no, there is no point, you can have full control if you code your own database class, and do everything phpmyadmin can do if you like

all the database functions in the mainfile.php lead to the hard coded functions in a core file class

so u dont use pdo and dont know why you should.

i dont use PDO, and look at the functions and think wow who cares, its a global object, the same as classes

if there is a difference between PDO and classes memory use, its PHP's problem not the user, read only should be set when creating the class object ( in, store type = NULL writable [ TRUE read only] );

the 2 main things that came from it anyway is hassle free migration, and double layer security for user accounts, but the null does it batter, and encrypts the cookie data, and stores it so nobody with access to the cookie can use only base64, you need the serverside key to decrypt it

anyone who steals your cookie and uses base64 on the cookie string, will then see a 512bit encrypted string, instead of the cookie array for all site details that are in use
