horrible idea, 2v2 requires pretty much the same skill set as 1v1 while sac requires some sort of teamplay and coordination.
I think having both ways of playing is more useful for the game in the long run, especially for new players the objective based gameplay seems to be more fun to pick up than duel and or 2v2.
2v2 also requires you to sit down and camp at certain spots in the map thanks to a 5 second weapon respawn time, if the spawns for weapons were delayed for at least 15-20 seconds it would see a better balance for 2v2. everything else tho for items are fine the way they are. 2v2 practically feels like qw with 5 second weapon spawns
while sac requires you to be in a cess pool of everybody else fighting for either the soul (ball), point (a or b) or powerup.
Don't know for other games, but I don't see the point of 3rd party ladders in Quake. Specially now, with 2v2 getting a ranked mode as well.
There is, and never was no prestige or incentive to rank high on random 3rd party ladders. It was always about cb / hoq / whatever league there was to play when it comes to QL.
I've always perceived these ESL ladders as pcws with the additional hassle of signing up, score reporting and dealing with admins if something goes wrong. A perpetual season with no structure where all teams are in the same division doesn't make much sense. Specially not when there is no obligation to play. I'd rather play a pickup game than sending challenge requests on ESL's website for something that's not valorized in any way.
These ladders don't benefit or grow the scene in any way. It's more of a lazy attempt to do something without putting in the effort to actually do something. Now, to give credit to ESL and their admins - they've been running QC cups since forever so their interest in QC obviously ain't half-assed. I just have no idea why they're adding something they know no one will play. They should just drop the ladders completely and amp up the frequency of the 2v2 or duel cups.
