Strafejumping itself is a degradation of the beautiful flowing quake bunnyhop. Noobs whined, devs cut out aircontrol, why otherwise do you think it would be reasonable that poor quakeguy has to suddenly run face first into walls like a drunken retard, instead of turning into doors/corridor in a flowing motion. Actually 80% of the degradation of quake skillset was done in Q3, QC is just putting up the finishing touches.

Always found aircontrol too easy and kinda pointless when applied to competetive game modes.

But I guess thats where we part ways. For me, Quake is about competetive modes. Air control is hard to integrate without making it too powerful and easy to chase, I think thats where Vq3 shines, the art of movement becomes much more apparent when you have to plan ahead your movement instead of just holding +W. But some people prefer vampiric clan arena, and thats fine too :D

Watch QW duel for an hour with all it's acrobatic flowing glory and see how stale and geriatric Q3/QL duels looks after it with the movement broken into small crippled jump-flurries and constant peekaboo.

You don't get it, I'm guessing you never really played the original quake. In QW with the bunny dynamics, movement and the dodging you mean is not separated. With the air control just like you don't have run fkn face first into walls and stop for 'inconvenient' turns, you also don't have get out of movement mode, just dodged while doing it. That's what I meant when I said Q3 degraded half the quake skill to dumb ADAD spamming. Get on youtube and watch some QW duels. Not gonna see many of ADAD spam that takes up half the Q3 matches. Not like it never happens, but it's just a tiny interval Also kind of ironic that the ADAD spam fkn annoys ppl in Q3, altho its one of the main specific feature of their favorite quake.

Aircontrol in team modes is beautiful. The vq3/strafe jump mechanics make duel a much better experience IMHO.

If you for some mysterious reason can't get away from the Q3 engine looks, watch how stale and broken Q3/Ql duel looks comperad to CPMA. Since the graphics are the same, if you show those to someone not knowing the titles, mechanics and story behind them, they will simply think that the Q3/QL duel is played by noobish players and the other is played by pros who simply know how to do more & faster.

I started with aircontrol bunnyhop. It's my favorite kind of movement. From my experiences, especially in 1v1, duel is simply better in Q3, and team modes are simply better in QW/CPM. QW duel is pretty boring to spectate, as is CPM duels. Is it super skill requiring? Fo sho yo. Both are an inferior game to Q3 based duel. The nuance and mind games make it more enjoyable, especially for spectators. But QW's TDM makes Q3's TDM look horrendous, cause it's far superior. Same with CPM style CTF - it's way more fun than Q3/QL CTF. There's nothing wrong with just strafe jumping, and it makes duel a far more enjoyable experience to both spectators and players as a whole. If you enjoy air control based gameplay, power to you. No need to get this mildly hostile attitude.

Q3 duel is just degradation, slowdown of the original quake duel as in general Q3 is. It's was also taking 'quake' a few notches closer to military shooter, probably on purpose (machine gunning + sniper as main weapon). Once again the same thing as QC now, trying to grab an audience that was on other games (mostly CS). I have a hard time keeping attention on QC duels, I literally try hard and find myself chatting or even tabbing out, maybe not to that extent but the same applies to Q3/QL duels, but when I went over a few days ago to watch HAL, I couldn't keep my eyes off the combat, and QW is even better. After QW watching Q3 just feels like you are watching something that is slow, broken and geriatric for no apparent reason.

Yes, it's far superior, not only due to movement or insta-switch but the mere fact the railgun is not a thing in QW. That weapon alone has shifted so much focus away from movement, map control and aim to point-n-click and run away into the teleporter. Much more than lack of air-control, although that doesn't help either. And no, movement isn't everything in QW, CPM, WSW, PK, even Q4, hell even Q2. But it's A THING. Much more so than it is in Q3 where skilled movement is something you do in between fights but never in fights - fights only get ADAD.

Yes, let us. We can easily do it because the LG is not infinite in range, nor can you use it to deal unanswerable damage... you know you have to be able to at least DODGE while shooting it.

I don't really mention Q2 becasue it's kinda of an inconsequential game, it came and went as if it never existed similar to Q4.

It's about the same. Quake combat skill degraded to 70% ADAD spam after QW.

Actually now I'm here from watching bunch of QW demos out of nostalgia, and I have to say there is far-far-far bigger difference between QW and Q3 than between Q3 and QC. Imho unless there is the the quad or something that has a common shape, just by the mechanics, someone not familiar wouldn't even think the games are related. Drastically different gameplay, No machine gunning, no sniping, no peek-a-boo fragging, and an enormous speed + pace difference. On the other side QC and Q3 looks very-very related.

Quake 3 is slower, more tactical, puts more emphasis on strategy.

Whereas qc, while resembling quake 3 more, is just DUMB, empty, brainless, due to the sound engine, the hitboxes, the champions, the abilities, the round based duel, the weapon balancing, etc.

No, Q3 is less tactical becasue it pushes the game towards a military shooter's style, peek-a-boo fragging from cover with a high powered sniper. If you can deral big dmg instantly with unlimited range you are allowed to be less peculiar about your positioning. It's also the most retarded version of that with mostly literally just AD-AD in-out from behind some column to hit the one big dmg shot. If I think about it, even overwatch's widowmaker gameplay is superior, at least there people fly around, evade & reposition with great speed, not just ADAD from a corner.

Btw there is nothing wrong with being sniper in itself, but the basic proposition of quake that set it apart from military shooters is that you DO NOT have machine gunning and high powered sniper play. If you remove that barrier it's not quake anymore.

You pick up one style of fighting namely the one where both guys rail each other across the map most prominently found on aerowalk where it is really like this, ADAD with a cover, and the you say the whole game is like this.

QL is 200% better when compared to QC.

It's because the developers are more socially conscious now and want to promote an inclusive environment for all level of gamers. Hence the speed caps originally implemented. Think about being in a game where all the other players rush away from you at a pace you have no chance of keeping up with. It would make you feel inadequate, left out of the group and alone. Possibly leading to depression and all sorts of other mental issues.

What we're seeing in QC is just more of Mr. Willits' genius at work. He's able not only to create an extremely compelling and engaging gameworld. But to use that world to highlight our flaws as humans and to also send a message of hope that if we all just slow down and work together we can make the world a better place.

Sometimes you have to take something away to make something better. Also better and worse is highley subjective. For me personally i dont like the randomness which i claim comes with bunny hopping. Also i think its too exhausting being on high speed all the time. Its always the same battles. I like about Q3 that there are slow and fast battles in a good balance.

Except in 1999 nobody was playing QW in the super fast style they play it now. So that theory is coming from a place of your personal elitism rather than being based in reality.

This game is not played any faster if not even played slower than Q3. This is due to the higher possible speed which makes fights more random which makes pros want to avoid them. Dirtbox even hides in a spot on dm2 and spams rockets.

Bunny hopping there is mostly used to get around the map quick. Bunny hopping makes it easier to move around the map.

I dont know what you play as your main game, but if it is QW you can come to QL and play some games there. I bet you will lose most of the fights there because in QW you dont learn proper fighting. In QW you learn shaking your hands nervously. There is no clean shafting, there are no clean rockets, there is not even a rail.

Compared to Q3 the fights in QW are shorter and less interesting, less deep. You do not see this aim skill. There is not even a real fight. They spam their stuff while the crosshair is not even close to the opponent and suddenly the other dies.

You need to understand, faster than Q3 is not more hardcore, its less, its too much speed so that it decreases skill again. Go one way or the other from Q3 and you will decrease skill. QW is less hardcore sry mate.

Imagine increasing the speed further on? What will happen? Players will not be able to handle it appropriately which is why the desperately will want to decrease the speed the game is played to gain control. But still it is a high speed game which is why your plays still have to be fast which still will not make them more controlled. It will just be a random mess.

I'm sorry what?? Everything about that match is faster than anything in Q3/QL. Rail, lack of air control, ADAD peeking from cover as 'taktiks', this was as all intentionally put in Q3 so those couldn't cope with the original quake's speed and skillcap could hop on, and that's exactly what happened. Those who kept getting stomped after years of praccing went for Q3, those who were good at QW kept playing QW and couldn't care less about the new nerfquake. Fyi: the 'dilemma of vets stomping everyone thus hurting player numbers' was the talk of the town back than when they were coming out with Q3, same as now with QC, that should give you a hint.

None of those play anymore. Watch some dag or griffin, point out where they are shaking anything. Dag was something like taking best parts of aimbot like guys as clawz and the steel nerves of rapha in one player but with several times higher skill. In Q3/QC the big deal is hitting some with rail, a hitscan weapon, in a bad angle, flick, or midair. Players like dag in QW were hitting the nmy midair with projectile, rockets, multiple times, sometimes 3-4 times continuously, while both of them were moving twice as fast as anytihng in Q3/QC. There is just no comparison.

Yeah, nice one. I remember watching that video back when I started playing ql. After the autohop patch there are many more new tricks that are very useful but nobody knows about them, not even pros since toxicity wasnt really played much in tournaments in late ql. I thought about uploading the part 2 video with all new tricks.
