A lot of lower-skilled players participate in these draft cups. Thats why things like map metas or the worries of unbalance will hardly have an impact.

Trying to be there this time.

I try to select maps that are interesting from different povs, from the attackers as a team, from an individual attacker, from the defenders pov, from a beginners pov and so on. I do this in hope that the team with good dynamics/ good understanding of a map/ good communication and so on shall stand a chance against more aim heavy teams. Wcp9 midfield isn't all that exciting in all honesty with aim heavy players, then every team will need a Mastermind to cap, aren't enough Masterminds around these days ;) Why some maps like for example Fluorescent isn't played more is beoynd me, it's a high octane map where a good team effort should go far. Dukes is more about controlling the PUs, quite similair to cp9 in that regard, but a bit more laidback in terms of speed because of an easier to cross mid, in other words players will be scatterd over a larger portion of the map, making team communication an co-ordination important. Just some thoughts, I don't expect all of you to agree but would be nice to have a discussion other than: "THAT MAP SUCKS!!!" Instead, tell me why you think it sucks, what components the map in question lacks for making a good ctf map and so on.

Anyways, I know most of us will have a great time during the cup. It's not about winning, rather about playing and fitting into a team and tdying to improve, maybe look at odd maps with new ideas on how to unlock their secrets.

in almost every team one player will not know the map (Fluorescent) so the game will be a shit fest.

It has been like this for every draft cup this far since about one player of each team has had none or very limited ctf experience. Have worked pretty good imho.

Fluorescent: Pure same-walled eyebleed labyrinth, cropped together from various other maps.

Duke's Garden: Super flat and uberslow (literally a wood chopping struggle) without CPM.

yea all these maps would be so much more interesting to play in cpm settings :D but its not that bad in vq3 either i guess. After quick run around on fluorescent to get where are the items etc, all i can say it will be a hell of a hard time for def. Because considering you def alone you will have A LOT of area's to cover and it will be almost impossible to def it, since attackers will have A LOT of routes to take where to run with a flag. Also this is quite a small map, very claustrofobic sometimes, im afraid it might be too crowded for a 5v5.

I fear it might be a tad small too, but due to all routes, as you pointed out, I hope that players get scattered out on the map. Yes, flag might be easily picked up but there is a very small choke point for entering mid. We will find out in time.

or we might not :D i mean, no one will pick it. I bet it will be played only as a 3rd map if needed and considering that no one knows it (pretty much accurate) then this match will be rofl for everyone :D

Good that there's granade launcher in base, in that case to boost your defence for about 50% all you have to do is spam.

Actually i came up with an idea for a 2x def tactic, high def takes position near mid so he will see everybody going mid-to-base and he gives info for a flagdef who starts spamming nades in a direction where enemy is coming from. In that case flagdef could stand whole 20 min on gl spawn and be a fucking spamming statue.

I read the post and signed up because it would be nice to put on some ctf, its been a while. Then I read the map pool and unsigned is this what is played in ctf atm? I wont be bitch about it about but come on...a normal map a cpm map and fluorescent .. Hope to see a nice stream tho

There are no streams that i can see having checked a few times and it's a pity.

I think the map pool turned a lot of people off from playing or wanting to hype it for streamers to watch but i would still have liked to have seen some quake ctf....

And he played a glorious detence! As for the rest of his team; total hacks ;)

He played decent CA def, catching everyone with lg, but messing up item timing and in the end the guy that stole his ra got the winning cap. It is hard to def on spiders so I'm not saying he did bad.

He did very good considering he's not a ctf player, besides that, he was on my team, ergo: GLORIOUS DEFENCE ;)

Yesterday after the cup I was too tired to do even a small summary/write up. I think the cup was quite succesful, teams weren't too uneven even though two teams stood out as superb in the end. One of them due to a participant had a friend sign him up for the cup, a mate with rather low ctf elo when in fact the player himself had 2300 xD It's really hard to make even teams and a thing like this doesn't exactly help xD, however we do our best. As for maps, please discuss. I thought it was fun, maps demanding a lot from the teams, ofc ONE good player can always make a difference but seemed less so on some of the maps. Anyway I really enjoyed playing and enjoyed my team, GG to my team and the rest of the players, see you next time :)

Ye, it was pretty chill, had close games vs. everybody, except that first Duke's Garden - which we redeemed on cp9 later on.
