9/10 from me, love that 80s VHS feeling, music is great, frags are mostly impressive, only thing thats missing for me is frag messages. Great job anyways.
I like the Miami Vice/ Tron 80s vibe. Im conitioned to expect a frag message so thats annoying me a bit. You could have designed an 80s style message e.g. Not all the frags are movie worthy but its solid nevertheless. 8/10
Yea, not using a frag message was a first for me. I tried out a lot of different styles/fonts for frag messages and nothing made me happy. Ultimately, all frag messages need to have a drop shadow or outline so they're visible in all situations -- like against the sky, over explosions, or light-colored backgrounds -- and no combination of these things gave me enough of the 80s vibe I was going for. I decided to ditch the frag message and just emphasize the in-game kill sounds to take the place of the frag message.
Glad you got the reference! I changed the movie's title 3 or 4 times and wasn't happy with it at all. Then I was randomly reminded of this classic grindhouse movie and decided to adapt it for my 80's style movie.
The music was assrapingly loud in comparison to the ingame audio, irrespective of the ingame audio, it was roaring and harsh to listen to (perhaps thats just a characteristic of the genre, I don't indulge in futuresynth enough).
There weren't many fun transitions, often it would cut from one frag to another, which can be fatiguing. I feel like there were some moments where some clever transitions could have been used, like with the tele-abuse at 2:17ish or 1:15. That kinda stuff is entirely up to you, perhaps I'm being a bit critical in that regard.
The nametags in the bottom left could have benefited from some additional padding from the corners, give some respect to your typography and let them breath a bit.
Some frags could have been presented a lot better, specifically stuff like the rocket at 0:57 and the rail shots at 1:24, 2:22, and 2:55. But I did enjoy the way some were shown, like 3:14. Perhaps in the future you could experiment with more thirdperson angles or something?
Well its not, you can create custom physics rulesets. There already are QL & QW rulesets out there (as close as can be anyway) but good luck finding anyone to play those with.
