They called it the Nightmare in Fürth; I am calling it the most glorious Quake-related hairstyle I have ever seen. To those of us feeling the winter chill this January, I recommend taking a look back at German Voodoo People's July 1999 summer picnic LAN party. At the very least, it's gonna warm the heart.
love the style esp the faded t-shirts, one guy there has a guns and roses T that's so worn the 'A' and 'D' from the word 'and' have disappeared completely!
Psychology teaches us about the "Stuck" accentuation; for example, if you tend to it, after you'd set a strain on your shirt, you will think about it ALL the time.
Somehow i feel esr has had an epidemic of it.
Once upon a time there was some really good old-school 1st-person 3D-shooter videogame. It got not very great sequel, it seems, although, its not even released yet.
So fucking what?
Why spend hours and hours writing endless posts about it?
Play the game if you like. Play something else if you dont.
Isnt it better, i dunno, to write to a thousand chicks with your Tinder, ffs?
that's not how humans work tho. Any kind of emotion exists to tell other people how you feel. So if you are frustrated, happy, angry and whatnot you naturally want to tell others. You look for other people to share your interest for the game and talk to them.
It is not less meaningful to bitch about the game that you are frustrated about, than it is to share achievements and joy of a game that makes you happy. Both have no real purpose other than satisfy peoples need for socializing - which is infact quite meaningful.
By the way it is not all doom and gloom on esr. I remember quite a bit of positive feedback in QL times when maps like toxicity made it into the pool, weekly zotac cups became a thing or 1000 comments - Dreamhack Final Day - news where full of celebration and happyness about awesome matches or great interviews.
Ehm, actually the emotions exist as a reactions of our personality to external stimuli. And we need it for ourself, mostly, or to share, if we want and choose to.
Any kind of emotion exists to tell other people how you feel.
Well, thats how the kids work :D They simply HAVE TO inform you about each and every emotion they have, even if its repeating. I fear, therefore i cry, i'm angry, therefore i'm throwing stuff, i'm glad, therefore i'm clapping my hands and so on. Thats not how adults work.
So, sharing your frustration again and again and again and again in the exact same way did look kinda strange for me, because 90% of this site is way above their 30-ties.
Yeah, ql-times was allrite, felt like second youth both to the game and community. All these crazy collages, mash-ups, comics by Potat and so on. Every time you open one of this 1000+ comments thread you inevitably would find something really hilarious. And now its some moaning fest mostly.
A lot of fun was to be had about the development of 'The New Hope' and the communication of it's developers. There's quite some comedy among the sour sods here.
I agree. I do exaggerate as we all do simply to make our point more clear.
But i do see lots of guys here constantly repeating their dissatisfaction about qc over and over again as some kind of a mantra. Promising to never buy it. Methodically writing about how it gets even worse with the every update of the game.
Like its some "I won't play qc" club.
I didn't like Q4. So i simply got over it and skipped it as it has never been published. One time decision.
I would never spend 7 months after qc beta-release posting how i didn't like the game.
Interesting how people always say the original Quake Veterans are in their thirties now, when the big majority of people in this album from 1999 look like they were already older than 25 at the time (just like the people in this video).
I think thats because the dudes on these pictures are the first generation of quakers. Early q1 and qw players. Remember the story Latrommi told in multiple interviews about his dad that taught him to play quake? That's it.
Most of these guys don't play no more, it seems.
And about the average age of quakers - i would say it really is around thirty. The peak of quake population was in q3 times, because it was the most popular game of the series and literally millions copies were sold. Most of us were "turned" then. And since we were teenagers then, now, when something like 15+ years passed, we're in our thirties.
