive or weren't allowed to use the car. Those were the good old days.

There isn't as much challenge in Quake as people make out. Most Quake players are not that great. Some experienced COD (or whatever) player can join a FFA server and quite likely win their first couple of games and think the same things, Quake is just an easy boring spammy game etc.

Pretty true though the fact remains that it's still better if for nothing else than having hitscan AND projectile aim.

all quakers do pretty well in other shooters, doesnt matter what other shooter i play im always somewhere in the upper 50% of the scoreboard.

but the thing is after quake, every other game feels sluggish and not smooth, even with 200+ fps most games feel really bad, and then all these floaty movement systems..

its just not fun, and even tho im not pro or anything but i always feel like new games are "holding me back" somehow, like there are some mechanics that hinder you to unleash your full potential. so they get boring.

thats why on most new games the multiplayer part is really dead after 2 years or so, why would i ever want to invest time in a game when i know it wont be around in 2 years :)

i used to play q3 in early 2000's when i was a schoolboy and then stopped and started again a couple of times.. and the game is still around TODAY! soo you have to acknowlage quake is something very special

Okay, let an anonymous rant in a troll thread.

As it is, unlike people tell you, it wouldn't be hard to make a succesful Quake game at all these days. Just include the core gameplay of Q3 BUT at the same time make a really fucking good matchmaking for ranked play that uses built-in ELO ranking system to match you against other players so beginners can play against other beginners to level up and top level players can play against players their level without wasting their time. After every 50 ELO increasement or so give the players a new rank (and demote them to a lower rank when they lose their points below the threshold) so they have something to shoot for.

These are very basic functions in modern videogames and for a reason. What kind of nigga wants to hang out in IRC in 2017 just to find decent matches? But instead of implementing something that actually makes sense, these id clowns include loadouts and champions with abilities in their games which no one asked for. There was a lot of initial hype for QC when it was still on closed beta so there is still interest for the series but the game died down simply because it's a fucking mess. So instead of blaming Quake players not being able to adapt to anything new, tell the developers not to be retards themselves by not appealing to anyone.

Matchmaking only works with decent playerbase, not the sub ql level population. Besides said function wont attract players, it can only help keeping salt levels low.

There was hype and quite some scepticism, now there is mostly disappointment and a touch of hope.

Noting in return, this game must be fun as it was in 90', but hero shooter is incredibly stupid idea. Quake is still missing years, because of wrong decisions and wrong games too.

Just because people don't want to be filthy casuals and want a challenge means they are retards.
The majority of "new games" are a joke when any kind of a serious skill curve is to be applied. With the exception of starcraft, CS and maybe a few other FPS games, it's casualville all the way.

Also the inability of companies to produce decent products would suggest that said game developers are retards. It is very very easy to make a successful game that masses enjoy, just don't do the exact opposite to everything that the community wants. Also it helps not to be a money grabbing whore and actually develop a games instead of purely focusing on cosmetics so they can leech money with microtransactions.
It has been gone over so many times in various threads on this site that it would be really really easy for id to turn QC around. A few week, a month maximum and the player numbers would increase a hundredfold, but id is for some reason intentionally not doing anything to improve the game, and continues to decrease the playerbase.

If Quake Champions would release without the stupidity of MOBA champion selection and they'd given us FFA, Normal DUEL, TDM, CTF, CA, people would play it a lot more, but since it turned out to be a MOBA with hero abilities and different properties for each "champion" with some weird-as-shit modes, nobody really seem to like it all that much.


All Quake needed was really a face-lift, the core game play should have remained the same along with the core modes of play. They could have experimented with new duel modes and team modes outside of the main thing, and if people would like them, they would play them, but to just change the core of the game upside down and expect Quake fans to like it is a bit much.

Change is not always needed and you can see that with other games, computer as well as board, and with sports. They don't go and change tennis to only use kitchen utensils instead of rackets.
