David actually fragged me once on dm1? Shameful ...

Well that's the thing, isn't it ...

I rarely got beat on dm1 in the last few years, so when I do I usually remember their name, which leads to a few possibilities:

1. It's a very old demo, so who knows the circumstances behind it?
2. I could have been drunk. I used to play drunk a lot, especially a few years ago.
3. It's simply not me. Probably someone using my name to discredit me, which has happened a number of times before. I am vilified in Q2, and I was harassed and pressured constantly, which is why I recently gave it up. The Quake 2 community is extremely toxic these days. David is a complete clown too, and really not as good as some people like to preach.

So who knows.

This is what I hear:
I'm only actually great at q2dm1, so that's the only map I care about. I don't even try on other maps even in tournaments.
I don't record or post demos of the games I've played, so my perception of them and the quality of my actual performance is distorted.
It's a very old demo, so it could have been back when I lost all the time.
I could have been drunk or using one of a hundred other excuses... because if I actually was drunk I wouldn't have been using one of my two primary aliases... or even started to play a match against one of the top ranked players in the world.
It's simply not me... because I've been such a bastard and making such exaggerated claims about my skill level for so long, that I am one of the very few players who almost everyone hates in the game... and so some people have even aliased as me.

A player of your skill level shouldn't be sensitive to 10 seconds in a frag movie. You should let your skill and your tournament history speak for itself. Everyone who knows your name knows exactly how good you are. Who are you showboating for? Who are you trying to convince? Every single person who ever played this game, even the top 3 players in the world - Damiah, Purri, and David, has died from bad spawns, poor decisions, great play by an opponent, or unfortunate circumstances. You could make a frag movie of ANY player ever where they are the victim. Besides, it is a compliment to be considered good enough to be a victim in a frag movie... otherwise, there is no glory in the victory.

For calling out David's bullshit?

Let me sum it up for you ...

- Do you think it's a coincidence that I was the first frag in the video?
- Do you even realise that the actual frag wasn't even a good frag? It wasn't even close to frag movie material. It was a few spawn frags which are extremely rare in Q2 with the modern spawncode. So it wasn't good frags it was simply luck.
- Do you think it's a coincidence that David happened to be using a fake name in that moment? Why do you think that is?
- Don't you think it's odd that I don't remember playing that game? Who knows the circumstances behind it?

The truth is David doesn't like me, and I don't particularly like him. He would also never play against me without using a fake name or some kind of advantage, because he's afraid of the outcome: me totally crushing him.

Make your own movie and show the world how you crush him. Otherwise find it kind of funny that your enemies put energy into you by putting you into a movie. That shows that they really appreciate you. Also think about the possibility that it is just a random circumstance. In this case maybe just laugh about how things can work out unintentionally.

I for myself found the beginning with the respawn frags dull because i know it is just pure luck and does show a real flaw in the game. 15 years ago it would have been kind if funny. Now it is not because seen it a 1000 times in different games already.

I think you should go back to my original post and read it again. I'm not assertively trying to make excuses, I'm simply responding to other's comments.

I'm also pointing out that David is not only a petty ass hole but also a fraud. He's the type of person who makes frag movies like this to show off his "one time win or frag" because it's the only way he can get leverage. I'm not sad enough to sit making frag movies for self gratification or purposely mock others; only a horrible, pernicious person would go out of their way to do that. I'd rather go onto a server and show people in real time that what I do isn't some kind of fluke or luck. I'm not that guy who makes frag movies or holds onto that one demo when I once won someone above my weight. Not to mention I don't play Q2 anymore.

I'm simply calling out his bullshit. If you think I'm pathetic or funny or some kind of troll because of that then you're probably jaded or fundamentally as much of an ass hole as David.

Nah, Q2s spawn system is just very different to other Quake iterations afaik. Somebody knowledgable give a tl; dr about it?

Judging by https://github.com/id-Software/Quake-2/blob/m...p_client.c SelectDeathmatchSpawnPoint() and related functions, the logic is:

- if dmflags is set to "spawn farthest", it will choose the spawn point that is furthest away from any player. So if there is a player stood right by each of the spawn points except one, then it'll pick the one where there isn't a player there. Note however that it measures distance in simple geometric terms, not caring about whether there are walls in between / what the actual route/line of sight to that spawn point is.

- if dmflags isn't set to spawn farthest, then it will pick a random spawn point - except it will exclude from the selection the two spawn points which are closest to a player.

The point is selected at the time the player respawns not when they were killed, so there may be advantages to quickly moving position after killing someone to force the spawn to where you would prefer.

Obviously mods may have changed this logic, and I don't remember whether any of the popular mods do change this.

What's up with that weird demo lag effect on everyone's q2 demos? All these awesome power flick rails look like they were done in slow-motion, and the chaingun tracking looks smoothed out and robotic.
