We used to live in a time were the limits to our self only were set by our own imagination. We were totally free in thinking and moving through our beloved world. Speed limits didnt exist and we could create the world around us simply by our console and our config.

The elite didnt like that. Free thinking and uninfied action is seen as a threat for their wealth.

They figured out that gaming has a huge impact of the younger generation
So they used the power of their money to get into the gaming industrie.

My sources and hours of investigative journalism tell me, that the elite developed and brought us genius games like:

Because games started coming out which weren't so punishing to new players. Its been Quake's problem for the last 2 decades.

Its also in a vicious cycle where there could be a Quake game which ticks all the boxes, but it'd need a lot of work and funding to pull it off. But because its not popular already, it can't get that funding.

You need to ease the noobs into it gradually, instead of pushing them into the deep end. The problem is that Quake becomes fun after you've built up your skills, but its just frustrating at the beginning, so a lot of new players never get to experience how fun it can be. The biggest reason it was a success two decades ago was because there wasn't much choice, and if most of us were born 10 years later we probably would never have got into it either.

Disagree. If you throw a bunch of fresh players into a server together then they'll (usually) have a great time. Very few games manage this even today.

Yes but thats not the experience 99% of fresh players have, mostly they get their arses kicked for a few weeks before they can hold their own, and only a small amount of players put up with that for long.

So the problem is that Quake, in its current state - the experience 99% of new players have - becomes fun only after you build up your skills.

If Quake was changed so that it had effective matchmaking, and training modes, that wouldn't be the case anymore. It'd be like you said, "they'll have a great time" :)

The funny thing about Fortnite is that the game is a success because its creators paid a lot of cash to top notch streamers to play the game. It made viewers try and play the game making bigger numbers. Their friends who don't watch twitch followed anyway. This is how you promote the games in 2018.

The open source release of id Tech 3 was a nice gesture but it added even more identical games.

at least, build upon what the q3 community effort produced, like integrate the highly developed defrag mod, instead of adding a degenerated "races" mod.

A competitive scene/pro players might produce some good tourneys and streams but it will NOT bring back the quake community!

I disagree that the golden age of QUAKE was the relatively short period of time that quake 3 was at the height of it's competitive popularity, and that this period of time is essentially what future quakes should strive for...

The pool of players who were part of the competitive tdm and ctf leagues were fun to watch, but were in no way the majority of the players.

The belief that this group of 'the most skilled / competitive' players is the most important thing to recapture also brings up this idea of 'don't split the community' and 'don't allow too many game modes because it will split the community' in new quake games, which I think is COMPLETELY backwards and wrong way to think about QUAKE.

The best part of quake 1, quake 2, quake 3, and in my opinion what brought and kept the vast majority players, has always been the customizability, whether via mods, via configs, via console commands etc, other FPS games always felt so restrictive after playing quake. It was NOT the competitive scene that made quake popular.

You could join 1 server and there would be runes, another server would have low gravity, another would have super powerful weapons, another server would have crazy bizarre homemade maps, you could play CA, CTF, DM, etc etc

This was true for quake 1, 2 and 3 and is the fucking life blood of QUAKE, I'm tired of people bashing Quake Champions for not having balanced competitive modes because they think the solution is that quake needs some sort of competitive scene, like that would bring back the quake community. The large communities in past quakes were built around mods, customizability, freedom, literally the things that allow a community to be a community, this does not look possible in QC so I am holding out hope that a future quake embraces this again and allows people to create content and customize...

QC is just insultingly shitty on all levels.
Everything Id software does just poisons the well for deathmatch arena shooters and it really just need to fucking die.

Duel is the only reason I even play Quake Live, but it is 2018 and not 2009. Back when I started, roughly around 2014, there were enough players to get me games several times a day. I am now like just below 2000 elo, but where are the people at? Where is the crowd of Quake fans at? Ah right, they're all on ESR or playing that blasphemous QC. I'm thinking to myself, if only I had been able to play back when the server lists were full. Instead of having to get on and wait 30 minutes to a few hours just to either completely outmatch someone, or to end up playing someone that outmatches me and leaves in less than two games. I like variety, if I play and beat the same person a million times, I know neither of us are having that much fun. Same with when I am losing. If I played jochs or julbars every day, they'd likely figure out how to keep me down before I learn to get up. It already happened with another player. That is the reason why people stopped playing I think. It gets boring when you realize you're not playing the game, you're just playing that opponent over and over again.

Quake isn't dead... you just haven't seen his light. Take off your sun glasses please, you will understand better
