I agree with the general wisdom that this is a polarized fight, that whoever wins is likely to dominate. With that said who the fuck knows he might be coked out of his mind, but both fighters seem good these last days, only conor is more used to this kind of media craziness and there's a lot of bad blood and assume that affects conor's opponents more. His resume is better and his mentality is better so I'm going with that, and even if McGregor gets mauled round one, he might have a shot once stood up round two.

I've really enjoyed both of these fighters since they came to the UFC, this is a bit of a dream matchup so I'm really hyped. And the rest of the card is great too!

Conor got compacted and put into a wheelchair and Khabib made it look easy. Still a shame it ended the way it did but Conor is certainly no victim in this.

But to be fair, Conor and his side for the most part does know when it's a part of the show and when it isn't, bar the bus incident, whereas Khabib and his side just doesn't.

Whereas Khabib did not assault Conor afterwards for the things he said but assaulted a guy in Conor's corner that was shouting stuff during the match. You know, the shit talking that happens in every sport in every match in order to psych somebody, that begins during the match and ends with the match. It's just stupid to get pissed off by that because everyone knows it's a part of the game.

Why bar the bus incident? He doubled down on it and had no remorse for it.

- Was illegally grabbing the cage, and Khabib's shorts, also threw an illegal blow without the referee calling it.
- Was also the first person to assault Khabibs team after his loss in 229

Khabib
- Climbs over octagon and throws a flying hammer fist at Conor's teammate for talking shit.

I mean of course Conor is at fault for the bus incident. He deserves the blame there and should maybe face jail time for it. But if you look at the other things, they are all part of every match and part of the show.

During every match of MMA, soccer, etc. there's serious insults and even touching that crosses all limits. In every match there's illegal moves happening whenever possible. It's just that most viewers don't notice but fighters know they are a part of the game, except that Khabib snapped in this instance. And then McGregor is a bit of a showman too, which is the reason why his matches sell and everybody directly or indirectly involved makes a living off those.

The thing is what Khabib and his team did is assault, a serious crime in the US, just like Conor did. Both are to blame and both sides should be banned from entering the country again, though probably not going to happen because they are millionaires. But the thing is though because Khabib did it during the event he will probably be suspended for a year by the athletic commission, and with that the UFC will have to strip him of his title.

Too bad really. Khabib dominated McGregor from start to finish and nobody is talking about that, because of Khabib's own fault.

Khabib didn't throw a single punch. Conor on the other hand was hitting a guy who wasn't not even near his team mates, hence why he got jumped after.

I watched several camera angles of this and clearly everything was calm (i think) until the moment Khabib jumped from the cage which was the start of the tussle. At this point Conor is still sitting on the ground and has not yet gotten up from the tap out.

The guy Khabib went after (Dillon) also was ready to fight - as the security quickly grabbed Khabib and then more security needed to hold Dillan for the next couple minutes as he wanted to make his way into the cage - where another guy in red shirt has started swinging on Conor. Ontop of this there is probably another 6-7 guys around who are trying to get in the cage or pushing/punching around the outside of the cage so there is no point trying to figure exactly what happend at this time.

Now this Dillon guy was probably talking a lot of shit from the side at Khabib during the whole fight so khabib has just snapped and jumped at him - or maybe khabib has seen something else going on.

Im glad Khabib won this just due to how much shit Conor was talking in interviews upto the fight. It was getting a little nasty so Im not suprised Khabib had finally snapped like he did.

Also there is a small clip taken at edge of cage on youtube from the end of one of the rounds im not sure which round but mid fight Conor says to Khabib "its only business" and Khabib does a double take and responds "yea, guess so"

Well, you can never count Tony Ferguson out. The guy is a monster, healed a career ending injury in 4 months, can't be stopped, and being on the ground with him is the last thing you'd want. His ju jitsu could be a lethal threat for any grappler.

There's also Kevin Lee, who's as big as KAbib, almost as good as a wrestler but has good hands and excellent power. He just needs to fix some holes and not get staph infections, and he could pull the upset.

Did a rough writeup of this situation, some of you may be interested I suppose.

Mcgregor used to be more fun and entertaining. Very heavy on the research and often personal, but mostly fun. Then, especially in the Rafael Dos Anjos fight, he started going a little darker. It was still fun, but it felt more like an attack. That seems to have only intensified since then.

At some point it made sense for Mcgregor to fight Khabib, even though and it was a daring fight for him to try given the styles and what everyone kept saying about wrestlers (that he's weak against them and that the best wrestler he fought was on 2 weeks notice or so). Conor's teammate Artem Lobov made some comments about Khabib. He didn't appreciate it; him and several of his teammates flipped out and cornered Lobov; they might have slapped him a little, but it was more of a threat than a physical altercation kind of situation. Mcgregor, quite quickly after the fight with Mayweather, while it's looking like he's going to have a fight with Khabib quite soon and fleece the UFC out of their money given his heightened fame, instead hops onto a plane, gets allowed into the NY UFC event by some press friend (who still semingly works there!) where Khabib is going to fight for the title which Mcgregor would vacate due to not defending it quickly enough. The bus incident happens. Things cool down, as McGregor faces legal issues and some fighters sue him. Khabib's opponent has unrelated health issues, drops out, instead Khabib fights an okay but not top10 fighter for the belt, wins it.

After some time Mcgregor vs Khabib is announced and the rhetoric starts spilling in. In all the press, the UFC, despite having pretended to be outraged at Mcgregor team's actions, uses the dolly thrown at bus footage heavily for promotion, in typical fashion. Mcgregor keeps insulting Khabib, calling him a rat, telling some stories about his father or grandfather was it, insinuating that his manager might have been involved in 9/11 (it's an interesting insinuation that Mcgregor AFAIK hasn't been sued on; media people seem to be interested in what sort of research this is based on), calls Khabib a traitor to his country due to attacking Lobov IIRC, keeps poking Khabib's Dagestani antagonism with Russia and Putin, even chills with Putin during the world cup and bullies Khabib about it. Keeps insulting Khabib's ethnicity in various ways, calls him backwards. Also gets sponsorship with the UFC due to his clout where his brand of whiskey is on the canvas for the fight - the fight that he and Khabib will fight in. Fight against devout abstinent muslim Khabib. Khabib does mention this, of course, even flaming a journalist who bring it up a bit. Conor also interrupts Khabib even more heavily than he has for anyone during the press converences.

In the last press conference, Conor is late, once again, and Khabib notes that he has a tight schedule and will answer some questions and then leave after some time. And so he does, 15 min into the conference or so, and Mcgregor only arrives 15 minutes after that. Khabib promises to show up to the weighins right as the time slot for them starts tomorrow, sharp, and he does. This is to show his professionalism and a "doing his own thing" sort of determination that goes against his previous issues with showing up to fights - he's had huge issues with weightcuts and with injuries before, and that's what kept him away from the title for a long while previously, despite his ongoing twenty-something-0 record.

Many fans and journalists note this darker antagonism, with the usual stupid "who is in who's head" arguments turning against Conor somewhat.

Khabib doesn't react well to all this. His nominally stoic demeanour changes somewhat, and he comes up with his own lines to insult Mcgregor quite personally. Many people also notice what western audiences hadn't noticed - that Khabib isn't as well liked in Russia as many had thought. Khabib has a spat with Russian artist who gets their event in Dagestan cancelled due to threats, where Khabib insults him needlessly in quite grave terms (I think a term was used which means "man made into a *woman* in prison, as in ownership by another prisoner", and seems to not look for a more peaceful resolution when the singer gracefully offers it. I didn't read the original sources on this and I can barely read russian so this is only a very rough retelling, but point of the matter is that seems like there's a reason for many Russians to dislike Khabib beyond the ethnicity, and that Khabib is far from the graceful stoic that some in the west assumed he is.

After the UFC fight, as you all know, this scrap happens, where Khabib attacks Dillon Danis - great BJJ fighter and Mcgregor's practice partner - hopping out of the cage to do so, and a fight breaks out between Khabib's team and Mcgregor's team, with some of Khabib's team attacking Mcgregor as he's still recovering from the fight.. You know the details I guess.

Dana White refuses to give the belt to Khabib there in the cage; he says it's not safe, people will throw shit into the cage. I don't know if this would have been the case but there seems to be good reason to believe this. Khabib is announced as the winner only after being escorted.

Khabib shows up to the post-fight press conference to talk for 3 minutes. He says Putin called him to congratulate him on his win. He says sorry to the commission, vegas, etc, for all of 30 seconds, but spends most of the time blaming Mcgregor, saying that people are being unfair to him compared to what they were to Mcgregor and justifying his actions by talking about Mcgregor's insults and actions. There's a heavy implication that Mcgregor's insults (in particular ones related to country and religion) are somehow justification for the violence, in the usual "I had to fight for my honor" sense. As a lighthearted note, he notes that his father is going to smesh him. Says sorry again, repeats that he's champion, that Putin called to congratulate him despite the alleged antagonism, and walks out.

Some of his teammates are arrested; they are let go once Mcgregor's team refuses to press charges.

There is some truth in his callout to the MMA word hypocrisy; Mcgregor has participated in more violent acts even before this Khabib saga and has been very hateful during this buildup. The UFC tolerated that because he's their cashcow, and the heavily corrupt commissions (which should really be abolished) did let him off easy at some points, though not always. Khabib's fight purse is being held and it's unclear if the commissions won't suspend him, possibly triggering a stripping of the title which Dana does not exclude as a possibility. Some fans obviously repeat whatever bullshit Mcgregor has said. At the same time, the serious MMA journalists generally noted all this, did criticize Mcgregor and so did many fans. Khabib very easily could have played to them and walked out the clear victor, the stoic unphased champion. No matter how mad he was, he just had to lift the belt and proclaim himself king. Now, he sank to Mcgregor's level and ruined his own image, and people just aren't talking about his completely dominant win as much as they would have. A rematch is likely, but only if the consequences that Khabib faces aren't too severe.

Contrary to popular belief this isn't at all good in the UFC; delaying any Mcgregor fights loses them millions upon millions, they've always had a chip on their shoulder about their image and they need to sign deals with various companies quite often -- most recently with ESPN -- which are made significantly harder by this sort of stupidity. So yeah, they use it, but they are also harmed by it. What a disgrace this was, really.
