You can buy PCBs with 3360 sensors that are made to fit WMO shells, and their clones that you can buy @ Taobao, Aliexpress etc.

I just want a WMO with an updated sensor (800dpi etc.) and new cable (default one sucks). Why does no one sell that. Then I'd swap the mouse feet with Zowie's or whatever.

Look at McFly's link and follow that discussion. As I understand it one of the guys in that thread is making a WMO pcb made for the 3360 sensor, he is in inland China though but is looking for a suitable connection outside of China for selling said pcbs. I'm sure there will be info in that thread if and when he succeeds in finding the right platform/connection outside China.
