don't know which company firstly introduced the term hotfix, but id and saber with QC can introduce the term coldfix. Someone please add it to wiki. It will be really nice, to be able to introduce a new term, that other communities and companies can use in future.

[Tim] : I just closed so many tickets like that, I was the best at it! Sadly for some reason I was taken away the rights to fix these tickets after some time. I guess my innovative genious was needed somewhere else! Some other method was the 'coldfix'. At that time there was only the hotfix. It fixed the problem, and that was it. Players liked hotfixes, but you get only one fix, for one problem. Boring, right? So I came, and thought about it, why not make the players even more happy. We should fix the same problems multiple times! This time my genious really shined!

[Tim] : Yes, we fixed it obviously, but soon rolled it back, so we can fix it again later! Also it helps really much when counting bonuses at the end of the year - you can show how many fixes were done in such a short time. A pinnacle of management! And it was ALL MY IDEA (c).

Come on that's not true, the netcode improved a ton already (for most players anyways). Memory leaks fixed, weird abilities and weapon bugs fixed

But I'd agree there is still a looong way to go for a polished game

it is only improved for low pings. I can make it perfect for low pings in less than an hour, by removing all prediction and logic. It is not an accomplishment. A real improvement would had been, if they could improve it for a wider range of pings.

Anyway, after some months of having QC uninstalled I am dropping in order to check out the current state of the game and one thing I don't understand:

+ Fixed mouse sensitivity only being able to be adjusted by increments of 0.25

Wtf does that mean?
Can I only choose from 0, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75, ... in a drop down menu?
Increment-plus/minus-arrow-buttons in the menu?

After watching a twitch-stream, it seems they changed values regarding health and armor of some chimpions, but is by now a classic mode without those chimpions available?

That changelog note was for the reversal of the mouse settings only allowing .25 steps, it was not meant to be this way but was introduced in the December patch.

I am pretty sure, that while I had QC installed, I could set the sensitivity with 2 digits after the decimal separator, in order to reproduce my cm/360°.
For the sake of understanding, let us say I must pick 0.127 to have my cm/360°, but due to the available digits I had to pick 0.13 (being closest to 0.127).
You say this got changed in December and from my understanding it currently (still, due to hotfix being rolled back) only supports increments of 0.25 behind the decimal separator.
So I can only pick 0.00 or 0.25 by now?
Or do those 0.25-increments only mean sensitivity-modifications via a drop-down-menu or left/right-arrows?

You can put whatever you like in the config file until the next patch is out and the menu functions properly again.

Perfect, I am not a big Bethesda-forum-visitor, but found the answer to my question in that thread.
Seems those 0.25 ain't an increment for a relative change, but instead are the rounding for the absolute sensitivity value.
This is quite astonishing, because I could set a more precise value in games more than 20 years ago.
So in QC you have to reproduce your cm/360° by writing directly into your cfg, adjusting m_yaw or mouse-dpi.
Reading backwards through the development of QC is such a shitshow, sensitivity rounding, clutch-movement-boosts and lg-wiggle-hack.
Now I understand why QC's player graph dropped under QL's.

It was not intentional, and the menu precision was also to be fixed by the hotfix that was rolled back, and then delayed. It should be sorted out in the Jan patch still expected this week.

Like you described in the linked thread the value scale for sensitivity was designed with mice arround 400dpi in mind back in the days, but with modern high dpi mice, lower sensitivity values get used, where a 0.25-stepping corresponds to a dramatic change in cm/360°.
Still kind of weird, that in the 90s I could set whatever I want without such problems and it makes me wonder, if they even test their builts before release (lg-wiggle-hack, clutch movement, value rounding, hotfix getting rolled back, ...).
So I play a bit of QL which I still have installed, rather than downloading 10+ gb of broken code and poor game design.
But I am looking forward to the classic mode, maybe I will give QC then another try (if it ain't dead by then).

Well you could previously click the number and type in any 3 decimal place number, I've been asking for at least 4 or 5 dp if not more ever since the start of the beta to accommodate higher DPI mice. Certainly it's more than capable, the config stores it as a full float with 18 dp, it's just a matter of what the UI permits.

For some configs I've experimented and liked in the past 3 dp isn't even enough to fine tune things on a 400dpi mouse, especially for pitch. So I'm hoping the Jan patch brings more precision not just fixing it back to how it was before it was accidentally locked to .25 steps.

Yes you are right.
But in my case even two digits in the span down to 0.01 is enough to be honest:
For my 1600 (1666 effective) dpi and 30cm/360° with yaw/pitch at default it is
(360 * 2.54) / (30 * 0.022 * 1666) = 0.8316blabla.
I had set 0.83, those are just 2 significant digits, but an inaccuracy of 0.0016blabla in the magnitude of 0.8316blabla, is a small relative offset error (about 0.2%) and not noticeable.

The thing is, float/double both have actually more than enough digits (7 and 15 in C++) to allow neglectable relative percental offset errors in an excessive range of magnitudes for sensitivity and yaw/pitch, it is just you can't adjust those digits beyond the magnitude (span) of 0.01 (for sensitivity and 0.001 for yaw/pitch) in QC's menu and on top of that, your value gets rounded to a 0.25 step before being stored in the memory as float/double.
So when I want to set 0.83 = 100%,
thanks to their 0.25 menu stepping, I will end up with
0.75 = about 90%
or
1.00 = about 120%,
no matter if float or double.
It is astonishing to me, that this was no problem back in 1996, but more than 20 years later in 2018 they fail at such stuff, while aiming at e-sports and need more than a month to fix it. Anyway, I heared it got fixed with the 25th January patch, although I can't find it in the patch notes.

If I had any actual power to investigate players, I would, when I have actual evidence that is proof, then I have always done what I can to try highlight them to the staff that can actually do something about it.

Anyway, we don't know the numbers and we have no conclusive data to speculate much. Could be 20% of Steam's playerbase, could be 200%.

The only thing we know for certain is queueing in NA still takes ages and matches are still unfair, meaning that the playerbase on Bethesda can't be many times bigger than on Steam.

Gameplay i like though.

Get rid of doom. Wasn't fun in doom... not fun in quake.

Characters have too much health, many of the battles are now trivialized to a certain degree.

Sorlag/Keel just feel too stacked, even some of the smaller one seems to survive fights you would think they would have died before, my genreal thought is they last 15-25% longer than they should when you get into a battle.

Anarki/Slash still ruin FFA, anyone with half a brain knows the real key to winning FFA is successful quad runs, if you have two characters like like slash/anarki (and nyx to a lesser degree) whose UPS + HITBOX are as they are, getting on the quad with a clean break and health/armour stack + LG is game over providing you maintain a semi decent kill ratios in between them, not a problem with a nailgun and the ability to get in close and avoid a fair amount of damage.


Virtually all of the other characters can't cover anywhere near the same distance, and seeing as there's 4 quads per game (generally speaking) there's 4 really good opportunities for those two characters to really run riot.

Pick more than other character.
