pretty textures were planned, than the kickstarter campaign was cancelled because no support happened (less then 1/4th of the goal was met).

They made the game anyways, but obviously they had to cut costs whereever possible. If you wonder how reflex should have looked like (and in theory still could), there are some concept arts on the kickstarter page:

They should have fired Electro instead of newborn.. Art style is shit, newborn at least cared about the gameplay issues that never got fixed

I think the biggest problem with new UT is that, thee is no advertising of it at all.

The problem is you are expecting it to happen. You can't even get two Quake players to agree on a definitive edition.

Just play what you enjoy and if that's QuakeWorld then play that and work to keep the community alive as much as you can.

I stopped expecting my version of Quake to be made a long time ago and I'm better off for it. CPMA was my definitive Quake and games like Reflex tried to carry the torch but it's never really the same as it was.

I think that's a big factor too it's not pre-2005 anymore. The whole feel and scene of online gaming are completely different. There's also a hundred games a year. It was easier back when we only had a few decent games a year. Now you have to get out your crystal ball to try to figure out what people will play... but does that even matter? I enjoyed Dirty Bomb for about a year... it wasn't a big scene but I had fun and then I moved on to something else.

I'm enjoying Quake Champions for what it is and the competitive scene is really great to watch. You get to see legends from virtually all Quake games and newcomers competing.
