i think, if you want to get more people playing this game, DM/TDM only is the wrong way (like it is now).
objective based gamemodes is the way to go - ctf/slipgate should have been released during E3.
I’d take that as an insult but my fav quake ctf varient is offhand hook insta ctf. I don’t think qc ctf will be bad considering I still play and enjoy the latest weapons of destruction patch for q2. That being said, is not necessarily a good idea to have a fuck ton of abilities cause, just like q2 wod, the gameplay becomes too random and creates frustration for many players pro and noob alike.
Edit: and I failed to mention flimsy netcode. Phantom captures anyone? We will see. I hope they’re successful.
- Better UI, something along the pre-steam QL lines would work nice for this game. Talking about the ease of checking peoples stats, browsing games, inviting people and having overview of clan information or match history. It's terrible to have to tab-out every single time to do this. Also, a polished menu is very important to give good first impressions to new folks and to set a certain atmosphere for the gameplay. The way it made me feel when I saw it the first time was: 'ugh, this is so cheap'.
- Make people able to skip post and pre-match character animations by default. Loading times are already long as it is. Also, make people able to SKIP the post-match rewards and XP bar progression, and let them land on the match statistics page immediatly if they press ESC.
- Faster loading times & Continuous playing + match browser with tiered servers (help making community)
- Vote/restart map and kick/ban player if above is incorporated
- Performance tweaks, especially in 3v3+ formats - stutters everywhere. Engine is poorly optimized and leads to even worse mouse input (Raw input when?) when the stutters happen. Latest patch made the game run worse for plenty of people while making it run better for a select few. Delve in the code and fix the problems, start off with corrupted keep. If people are having stutters on a top end machine, your coding sucks, deal with it.
- Anticheat + Demo system (can't believe the latter isn't added yet). Easier for content creators too to work off on demo's instead of having to chop & screw twitch.tv vods (some with poor bitrate). Also, there's an influx of cheaters lately, even see them streamsniping folks without shame or consequence. If you want to advertise your game as an e-sports title, then this should be one of the first things you need to address.
- Sound needs to get reviewed aswel since there's a huge blind spot (around 90 degrees) from the back where you can't hear footsteps or certain shots. I've heard almost everyone complain about this since the beginning of this game. HRTF was a failure and made the game run worse.
Speaking of, being able to disable the continuous oneliners while still being able to hear ingame announcer would be nice. I mean it does get certainly tiresome if you hear "MAKIN MOMMA PROUD" for the 20000th time. Also should be able to disable or change the volume of the menu sound, literally makes me mute my audio when I start up the game to avoid getting my ears shattered by the Galena animation and other fireworky menu sounds.
- There are still plenty of bugs left in and outside of the matches. This ain't pubg where the bugs are a meme and to be enjoyed, they are unacceptable and should be addressed with utmost priority. For instance I can't click anything in my desktop since my input gets isolated by QC. I have to open task manager for it to work again. This is happening since 2-3 patches. Also, some animations dissapear or are inaccurate with the netcode reg. For instance I've seen me and other people get lit on fire while there was no animation on the area they walked on. I've seen some orbs gone under a ridge and it resulted in still being able to telefrag someone or get teleported behind an opponent (rapha stream, ingame). Also I've shot some orbs and I've seen it flying to the destination where I want to port to, but I get ported into a wall infront of me, while the orb was at the other side of the map visually.
-Netcode: There have been a lot of cases ingame for me and seen on stream where people get hit by projectiles and hitscan while being out of sight of the opponent for a long enough time for it to not register. Also you still get punched by Doom when he's 3-5 meters away from you. DK ability, ranger ability and rockets sometimes go through people and register for 0 and other times clearly miss and still instagib you. This is on both ends. It needs polishing. If we're talking about a game where speed and precision is paramount, there shouldn't be this amount of desync. The desync problem has grown of a bigger problem lately. Couple months back I had way fewer instances of the game being so inaccurate. Reset your servers more frequently if you're too lazy to work on the code at least.
I know adding new champs and skins will keep you guys from postponing hard and expensive stuff that requires lot of effort to fix, but you don't want your game to crumble down into inactivity, which I think we're close to that point. Don't get fooled by player numbers. I know that a multitude of people is smurfing, even all the pro players have 3-4 smurfs nowadays. Making the game free to play wasn't a smart decision since it literally takes 2 minutes to make a new account. Imagine the cheaters you eventually ban and 2 sec later their knocking on the next imaginary door of a public server, ready to wreak havoc on people who can neither kick or chose who they play with. This happens more often than not.
There's plenty of other things that need attention, but I've said it many times again and my words and other peoples' words fall on deaf ears. It's just screaming in the wilderness on ESR or being ignored or being a negative nancy on other forums, being shut out, ignored or taken for granted because the only involvement they give the community is a weekly Q&A where they reply to only 5% of the questions vaguely, ignore criticism and try desperate as hell to keep people warm with sugarcoated bullshit that actually don't benefit the game but make it more random and frustrating. I mean, look at the tribolt and DK for instance. Everytime I watch a stream I see people shaking their head when they either frag or get fragged by it. It's out of place, unbalanced, gimmicky. It creates too many situations where pressing your ability button first is going to make you win a fight, or give you a too easy frag. It disrupts the flow of having an upper hand by control and stronger decisionmaking, reducing it to RNG (most of the time). Also seen it makes people play super passive and then slug someone that comes around the corner.
Ability available off spawn is also something you need to consider changing. How often have we seen people win a fight and keep most of their stack by some nice plays and combat skill to be totally decimated by a BJ or DK ability, storming in mindlessly with pretty much zero chance to counter (because opponent had a lucky spawn).
Saber, get your priorities straight, and think stuff over a couple more times before you implement it in your game. You can put a Ferrari sticker on a Fiat and try to sell it as one, you can fool some, but not forever. This game can be infinite amounts better each patch if you just chose to prioritize and address the important stuff first.
Wow, that CTF "showcase" just felt so bland and anti-climatic. It didn't even feel like I was watching CTF at all, just felt like I was watching the same generic mind-numbing overwatch nonsense I've been seeing for the last 12 months.
It felt like it because it was like it. I was thinking "hey it’s CTF finally, let's be positive again about this" when I was watching the footage, but after a few seconds I realized that if I think about Quake 1, 2 or 3, they were all look very similar or you could even say they were alike. This one doesn’t look like Quake at all, it looks like an Unreal – Doom16 – Overwatch hybrid.
CTF + ranger ability on a space map (or just a map eher you can see the enemy flag from the point of your own flag) and we will see a 1-2sec flagrun (flagteleport).
Not if you cannot use your ability while carrying the flag, like they did in Sacrifice. You'd be able to make your way there but wouldn't be able to flag capture and teleport back to your own base with the flag.
The fact that they're forced to disable 'abilities' (temporarily or otherwise) to make a mode remotely playable highlights that they're broken by definition and this is by the developers own admission.
Flag carrier without ability sounds utterly retarded in competition environments. Have fun running naked, chased by ctf veterans with a full loaded flamethrower.
You can use ability but it puts the flag down, so you can always use your ability and re-take the flag after. It's just to avoid people going invisible with nyx or teleporting witth ranger while carrying the flag.
Talking about running dry, it seems your enthusiasm about life has run dry too, at least judging by the almost entirety of your postinh being negative and depressed dumps or sarcastic personal comments about people, their ideas, QC, Bethesda, ID, and pretty much everything else.
Cheer up boy, I know you're Finnish and all but still.
just imagine:
4v4 tdm on corrupted keep with tons of DarkKnights and Athenas...all those stuttering and rubberbanding and athenas moving all around the burning screen ...cant wait
I also agree that the clips look like they just took the clips out of 10 minutes of LoL players playing QC at a convention and used what they could find there, but I'll give it a pass this time due to diversity
