Zoot isn't much better by now either. I understand he is a poor student and all, but his shilling for QC is becoming super cringey and damaging to even the remains of the community. Nowadays he just bans people who point out obvious problems like crap hitreg happening or abundance of proven cheaters in tourneys, and trashtalks pros if they are critical of QC. Last time around we suddenly found out from him that cypher isn't that good at all, even technically, and a really bad teamplayer which all somehow became new knowledge to zoot after cypher trashed QC on his stream several times. Before that he was a god of course. Sooo fkn lame. In the middle of ESWC he spew some jibberish about how this round system duel is the real thing, so much better than having a timelimit because he saw all kinds of gameplay coming from it, from tactical to aggressive.... face-fkn-palm.

Agent vs Rapha was a great series, probably the most enjoyable QC duel Ive ever seen. Not sure if that down to the players playing styles.

That tribolt plusback on ztn nearly made me shut the stream off.

I agree that the tribolt spamming is hella lame, but on the other sidei it was very interesting to watch rapha try many different things to overcome it.

And to be fair, you cant really call it spamming judghing by how accurate and successfull agents shots with it are. How, tho? How was he so good with it? Is it just him constantly reading Rapha, or did he figure out how to use the sound queues in this games like that?

actually, maybe the best tourney qc ever had, close to the dreamhacks in the golden age of ql with all the big names attending - cant think of anyone who's missing now.

well, could have been strenx, but hes nothing in qc, same as evil.

organization is on top, no huge delays and tech issues. id should delegate qcon to pgl or learn from it.

the casters are okayish, ofc, would prefer joe and 2gd any day of the week, but they're definetly not in the roaster. we should keep in mind that they're focusing on the widest audience, to make the ongoing games understandable and pleasant to anyone.


the only improvment i could think of is
- inviting players to cast, they know more about whats going on and they're funnier and not restricted by these "pro casting" bullshit - remember casting with avek, calipt, this beefy guy i forgot the name of and obviosly shane,
- do not comment at all (at least 50% of the time) when its 2v2 and give us the pleasure to hear in-game comms of players. it raises the joy to the another lvl, all that intensity and emotions, you really feel urself inside the game.
- let the viewers vote between the upcoming matches.

Ignoring the abomination that is quake champions in itself, those casters are the worst of any event ever, they're beyond useless, they're annoying and confused.

Also the first day there was constant music playing over the games, or uneven sound levels between two players. Far from lacking technical issues, as usual.

And after all... imagine the big esport games judging the events positively by lack of issues. It never happenes, because it's a very rare occurrence in other games. In quake events, it's the norm.

Horrible nasal voice with flat tone (he sounds like he's always drunk and/or cold), always just saying what everyone is seeing with simply a couple seconds delay, zero insight, screams too much for nothing, cringeful attempts at jokes in tense moments, etc

It doesnt mean that this is the best tourney ever and a crown to all esports, it means that and only that qc haven't seen better. And the reason is - really big competition, gathering all decent players except oceania and the lack of tech issues, yes, you're right, due to modest quake standards.

Let me preface this rant by saying that I'm just pissed off because in part this random "flee"guy was so bad and cringey at today's initial panel that he made me miss a cooller final, whereas in first place I got into regularly watching and playing duel in QL because of how good 2gd was as a caster.

Having said that, what you said is true. At this point I can't stand the flee's, the jkaplan's and the other new casters that clearly got there merely by networking; by being pals of somebody. Some have zero clue about what they are talking about (kaplan), others clearly have zero casting talent (flee is beyond horrible as a caster), others have zero casting experience (being a good streamer =/ being a good caster. We could tell from how badly Spud performed at Quakecon). They are a waste of QC's marketing budget and they are not promoting the game properly.

Six months ago most of the new casters used this year had never touched Quake before, as you can see by how they play the game and the fact nobody knew them, yet for some reason they get flown and paid to cast now. And it's not like they are popular people so that they could help promote the event, because their own streams never have more than 150 viewers. It's just networking.

And zoot deserves his own paragraph. He knows how to play and he's not a horrible caster like the newer ones, but I think he stalled. He can be better than that but he isn't. Because he is better at it than the rest I'm going to be more critical: in this year's events zoot has only resorted to only describing what's on the screen and ask generic questions, with a nasal untrained voice, and then faking emotion in a cringey way. I mean dude you are a professional now and nowadays you are the voice of Quake, so at least learn to breathe properly.

A shame really, because back in our days casters used to be amazing. 2gd, joe, ddk, zsx, tosspot, wheat in a good day: they all are 10 times the casters we have today.

So, can't we replace these current guys? I mean those names moved on to bigger projects, as successful people do. But still, jehar+mak >>> zoot+kaplan+flee+random friend of theirs, and probably the former cost less to have. Or at least keep zoot and drop the rest that are so bad they are straight up hurting the chances of this hobby of ours still existing in the future.

Flee and Zoot are doing a good job imho., they are knowledgeable about the game and can commentate, the others have more casting talent, but not so much game knowledge. That is why they are having these caster pairs, a more knowledgeable person zoot/flee and a person with more casting talent. The only guy I dont like is this kaplan guy, he is a b it offensive sometimes imho., and he doesnt really seem to like Quake, he needs to change his attitude a bit. Anyway, its hard to get casters who are a lso knowledgeable about the game ... I think the casters did a pretty good job, and adding in the production quality of this whole event, the coverage was absolutely great, and you really cant ask for more. I dabbled in into SFIV or PUBG or Hearthstone coverages sometimes for the lols, and cant remember any casters of these events that were better than our QC casters at least ingame, outside game there might be room for improvement with their panels/interviews, etc., but personally I just care for the game :-)

Not really. Seems like a straw-man argument. People want a good Quake game. QC is objectively NOT it. People want a Quake-themed arena game that's skill-based, balanced, runs smooth, customizable, and so on. Q3A already had that. Of course many improvements can and should be made(hence community mods for example), but there's no need to try reinvent the wheel.

QL also had it, BUT there was a) lack of server capacity at release and a lack of funding in general b) horrible business model of attempting to run some ads, which didn't do shit c) and also general mismanagement of the project and neglect from devs.
Those are the main reasons causing the slow decline and fall of QL, even though it had incredible potential and was initially very popular just like Q3 was.

But in reality, of course, they all play QC every damn day.

I do? Not really. I had QC beta key, never installed the game, simply due to lack of interest.
I stated openly in the past that I would have been fine with QC succeeding, however, based on all the facts, it wasn't difficult to predict that the opposite would happen. And here we are.

Personally I just want a game without instafragging and invincibility abilities. Is that too much to ask?

In QC's history so far most characters have practically had that issue:
- Ranger. And it's actually easy to straight up telefrag, or if failing still deals a ton of damage.
- Clutch, especially until a few months ago. Invincible, fastest character and with largest stack. Horrible game design concept.
- DK. Practically telefrags.
- Nyx. Although rare she can still telefrag.
- BJ, before his ability nerf that took forever to be done.
- Keel. Everyone plays him like getting near the opponent and pressing F multiple times until fragging.
His ability is not used as a grenade launcher, which was the developer's intention when making the character.
- Doom, last year with the SSG + ability combo.
- Strogg, until a month ago his ability was combo-able.
- Galena. Stockpiling totems is just not-Quake.
- Scalebearer in FFA.

And BTW a ton of people in this site rarely to never play QC, myself included.You can see it yourself here: nobody in the biggest community-driven Quake site in the world even bothered making a thread for one of the four majors of the year. And I only try the new gametypes and characters hoping one day the game becomes fun but that's it: probably many here do the same.

raisy and clawz are definetly extremly skilled top players, but at times both of them make mistakes that not even k1llsen could think of

Great matches, too bad low quality sound engine and abilities destroyed the game completely. There were so many situations where pros got caught just because they couldnt hear their opponenet jump behind them or so. You can even see how players react when they got hit with active ability or so...no one likes them, but they keep on grinding just because of money.

Great tournament, as a big QC fan I really had a very enjoyable weekend. The tournament was stacked with so many QC legends. The only thing I didn't like that much are the abilities of Ranger (direorbb instakill(s) and the DeathKnight fireball instakill(s). Loved the production, casters were mostly also pretty good (not all of them). Next Dreamhack winter, hope to see a better preparation of Cypher.


For all the QC haters, I am honest about this game and the tournament. Didn't play QL since CBT1 and never missed it.

Cypher looked like he drank whole night and than he wanted to play on high level...

Yeah, like, really good. I blame this on pgl not fucking their production and schedule - everything was as smooth as could be, while these delays and restarts on qcon always tend to losing thousands of viewers and leave a bad taste of crippled game (crippled already as it is!).

From what i heard from players (agent, for example), they liked pgl A LOT and favor pgl among all other qc -tourneys

And the playing format was great, left no sense of injustice, while we always had these afterwards when somebody's coming from a losing bracket to grandfinal or was eliminated in a bo1 or else. This was ideal, to my taste. Maybe seeding could have been a little more balanced.

watched the finals and they were boring. most of the fights in qc are simply meaningless. one protects heavy the other mega. which spawn at the same time... lol about that. so both collect their item, equal amount of stack. both too smart to be trapped in a stupid fight. stalemate situation. until something random happens and one wins. this game is a joke isnt it?
