The only one I can think of is located in "Quake4\q4max\docs" duble click on Server.htm or Server.html.

As for a cfg example you could take a look in "Quake4\q4max\cfg\example-server.cfg"

I am not sure, but you can also upload profiles to you server so that people can vote for them. Usually they are located in "Quake4\q4max\profiles"

FYI, "profiles" are for clients (eg "pretty" vs "fast" client configs).

The thing you meant was "q4max/modes/*.cfg" which can be used to set up custom modes on top of the built in ones (see si_mode / si_modes documentation).

I'd suggest avoid Q4 official installation routine completely (setup.sh and all that shit) and put everything in place by hand. It's pretty straightforward and easy; just tried it here on FreeBSD 11.0-CURRENT and Linux Mint 17.3, should be all the same for Ubuntu, Debian, et al.

1. Create a directory where you want to place Q4 files; I used $HOME/q4 for simplicity's sake (commands and paths below are given relative to it). Q4 will also create hidden directory $HOME/.quake4 for its local bookkeeping.

2. Skip the shell code (you will typically see #!/bin/sh bytes if you look what's inside those .run files) in the beginning of 275MB quake4-linux-1.4.2.x86.run file and unpack as a regular .tar.gz:

tail -n +376 /path/to/your/quake4-linux-1.4.2.x86.run | tar xzvf -

3. Download 24MB q4max082.zip and unpack in the same place ($HOME/q4).

4. Now refer to q4max/docs/Server.html as advised by Clau. You're particularly interested in the list of required *.pk4 files, because most of them are missing from quake4-linux-1.4.2.x86.run and must be copied from the full game's installation. (You might want to verify MD5 sums to make sure those files are exactly what dedicated server expects.)

5. Fix missing executable bit on bin/Linux/x86/q4ded.x86 and start the server (with default settings) by running these commands:

chmod +x bin/Linux/x86/q4ded.x86
bin/Linux/x86/q4ded.x86 +set fs_game q4max +exec cfg/example-server.cfg

It will listen on port 28004 (with repeater on port 28104). You may now try connecting with your Q4 client to see if it works or not. :-)

Clau, do you know where are the perfix server paks?
There are some really nice maps (for example Xaero Gravity by Perfix) but i cannot find them.

I don't think its going to work in the Multiplayer Demo. You will need the full Q4 game in order to add and play custom maps.
I played the multiplayer demo a lot back in 2008 and none of the servers had custom maps.

Is there any way to make it work? Could you think sth?
