i didn't defend any religious dogmas. i wasn't responding to demiurge and jamerio's argument. i responded to jamerio's position about the quality of a hypothetical supreme being's behaviors, and referenced an old document that does a good job of summarizing thousands of years of theology. jamerio is free to read it and gain a subtler and less naive understanding of what a supreme being could mean, so that he levels up a bit in his understanding of theology. there's nothing in what i said regarding belief or the truth of whether or not some supreme being does or does not exist.

it's simple to caricature the concept of intelligent design, and to demonize some 'creator' or 'supreme being' based on your particular morality or belief system (isn't that why so many religions fight each other? and here you see 'empirical' minds behaving the same way). it's less easy to step back and try to understand the philosophical ramifications of what impact the hypothetical question of such a being has on the position of man. it is difficult to detach ourselves from egocentricism in order to ponder some sort of ego relativity, just as it has been difficult for people to detach ourselves from geocentricism to ponder heliocentricism, and so on. there's an interesting correlation there.

one of the things i like to ask empiricists is if they're familiar with the idea that many tech. moguls and niche scientists are proposing recently, that the universe is a simulation. many empiricists are familiar with that, and find the proposition fascinating, all while missing the connection between intelligent design and the construction of a simulation.

also, it isn't convenient that such a hypothetical being is beyond our comprehension, it's just the nature of the hypothetical being. are you familiar with the goldfish problem? that a goldfish in a fishbowl can't conceive of what's happening outside of his bowl, and how that problem is an analog for human conception? plato's allegory of the cave? infinite regression? how the continued illumination of the consciousness, while providing more information by which to model a reality, doesn't actually eliminate the boundaries of the goldfish bowl, but extends them further, ad infinitum, so that the question can always be asked: yeah, but what's causes THAT?

my point wasn't to convince anybody or lobby for the truth of the existence of such a being, but to refine the concept of that being that jamerio has so that he can maybe understand and appreciate it on a deeper level. i've noticed that, for some people, that seems extremely difficult. i'm not sure why. i think it's because some people have trouble discerning the quality of hypothetical conversations, and are defensive of their empirical or religious belief systems, so they aren't able to "shift gears" to get into the right mode to be able to discuss things on a non-literal or non-factual or non-belief-challenging level. some people refer to this skill as 'compartmentalizing', which is the ability to segregate and emulate conceptual systems without having them interact or clash. it's kind of like virtual computers.
