Every time I play QC I'm reminded of the technical marvel that this game is. It literally runs perfectly at all times, the netcode is smooth and seamless and never fails, the hit reg is pixel perfect even at the worst of ping and highest of movement speeds. The engineers and programmers are truly God's Gift to the gaming industry, surely with ability prowess as masterful as them they should be working on secret government projects. Anyway back to the game, the balance is always perfect, the champions and weapons come together to give you a myriad of perfectly equal yet skillful combinations so you always can meet the challenges ahead. All combat interactions are so viscerally satisfying so much so that Im compelled to spend thousands of dollars on the lootboxes which heavily reward the consumer at all times.

we need a short writeup how he was pretending to be anywhere near competent while working on ql. all the main things the community asked for were ignored by him because it was all over his head. . i bet he was reporting to the higher ups that all is going good, "this month im getting them stripes on nades, a feature everyone has been asking for since forever"... willits is for sure complicit in this since moron pyle came to id as his personal dicksucker.
then we get a petiton going get it signed by everyone and send it to management.
Not sure what my favourite part of QL development history was...
...trying to choose between the time when instead of actually working on QL syncerror just spent countless workhours designing a new CTF map nobody asked for (the absurdity of a Quake community's only source of maps being one of the game devs)...
... or when Sponge literally removed a fully functioning Duel Detective and Leaderboards and then said "too hard to implement, wouldn't work in QL" when asked why QL doesn't have matchmaking or leaderboards.
Some of Sponge's quotes were fucking gold. Then ofc there's the whole loadout item timer thing... and calling one patch an "apology update"... :bigth0nk:
The absolute embodiment of procrastination and incompetence in human form.
remember when nemecels autism was flaring up when he noticed that you cant see RA on cpm4a from a certain angle using simpleitems but can see it with normal items?
syncerror jumped on that like it was the most important thing, even tho noone cared for 10 years and everyone knows its allways some kind of trade off when you change these settings. "make an item one unit taller, shit, i can do this.. finaly theyre asking me something i can actually do!"
This is a satisfactory answer for 90% of the QC reddit fanboys who have temporarily taken their hands off each others cocks to applaud syncerror for his insightful dev commentary.
One of the great things about instagib is it’s a single shot, a single kill. Everybody can get frags. Players don’t mind getting killed. What they mind is not getting frags. They want to get their kills. And one of the fun things about Quake Champions is that we have active abilities for all the champions. On its surface, you may say, “Well, that’s not going to be fair [in instagib].” Galena can throw out a totem and it can kill somebody. Keel can throw a grenade and it can kill somebody. But that’s actually the really fun part of it. We’ve played instagib without abilities and it wasn’t as much fun. You have these abilities that really add a lot of fun, over the top excitement to a really simple game mode. You spawn in, you get the rail, you run around and shoot. The funniest part is that nothing he and Timmy do (or don't) or say will ever have any consequence whatsoever.
If people ain't playing the game after all the moneys invested and the months passed, "it's nobody's fault but of those meanies on the internet, meow!"
Or alternatively, "arena fps can't be popular today", "the fact that it's a technical mess with more queue times than a grocery store has nothing to do with it, meow"
Timmy and Adam Pyle are heroes and hard workers for bethesda, if the game is free falling its only esr's fault.
In fairness, I don't see how those two are to blame for the tech issues, there would have been tech guys at id/beth who looked at the engine and said, "that will work" before they signed with Saber.
And who has claimed that little timmy and pyle are programmers? They're not, they suck at that. They also suck at everything else they do, that's the problem.
It's not a bad game, it can actually feel quite good and has a lot of potential.
It should've been however far far far far more polished when it was first introduced, there's no excuse for a game in 2018 being this unresponsive, laggy, buggy and broken.
Way to justify a salary by doing the easiest stuff
This is it, isnt it. Making sweeping changes to values to show they're doing something. Where are the MAPS? where is CTF?! Why is performance decreasing with every patch? Where are the community features? Clan tags???? A sound engine that works???? A NETCODE THAT WORKS??????????
Nope, all we get is [ARBITRARILY TURNING KNOBS MAKING IT LOOK LIKE WE'RE DOING SOMETHING]
The thing is, if they actually allowed the community to create maps and mods they wouldn't be under so much pressure to create new maps and mods themselves and take some of the steam off. But nah, let's take ages to release 1 remake of a map no one wants to play like the longest yard.
If they werent they would of used IDtech what already has all these features (and no excuse IDtech6 was not ready - some iteration of IDtech has been ready for the last 20 years)
QC uses what appears to be a load of 3rd party middle ware stuff like autodesk beast, meaning, they don't actually own a lot of the software which makes the game possible to run outside of their own dev pipeline.
They should have just made this game on idtech 6 with snap map.
Added an update inside doom to teleport to quake champs, add a payment button, and they literally would have gotten a load of players and money.
iirc, back in quakelive times the reasoning was something like "we can't control the quality of community content so we don't want it in our game" which would be fair if they had enough resources to create content themselves...
cant charge money for content they didnt create and when the content people will create for free will be definitely better then their content, again they lose out on money. they could make more money in the end by selling the platform and letting people create on their own, but they are stupid and greedy.
You don't pay money for their new maps, so what's the difference?
They can still sell the game with their own maps while people create their own custom maps. They wouldn't lose money as you'd still have to buy the game to play on the community maps.
well yea now that the game is out and everyone sees how shit it is they cant sell you anything. you can be sure they had a plan how they will sell you every new champion, map, skin....
Yeah. People in slipgate constistenlty ignore the "defend the slipgate" part and just stroll around head hunting.
I often see players ignoring armors, too. And those people are supposed to care about a flag somewhere?
They'd keep playing their FFA in every mode like they always do. QC attracts the tardest of the tards.
Most of the time you don't get the impression the enemy you're firing at is controlled by an actual human being. You recognize the bots because they're actually less pants-on-head aggressive than the average player.
I don't think people expect CTF to increase the playerbase, but they expect it to slow down the decrease of players (as in a higher player retention than now).
To be fair a classic objective-based mod that is not sacrifice or slipgate can actually work pretty well.
it's early access thats simply not how programming works, nor how game design and development roadmaps are laid out, the most competent dev in the world cant just create a perfectly running game on first attempt and the trend in QC's performance has definitely been upward
